i only have one album by the venerable erroll garner, 'concert by the sea'. something of a genius, he was self-taught, could never read music and sat on a new york telephone directory perched on the piano stool for most of his concerts! the jazz that i love and listen to the most is probably more complicated, stuck up and perhaps a little more trying. garner represented an era when the beauty of simplicity mattered. last year, i found him on youtube by accident and like you, have grown to love all the clips. there is sheer joy in what he does, none more exemplified by that 'thank you for the music' video.
