Default 4 day Tests, is it good for BD?

ICC chief David Morgan is thinking of 4 day tests. I believe it will greatly help Bangladesh. Here is the article, Cricinfo. What do you guys think?

Will help Bangladesh only to draw matches, not winning them....but at the moment it works...

Its a bad idea.

If they really want to change rules of TEST cricket, they should consider First Innings leader as the winner for a 5 day drawn match.

May be partial points but not a winner tag. Test is getting 20 wickets and making more runs than the opponents. Anything short of that is not a clearcut winner (there is some exception when 1st innings is declared).

Does anyone have a David Morgan's email address?

no it won't. we are still used to losing matches with in 3 maybe 3 n half days, and if matches do become 4 days, other teams will be scoring runs at a much faster rate, and so the way i see it, at the end of the day we'll be losing wickets like we always do, and giving away ridiculously large first innings lead.

Test rules should not be touched. Test match is a matter of application of abilities, not always scoring runs. A drawn match sometimes is more thrilling than one that produces a result. Winner based on first innings lead? No way!

It will help BD because of the concentration factor. The shorter the game, better is our concentration as most of our sccesses are in ODI. The carrot would be that if we can bat for more sessions we will be atleast be able to draw the match. This is a big motivation at the moment for us.

problem with your idea is that, you are making a big assumption, you are assuming that the game will change from 5 day to 4 days, but the way its played won't be changed. and that's completely wrong.

How could you go wrong if you play more sessions no matter how it is palyed. I did not say anything about how it will be played. That was your assumption.

This Morgan & Co. is killing the beautiful game of cricket. They have taken so many rubbish decisions one can't imagine.

If its a 4 day test match, we'd manage to lose within 2 days.
Our boys would keep their "rest and recreation" day intact. Make no mistake about that.

No matter how many days you are meant to play, you should always give yourself a two-day holiday.
Thats the team rule.

it should be great for us.. I am looking for da soonest implementation of this
*We would definitely draw more matches if not win.
*Opponents would not get more time to pile runs
*Test matches all together will be more aggressive becoz teams will look for results

Games change. Test cricket has changed a lot too. Its not like the 5 day game is what it was hundreds of years ago. We went from 8 balls per over to 6. We went from timeless tests to our modern five day game. However, a change like this should be studied and done slowly and ensured it goes off without a hitch. The future of the game depends upon it.

As for Bangladesh's effectiveness, it depends. As the game changes, a teams mentality changes, so we cannot know until it happens.

However, what needs to be done is to someone avoid draws. We want results. How this happens, I am not sure, but we need the teams to fight for a win til the last ball, regardless. I don't want a team to just slow down on day 2 to go for the draw. That is what really kills test matches.

To have a four day test, with Placid wickets in WI, Pak, SL, Ind; we are more like pushing for more draws rather than results. ICC only looks for revenue, what dumb way of running a sports organization. Soon to be doomed.
