Good. Nearly a full strength team except Styris. But it's enough to test our boys and.....Siddons+Fountain.
BTW Oram is out due to injury too I presume?

New Zealand have a very strong squad. If yopu replace one of the lesser known batsman with Scott Styris, you would have their WC team possibly. Then again, their batsmen always collapse as well. Watling, Redmond, Ryder, Elliott all are worse batsmen than our top three. I really mean that. Their bowlers will however roll us under 270 every time and under 220 half the time.
NZ XI:
1. Brendan McCullum 2. BJ Watling 3.Ross Taylor 4. Aaron Redmond 5. Jesse Ryder 6. G Elliott 7. Dan Vettori (C) 8. Tuffey 9. Kyle Mills 10. N McCullum 11. Andy McKay
Possible Bangladesh XI:
1. Tamim Iqbal 2. Imrul Kayes 3. Zunaed Siddique 4,5. Jahurul Islam/Raqibul Hasan/Mohammed Ashraful 6. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk) 7. Shakib Al-Hasan 8. Mahmudullah Riyad 9. Mashrafee Mortaza(c) 10. Syed Rasel/Rubel Hossain 11. Shafiul Islam
Wonder how Naeem is? I don't see much point in taking Razzak. Rasel needs to be tried at 2-3 of the ODIs. Shakib needs to bat after all batsmen. Riyad has also lost form in batting and should bat at 8. There's only two positions available between Ash, Jahurul and Raqib. Raqib should probably get one of those positions for 4 games, Jahurul gets 3 games and Ash 3 games. If one of them does a big flop or one scores magnificently in one, the numbers might change but otherwise stick to this.
Really interested to see our fielding. I am hopeful.

People say Kane Williamson is a great talent, hasn't really kicked off at international level yet. I fear the BD series might just be his launch pad, hope Mash, Shak and others delay his arrival at the top level for another series.

LOL I afraid so, the kid is a great talent from what I've heard too. So need to watch out for him.
Frankly, I have zero hope as NZ is an excellent LOI side. But need to perform their guts out here, BD.
My XI (Out of possible candidates):
Assuming that Tamim won't be playing:
Jahurul Islam (Attacking player, can get some runs in the powerplay overs. LH/RH combination is an added adv)
Imrul Kayes
Rokibul Hasan (Consolidation in the middle overs)
Junaid Siddique (Consolidation, and play attacking Shots later on)
Mushfiqur Rahim
Bossman Shakib
Naeem Islam (Good slogger + decent enough bowler.)
Mashrafe Mortaza
Syed Rasel (His slow pace can be handy in slow pitches)
Abdur Razzak
Shafiul Islam (Better bowler than Rubel in slow tracks)

agree with u but I want Ryad instead of Naeem.
preparing for the WC we need Ryad to get some form,
Nayeem is less skilled than Ryad for sure.
But if Ryad fails in the first 3mtchs than i say bring Naeem in.thre must be a competition btwn these 2.
i hope the selectors wont put Ash ahead.

Probably not a good idea to change the places of Raqibul and Junaid. Junaid has been playing well at number 3, and Raqibul has always played number 4, so the I see no reason to switch them around. I'd also take Mahmudullah ahead of Naeem simply because he has played more significant knocks, and is a better bowler. The idea of using Jahurul as opener is a fair one, though if we're training him to be a middle-order batsman, he should probably stay there too. Maybe a back up opener could get a shot, like Nazimuddin.

I just wish we could have some spinner who can actually spin the ball instead of Razzak.

Our top order looks some what set its the lower middle order thats worrying me. We still haven't found someone who can kick it up a notch during the batting PP. Maybe we should put Jahirul up the order with Kayes, and have Nazim bat down the order like 6/7 and see what happens.

Not much will happen if they can't gather the courage of taking PP earlier than 45th over. Otherwise they will play in the air & gonna be caught as always.

About Riyadh, he's not good enough to bat @ the top order, and he can't slog to save his life. His bowling is not good enough to demand a place in the squad. I haven't seen Naeem much but the main issue BD faces this days is the last 35-50 overs which is they screw up badly. Need a big hitter there to solve that issue, and hence Naeem.
But yeah, maybe too late to make changes in the squad. Plus Riyadh can bowl better in subcontinent, so I may well give the benefit of doubt.

There's no such thing as a static batting order, players are shuffled around according to the situation. Raqibul should come in at number 3 because he can play the consolidation part well. Siddique scores mostly of boundaries and can play a well paced inning so he comes at No. 4.
And this is assuming Tamim is absent of course, there's no other option but play someone at that spot. So the best option IMO is Jahurul, he can play a well paced innings - maybe not long - but of good pace. That's why I said he might be the apt cnadidate for the spot if tamim is absent.
About Nazimuddin. don't know about the guy, but doesn't seem a great idea to suddenly include Nazimuddin as he's not even in the picture.

^ But you know what we had to wait a very very very very very long time to get a batsman at number 3 who we can count on to score some run. Siddique used to look horrible opening with tamim, then he was out for a while, and we had him come in at number 3, which was like a virtual opening position because we lose the first wicket way too early. Since he started batting at number 3, he looked much much better. Therefore lets not ruin his mojo, leave him alone.

They have a pretty good team. I say we should play this XI:
Nazim
Imrul
Junaid
Raqibul
Naeem
Mushfiq
Shakib
Mashrafe
Razzak
Rasel/Rubel
Shafiul

No. 3 is arguable the hardest and trickiest batting position. Maybe he's not good up against the new ball, hence the poor record as the opener. But what's wrong in getting him at 4? If anything. he's gonna just get better. Rokibul is a guy who puts a price on his wicket. No way you can expect him to go down at No. 4 and waste balls at a crucial phase.
While I understand your concerns, doesn't make any sense to play such a defensive player down the order.

Because by pushing him down to number 4, we have to change the position for Jahirul or Roqibul. And they both have looked decent in number 4. So why do experiment for no reason? We already did enough experiment. Just a few months before the world cup, we can't afford to shuffling around the order too much. They been playing in that position for quite some time, so no need to change them around.
you do know that the first 15 overs are PP. So you agree that Rakibul will waste balls, but you still wanna see him at number 3? that doesn't make sense.

I like this team...Rasel/Rubel could be replaced by Ryad or someone else...usually subcontinental pitches are good for spinners...so I like to go with two pacers.
Raqibul's inclusion in the team is very important IMO....in case there is a typical BD top order collapse...hopefully Rock can provide a bit of Test batting so that we can bat whole 50 overs.
