Default Bangladesh is not even mentioned in Cricinfo\'s year review!!!

Cricinfo's uk editor Andrew Miller reviewed the year 2005(the link is http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/revie...ry/230928.html) but unfortunately he didnt mention bangladesh even though their famous win against Australia last summer.

It was an amazing victory for the tigers and most people think that was the biggest upset in the history of cricket. But Mr Mller forgot to mention the tigers in his review!

Please post your reactions about this.

CI was copying BBC's reporting style and theme (A-Z of 2005 ),obviously they can not include what BBC already mentioned in the report .

Poor journalism from CI and laughable too.

Aren't we giving too much importance to CI now a days? I mean, every other day, all I can see is CI did that and CI did not do that. whats the biggie? isn't there any other topic available?

or are we just bored, and need some cricket?

I have to say that the amount of paranoia has reached extreme proportions. Granted there has been slights and snides from CI over the past years, but we have taken to mixing our pars with our anoids to apoplectic extremes.

As RanabArnab has mentioned in another thread, there is evidence to tar CI of some sort of systemic bias against BD. But then again, CI is not one monolithic entity where a cabal is waiting for every opportunity to stick it to us.

There are some CI journalists who are genuine in their desire to see Bangladesh do well and I do put AM in this category. In the past, I too have launched a broadside at AM for some perceived slight I had noticed in one of his articles (there is a thread on this somewhere here) and his response has been both exemplary and genuine.

One must also remember that all the year end reviews and what nots are usually always a personal perspective of past events (pardon the alliteration). What may be worthy of mention by one may not even merit a thought by another. Had I been compiling a compendium of cricket events (argh alliteration again) from my weltanschauungen, I wonder if I would have many of the events touted by some of the year end pundits. Not because they were not important, but because they weren't worthy enough for me.

As an aside, the A-Z sort of stuff is a well worn journalistic device.

In fact, I may just do one soon from the Bangladesh perspective. Bias me.

great post, Zunaid bhai. I second all your statements, millimetre by millimetre. But I myself do not mind in highlighting the blunt errors on Cricinfo's part, if made any, regardless of who/what the cricketer/team/stat is.

Neither do I. We need to be vigilant and make everyone aware that we exist.

How about 'B' for Bangladesh? I guess he would've desisted from that cos despite the fantastic and upsetting win over Aistralia, BD as a team has underperformed for the rest of the year.

'S' for 'Shocking' or 'U' for 'Upset of the year' would have been teh most apt header to describe Bangladesh's win .

Cricinfo are simply haters, and they are not that important anyway.

perhaps, but 2005 was not that great a year for us. sure we beat ZIM, but that really wasn't much.

just one win against AUS is not enough for end-of-the-year accolades.

2005 was a promising year, but we could have done better. i am pleased, but we could have done better.

To the original poster and majority of blind Cricinfo bashers:

You guys are totally clueless. Cricinfo doesn't do a single "year review". Last year they did one for every test playing country. This year, they have done 3 so far (for England and India). Usually their staff write the year reviews for their respective countries (there are exceptions, though). Andrew Millar wrote for England, Dileep Premachandran wrote for India, Martin Williamson for Zimbabwe and other year reviews will probably follow. Check the articles, if you don't beleive me. Andrew Millar touched Lara/Tendulkar/Inzamam a little, but his article mainly remained focused on England.

People like you have took blind Cricinfo basing so far, that it doesn't make any sense anymore. If you hate Cricinfo so much, then stop reading it. But you won't do that. This makes you even more pathetic.

If Cricinfo doesn't do a year review for Bangladesh, but do it for every other country, then you will have a valid reason to complain

This is perfect because he echoed more bluntly what I didn't quite say.

Why are we attacking AM? He's a true cricket fan and has often said some nice things about BD. Heck I see him list BD's upset as the Best event of 2005! I'll bash CI when it's culpable but that is hardly the case here.

Now on that Nafees Iqbal innings ...

Andrew Miller should be given Bangladesh citizenship. He is the only friend Bangladesh has. So stop complaining.

Zunaid, what is that dot ( . ) looking thing under your name? Every time I look at it, I try to remove assuming it's a dirt on my screen. Is it possible to remove that thing unless it has any hidden meaning?

Looks like it bothers me more than this thread.

Btw, take a look at the Best and worst from AM, Bangladesh is there.
