Default The "Told You So" thread : Guess the final 11 that will play on 19th Feb

Let's guess the final 11 that will play against India in the opener, not the team of your choice but the team you think will play. Let's get down to facts and statistics and probability, not emotions.

In my opinion:

1)Tamim - can't go wrong there
2)Imrul- again automatic choice
3)Junaid - fairly certain to play here
4)Rokibul - batting + fielding + role of a grafter
5)Shakib - can't go wrong there ever
6)Mushfique - Told you so
7)Naeem - Told you so
8)Shuvo - I believe he will play
9)Razzaq - Can't be left out
10)Shafiul - automatic choice
11)Rubel - Told you so

Can't wait to say to you guys, TOLD YOU SO........

I don't think it's a matter of facts or stats, it's a matter of who is liked by Siddons more than others.

Expected team -

Tamim
Imrul
Zunaed
Mushfiq
Shakib
Ashraful
Mahmudullah
Naeem
Razzak
Shafiul
Rubel

The so called Siddons' Sissified Trio (SST, as named by Sohel NR) + Sir Ash will be there, and we will be playing with one specialist bowler less.

well if that really is the case than your line up fails, because Roqibul's not in the line up. Everyone knows how much JS likes him

you think Ashraful will play ahead of Rokibul? And I still dont believe JS is letting Mushy come up at #4.

I think so too. Ain't no way Mushy will be playing at #4. Couple weeks ago in some news clip I saw JS saying Ash and Rokibul are fighting for the number 4 slots. So I doubt he is thinking about putting Mushy up the order. But Farque thinks Mushy deserves to play at number 4.

Quote:
“In my combination, Nafees will play at No 3 because he is the in-form batsman and he has got the ability to build up an innings and play shots all around. There is no question about opening and Shakib's but we have to think twice for the other positions in the middle-order,” said former captain and former chief selector Faruque Ahmed.

“You can think match-by-match and can change the batting order accordingly. I know Ashraful is inconsistent but World Cup is an event where you must take a chance for good results. Rokibul is not in my plan but if you want to play him then you must have a special plan for him. If Rokibul gets out after playing 25-26 balls then he will put the team under pressure,” he added.

The statistics of the last year shows that how inconsistent the middle-order is as many have been tried in the 30 ODIs the Tigers played in 2010. Aftab Ahmed, Jahurul Islam and Ashraful played a handful of matches while Mushfiqur fully capitalised whenever he got the chance to bat at No 4 but surprisingly, he was not continued for the whole year.

“You must have a player in the middle-order who can finish the game and in this context, Mushfiqur is a good option for you as a No 4 batsman because he has good technique and the ability to hit the ball hard,” said Faruque.

Well, even JS can keep a non-performing player in the line-up for so long. Shakib wants his buddy Mushfiq to be promoted, which makes it even harder to keep Rock in the XI. Plus, Ash is not disliked by JS, he would have played few more matches in the Zimbabwe series if not Shak made a big fuss over the collapse he caused in the first ODI. JS wants to use Ash for powerplays. Since Mahmudullah is keeping the #7 slot (if newspapers are to be believed) I think #6 is most likely to be vacated for Sir Ash (again, promoting Mushfiq seems to be the most likely option there).

But yeah, you are right, it's not all up to JS, Shak now also have a significant say in the team selection. May be he will be the able to force some changes based on performances in the practice matches, which adds unpredictability in the team selection.

Motin will not be in the final XI which implies that Shuvo will get his slot. Motin's inclusion to the final XI is pertinent to persistent under performance by any other batsman in the first XI. This is the team plan drawn up by the team management which also includes Shak.

That will be a sensible choice. Naeem/Riyad are better choices for 6/7. However, I would pick Nazmul instead of Shuvo in the match against India.

But, keep in mind, Sir Ash is a master of sneaking into the team, so you never know!

