Default Coach selection still the issue

Quote:
In the cricket arena all recent discussion has centered on the appointment of a new coach for the national team. Everybody is curious to know about who will be the next head coach of the Tigers. But Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been facing a big challenge to find out a suitable successor for Jamie Siddons, and it's not just because most of the high profile coaches were reluctant to agree to a long-term assignment, but also due to high salary demands. So, doubts persist about whether the game's governing body would be able to settle the issue before the Tigers next assignment against Zimbabwe in July-August. The Bangladesh team is likely to fly to Zimbabwe on July 28 to play one Test and five one-day internationals.

The national cricketers will start their fitness training under the guidance of trainer Grant Luden from June 4 till June 15 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. But it's not certain what will happen after that, or who will take care of the batting and bowling practices if the board fail to appoint a coach on time.

BCB's cricket operations committee chairman Enayet Hossain Siraj, however, was confident that the board will be able to finalise the coach by June 10 -- though there has been slim progress on that front -- and because of that they were not thinking on any alternatives like appointing one of the local coaches to conduct the camp before the Zimbabwe trip.

“The negotiation is going on and we are hopeful that we will be able to sign up a new coach by June 10. You know we are not only looking for a head coach but also need to appoint specialist fielding and bowling coaches as well as a physio for the national team. Our CEO (Manzur Ahmed) is the corresponding authority but you know he is now on vacation and will join on June 7,” said Siraj.

It was learnt that a local coach will be working as an assistant coach, but Siraj said that they are yet to discuss the issue of selection of the local coach.

“It's nothing new that a local coach will act as an assistant coach in the team but what we are going to do this time is that there would be a proviso for the head coach in the contract that he has to give the assistant coach a programme,” added Siraj.

“What we believe is that our local coaches still lack the experience to guide the national team, but we hope someday it will be possible if we involve someone with the national side,” he continued

What is doing BCB? We need coach urgently. Because our team don't play test long time. Zimbabwe tour is a prestigiouse issue.

Everyone is due their vacation so I am not going to question someone's personal time. However, I don't see why everything has to be put on hold (if I were to believe the report) because the CEO is on vacation. Also, phone, net meetings are technologies that can be utilized. It won't hurt the CEO to take a few minutes from his vacation to focus on FILING THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN THE TEAM. We, the general public, are self-managed to tie up all loose ends before going on vacation. I'm not surprised but rather angered by this DHILA DHALA approach from BD officials. The product of the dhilami is our national cricket team and we all know what that is capable of.

One point to note - reporters in BD seldom do the necessary leg work and fact check before jumping to conclusions and then presenting those as facts.

Agree with above

Everything's a problem with the BCB (as Shakib would say "Everything was a weakness")

Lipu Bhai's at it again. I see another unnecessarily rushed and improperly vetted bad hire in the making from a mohamatobbor.

If we cant sign Ford or Newell or Bayliss we should sign Ian Pont asap. If we get a specialist batting and fielding coach to assist him we ll do well. We need someone who is passionate about cricket and Bangladeshi cricket. Pont is someone who matches this description.

We shouldnt waste any more time.

FYI I shook hands with the president and agreed terms. I then had to fly back to the UK to help look after my sick father, who then sadly passed away. It was only after I had been away for a few days did I see that the "Fielding Coach Position" was advertised on the ICC web site. It did not surprise me, based on communication previously.

I would like to know exactly what I did wrong to warrant not having a renewal of contract. It is now 27th May and have heard nothing since my application. I wait with anticipation

That's very strange. Not sure if the advertisement is just a formality.

If it is formality, why are the board not speaking to Julien?

LBW - to answer you question, shob gula shala okorma!

The Board is populated by people who apparently do NOT apply a high degree of professionalism in their BCB related dealings (I dot know how they act in their own, private business enterprises). So this horrible lack of communication with Julien and the lack of courtesy in keeping in touch with Ian - does not surprise me. What _does_ surprise me is the brazen and shameless way this same group of Directors turn around and demand professionalism from the players!

I'm sorry to hear about this. It's unprofessional from BCB (if the news is true). Coach Fountain, why don't you ask BCB about this mess (or may be you already have.) You're wondering about it, we're wondering about it, the whole nation is wondering about it. I feel like some people from BCB talk out of turn too frequently to the media.

Why do we need to look elsewhere when we already have you as a fielding coach??? Aaagh BCB!

Wow! What is going on? Hopefully Coach Fountain's situation will be resolved asap...BCB is sooo dysfunctional!

On a different note...does anyone have an opinion about Ireland coach Phil Simmons? He seems to have done well with his charges.
