Selectors thread: Akram Khan, Nannu and Habibul Bashar
(Next two years) Their performance, their speeches, articles etc. on them should go here.
+++
Congratulations to the new selectors. Pray and hope you would bring accountability to this coveted position. I would like extend thanks to BCB to bring in selectors who have huge reputation and experience.
+++
Akram Khan: A very likable guy. I am a fan of his work. I agree with him on the technical committee's faltu-ness.
Abedin Nannu: Has vast knowledge on cricket. As long as he is doing his job and not running his mouth he should be great.
Habibul Bashar: Deshi Manush (nana'r side) tai critic ta ektu beshi and personal. TV'tey recent clip dekhe ektu dukkho pelam. Within a year he has gained some lbs. Should take care of his body better.
+++
Ist Assignment: Selecting for Zim series. I like it with the exception of one. That is my personal opinion. Some new blood was necessary. Let us see how things pan out. Hoping Nasir and Hom gets a chance in the middle.

HB is too close to current players. I hope it does not affect his decesion. I have my doubt if it comes to drop SN, Ash, Junaid, Rajjak how would he react?

Bashar is a bit too contemporary to be comfortable, IMO too.
Akram Khan is the logical sequence, since he has been on the Selection Panel previously.
Nannu is a challu maal.
Kichudin dhore banglanews24 eder pichone lagche, not sure why.

Bangladesh at its current state does not need selectors. What these people could do is officially scout talents and once a week present in front of Shakib and Tamim for approval. Akram, Nannu and Bashar cannot match Shakib or Tamim's professionalism and should stay away from "matabbory".

Ques: did they play together for National Team? I can't recall. They never played together in domestic cricket for sure ... Akram was always with Abahani; Nannu - ajke Abahani kalke Mohamedan; Bashar was Biman's captain as far as I remember! Just curious btw.

i know there is so many big fans of shakib and tamim but team selected fully by them can cause again 58 or 78...sometimes u need to believe the selectors...don't u guys remember shakib and tamim was founded by whatmore and faruq...they gambled with them...and results r front of us. So we should keep the faith on them and give time.

Say Tamim gets out of form for like 30 matches, would Akram and his selection team drop him?

I wish them the best, but they really need to get on tom of this Shakib issue (see http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=195165).
We pick our cricketers young, but there are advantages and disadvantages to this. One disadvantage is that they don't always deal with responsibility well. Shakib is a fine captain on the field, but I'm not sure he is being as professional as he could be. The risk is he will become arrogant and harbour delusions of grandeur.
It doesn't matter how talented you are or if you are the skipper, you should still train with your team.
For all of ashraful's faults (for one thing he was never guaranteed of making the starting XI!) he always took his cricket seriously and (from memory) never acted in a way that suggested he was above everyone else.
Hopefully this is a minor transgression and Shakib will mature in time.
The most talented players don't always make the best captains (take Flintoff and KP for example) and BD have some very capable cricketers (mushfiq and Riyad to name but two. If shakib's not careful he could talk himself out of the most important job in BD cricket....

Since you guys know so much about our selectors already, may I ask who would you like to be our selector?

Yes. Yes I would.
(And for the record, I merely asked a question)

Ashraful's selection alone is irritating the heck out of me. Shuvo's non selection is also puzzling given how weak Zimbabweans are against SLAs.
IMO, selectors are making the situation complicated by not considering Riyad up the order. IMO, Riyad is not much of an allrounder, he needs to justify his position in the team as a specialist batsman (though, to be fair with the selectors, impression regarding Riyad was not created by them, but by our last coach). Nasir should be considered in his place as batsman-offspinner, not in Shuvo's place as specialist spinner-late order batsman.
I hope Law will soon untwist all those unnecessary complications.
Anyrate, for now, both Shakib and selectors should be told to get over their petty arguments and get along with rest of the team management.

may be it's silly of me but does anyone think it can be a conspiracy by these former cricketers to take revenge after Sakib saying things during world cup abt the senior players?
just a thought!

Nope!! Shakib's comment on former players was silly, bad, and uncalled for.
Selectors are paid to do a job. Simple. Petty score settling for these jhanu folks, Nope!! They are better than that.

Shakib is not Vettori. He never will be (in terms of putting different type of hats at one time). There are too much ego and emotions attached with our culture than the Kiwis. People above him would not let that happen also.
As for scouting is concerned, these selectors impressed me by going to several different domestic games even before their contract started (they didn't get paid for those visits). Whereas, the previous ones weren't active and committed like them. So we are in a better hands. They need time before we can make judgment on the trio.
As for matabbory, that is in our blood. They (and everyone else in the board) will do that even if they are not the selectors.

Agree 100%. That one selection left a bad taste in my mouth. There will be one selector in the Zim tour party. He will have a say in the final selection as well. I am keeping my finger crossed.

I also am hoping that Law can lay down the law...I like his comment about figuring out what the players' goals for themselves are then working towards them. Unrealistic or even abstract goal setting that JS may have done clearly didn't work...we stagnated. Lets see how the Law model works. It might fail, but lets see. Who knows, he may even have the solution to the Ashraful enigma, which even Ian Pont had no doubts about his technical ability.

Shakib should not try to emulate anyone and for that reason we should not compare Shakib to Vettori or anyone. For benefit of Bangladesh cricket he should continue to nurture his attitude and fuel his dominance. I support this for the following reasons:
1) the current selectors have not played in the test level and will see the process through a view where their experiences do not suffice to judge a test playing calibre of player.
2) BCB is not a well run organization. A lot of incompetent people have their say in the process. Favoritism is rampant.
Good to hear the selectors are scouting.

-10 for picking Ashraful. +2 for dropping Raqibul. -1 for indicating Mashrafe would have been picked if fit.
