I had made a whirlwind trip to catch the opening 2011 World Cup Game between Bangladesh and India in Dhaka.
I drove around the city one day, snapping a few pictures here and there. This is just a small taste of wht Dhaka is looking like and does not do complete justice if you do not see her at night resplendent in all her twinkling lights and decorations.
To truly feel feel the spirit, passion and excitement you had to be there.
i see this everyday coming from the university!..indeed Dhaka's spirit, passion and now the lights are wonderful..and outside the stadium there so many people still come to watch the atmosphere at the stadium..come in the night time everybody..the 2no to 11no road and 2no to 10no road(roads of the stadium) is sparkling with lights..its a wonderful site
The difference between my visit from January 2011 to this one in February 2011 was palpable. Everything seemed better - even the traffic (except for when the PM is going about her business). It looked like some drivers were actually staying in their own lane and the amount of honking has diminished. Even during my last trip, a common use for honking and light flashing was to let the guy in front of you know that the light is about to change and/or the policeman will let us through. Every 50 car waiting at the stop will let every other car know of this momentous occasion. The futility of it all seems to be finally dawning on everyone. Traffic does move better of you follow the rules.