If Mushfiq bats at number 4, then I don't see how Rokibul can play. That's the only spot where Rokibul can play in this team since number 5 is taken by Shakib and number 6 needs the dhoom dharakka batting that he is not capable of. I do think Ash will sneak into the playing XI just based on his good track record in big tournaments. I see him playing at number 4. Personally, I would prefer Shahriar Nafees in place of him but the problem with SN is he is a left and the other four spots in the batting order is also lefty.

So here it is:
Tamim, Imrul, Junaed, Mushfiq, Shakib, Ash, Riyad, Naeem, Razzak, Shafiul, Rubel.

Will you guys like if batting order comes up like that - Rokibul and Mushfiq at no. 3 and 4 respectively, and then deploy Riyad, Ashraful and Naeem at no. 6, 7, and 8 respectively. fficeffice" />

In that way, middle order will have a bit of stability and tails will have bit of handful batsmen who can play or try to play some shots?

Even though I reckon the think tank has way more better cricketing knowledge than me.

Three pacer option is something that I always advocated . It will take three pacers if we are to compete at the highest level rather than fighting for the lower end of the ICC ranking. However, it will require another generation of selectors to be able to understand strategic planning which is far from being a reality under current Bangladeshi culture.

'Sorry Ash' will be happy enough to receive the match fees though the pavement hawkers(or kotkotiwala ?) will miss him on the pitch.

BDFlag My 11

Bismillah ir rahman ir rahim
In my opinion this will be the squad against INDIA in the opening match

Tamim Iqbal(VC)
Imrul Kayes
Junaed Siddique/Raqibul Hasan
Mushfiqur Rahim(WK)
Shakib al Hasan(C)
Mohammed Ashraful
Mahmudullah Riyad
Naeem Islam/Nazmul Hossain
Abdur Razzak
Shafiul Islam
Rubel Hossain

Both the openers along with Shakib,Musfiq & Razzak were automatic choices. In fast bowling department Shafiul & Rubel were the automatic choices.
The No 3 & 4 spots were unsolved positions for bangladesh .With his ability to play quickies & spinners i opted for MR @ No 4.His recent performance in domestic is good,he scored a number of 50+ innings. But i doesn't see whether those innings were flawless performances or not.
The No 3 spot is most vital & pivotal position in the batting lineup .Raqibul performed well in the domestic circuit i doesn't see whether those innings were flawless or not,but Junaed stabilized the innings in the recent past although his SR was very low,but if he can accelerate during latter part of his innings then it will be a huge advantage. Also he is the backup keeper if mushy got injured.
Ashraful @ No 6 maybe a solution to PP.He is capable of picking gaps and also he can hit hard.He can bowl legspin for atleast 5 overs which adds variation to the spin attack.
Mahmudullah @ 7 also a PP solution. But his past 10 innings during PP's were bitterest performances. But IMO he has the ability to pick gaps, also he has the power to hit over the fence. Also he can bowl offspin ,INDIA has lefties in Yuvraj,Raina & Gambhir .So he can trouble them.
If 3 men seam attack is preferred then Naeem should be left out .If Naeem is selected then he is useful same as Mahmudullah.INDIAN players can play spin very well,so my preferred attack will be 3 quickies+4spinners.
I doesn't prefer Shuvo because there are already two SLA in Razzak & Shakib.

I hope I'm wrong but this will be Siddon's pick for the warm ups and unless there are is a loss to CAN in the warm up or to IRE in the group stages, this will remain the XI:

Tamim
Imrul
Junaid
Ash
Shakib
Mushfiq
Riyad
Shuvo
Shafiul
Razzak
Rubel

I personally would like to see this line up vs. IND:

Tamim
Imrul
Nafees
Mushfiq
Shakib
Riad/Naeem
Junaid
Shafiul
Razzak
Nazmul
Rubel

We will have 2 pacers in the final squad, JS made it pretty clear in some interview. Shafi will be playing for sure, so it will be between Rubel/Nazmul. I think the squad Raynman bhai posted at first is the squad we will most likely see, which is not a bad squad. But I would love to see Mushy and Ash change batting position.
