Just saw this now on the BBC website with the headline 'Shaun Tait retires from sport due to emotional and physical exhaustion', no more details yet!

has a bit more info, it's possibly just a break as opposed to retirement. anyway it's a real shock and a bit tough for the aussie team, i'm pretty sure he was in the plans for up coming matches if not long term and that will now have to be re-evaluated.

The pressure of international games does takes it toll.
I hope this little break would do good for him, his team and the country as a whole.

Sometimes this little breaks helps to come back with a better self.

I hope he would not retire such an early age.
He is one of the few exciting pace prospect of tomorrow.

Am sure a couple of wickets in the perth test would have made him stay. Poor fella wanted to get his form back and was all over the place for Indias favor. I think he tried too much and wanted to bowl too quick, spraying the ball all over. Indians also played him pretty well, with the WACA not living upto its demons.

He is a very good bowler and hopefully he will come back soon.

I knew it was too good to be true, a pacer that is both very tall and 'solidly built' cant take constantly put out that much tension on the body.

his test match statistics were terrible, even by BD standards. given that he never played against the top side in the world, always had his batsmen (and it seems umpires) at his team's dispossal, his stats were quite poor.

of course he is a young player, i hope to see him come back strong and not follow trescothick to cricket's mental graveyard.

Just before Perth Aus-media were going crazy like ..
"Aussies to unleash hell to India--Tait is here"

and after the match we all saw who unleashed hell.

Hope he comes back soon,will miss him in ODi series.

lol....India brought two potentially bright careers to an end. Brad Hogg, who was supposed to take over spin after Shane Warne and Shaun Tait who was supposed to destroy the Indian batting lineup. One has taken voluntary retirement and the other is facing a similar fate with a possible replacement when the selectors meet next time.

The fact that most of the younger Australian players have not been exposed much to defeat is not helping. They are failing to cope with defeats and are breaking down. Not a good sign.

perhaps the team needs a change of culture. what steve waugh had started and ponting followed is a very macho regime. not all would cope. the chinks in the armour are visible..

I see cricket is a very demanding sport on the psychological level... after Trescothick nervous breakdown, Vermeulen losing control, Tait retirement for stress... now it's time for Lou Vincent depression:
