Default Overseas opportunities for Bangladeshi Cricketers

Why Banladeshi players are not hired to play in overseas leagues? Are they not good enough? They should at least be playing in minor counties and leagues which may be more competitive than NCL, Premier league and other domestic fixtures.

Is it the players choice or the club's choice? The question should be, why oversease clubs not giving opportunity to Bangladeshi Cricketers.

good question. I am sure we have a couple of players good enough for county duty- like Rafique, Ash and Masrafee.

I don't think they know our players that well. And so far the guys on the test team have not been consistent. How do you bring someone over for a season based on the performance so far? I think the England tour may be a turning point. We are going in with some positive news, and the exposure will allow county and other clubs to take a look at some of our players.

Well, Atapattu and co. were ruing over that only months ago in an interview with BBC.

Probably there is something else to the equation apart from exposure and performance.

our players are simply not consistent enough to play in any main first class competition in any test playing nation.

except for rafique, and maybe bashar.

Additinally, there is that rule in the county cricket that limits number of overseas players in the roster. I am not sure if there is something else (as illuded to by Chinaman) that determines that a players form the subcontinent will not be called unless it is a legend

I think they should go and play in the Leicestershire League. Which is one down from the county league. They would still gain a lot of experience.

English teams will chose an overseas player over local talent only if they are convinced that the overseas player is better than the local players. The overseas players need not be legends to play in minor league in England. They should be good enough to catch the eyes of the clubs.

What about the Australian premier club competition? (not state comp, which is way too high level for BD players).

I heard there was a BD player in teh Aussie club comp, but I can't remember .... Anyone know?

I agree that the upcoming tour of England should bring opportunities for some of BD players. I also think that BCB should be a little more proactive. In the 70s and early eighties Pakistan board actively lobbied for thier players to be included in the counties. I'm not sure but I think after Zaheer Abbas' inclusion there a was flood of Pakistanis into the counties. Indians, on the other hand concentrated more on thier domestic front and were a little late (later than Pakistan) hence they came into the scene later than Pakistan.

All we need is one players inclusion, rest will follow. I'm certain that some of our players are already good enough to play county cricket. A breakthrough is what is needed.

Actually they didn't play in any minor county. Those were local clubs, some of them run by people of Bangladeshi origin. A lot of them were just local tournaments similar to the one run by Bangladesh Cricket Assc. in New York.

Quality, performance and technique are important to play in the obverses club, however, our cricketers don't get enough exposure/publicity/connection to get into there. For example, a same level Indian IT professional will get priority over Bangladesh one. Even same level Paki professional will be selected rather than a BD person.

As a national we are lagging behind in communication.
