Action from the Abahani-Dordoi match.
Dhaka: Two-time champions Dordoi booked their place in the AFC President’s Cup semi-finals with a goalless draw against hosts Dhaka Abahani at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday.
In the other match of the day, Nepal’s New Road Team defeated Hasus NTCPE of Chinese Taipei 4-3.
Dordoi topped Group A with seven points while Abahani finished runners-up with five points. However, the Bangladesh champions’ inferior goal difference compared to Turkmenistan outfit and Group C runners-up ITTU put paid to their chances.
Dordoi started cautiously and relied on counter attacks while Abahani were depended on their Ghanaian forward Awudu Ibrahim who wasted a chance in the stoppage time placing the ball straight into the lap of Dordoi custodian Vladislav Volkov.
“We are going home unbeaten and will now focus on winning the title,” Dordoi coach Sergey Dvoryankov said.
“We played well and never allowed Dordoi to stamp the authority but we failed to score,” said Abahani coach Amalesh Sen.
Meanwhile, midfielder Su De Cai put NTCPE ahead in the 17th minute but Ranjit Shreshta restored the parity in the 43rd minute for New Road Team.
Danish forward Shayan Mosavi’s 45th minute strike put NRT in the driving seat. NTCPE scored two goals in the 58th and 61st minute with Su De Cai scoring his second and Chen Po Liang netted the third.
Midfielder Jeevan Sinkemana equalised for NRT in the 77th minute with a low right foot drive from a close range and forward Nabin Neupane drilled home the winner in the 81st minute.
