Will Ash be better than Shahid Afridi
I see alot of people comparing Ash to Shahid Afridi so i thought to ask what u guys think.
Here's the Cricinfo summary on Ash
On September 8, 2001, at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, Mohammad Ashraful turned a terrible mismatch into a piece of history by becoming the youngest man, or boy, ever to make a Test century. Bangladesh still crashed to heavy defeat, but Ashraful brought hope and consolation with a sparkling hundred, repeatedly dancing down the pitch to hit the Sri Lankan spinners, including Murali, back over their heads. It was the day before his 17th birthday according to some sources, and 63 days after it according to others; either way, he broke the longstanding record for the youngest centurion set by Mushtaq Mohammad when he made 101 for Pakistan against India in 1960-61 (17 years, 82 days). Ashraful had started out as a specialist legspinner who could bat a bit, before maturing into an opener from the Shahid Afridi school of carefree strokeplay. Bangladesh's surfeit in that department meant that he began his Test career at No. 6. His legspin now lacks menace, but the wicket of Andy Flower on one-day debut suggests some potential.

Afridi is a genius player??
He is nothing more than a brainless slogger! However, he is quite a decent leggie!

ash's contribution will be way better than Afridi in future..just write it down.

Ash is a classy player(maybe bit inconsistant due to his age). Afridi is trash, Who just know to whack bat predetermindly. He should have been a baseball player , not cricket. You cannot even compare him with ash.
Also ash is becoming mature in every match. He is very much eager to learn from his mistakes. Just give him some more time, you will see.

If you just compare the difference in stats between them - you may bring out this poll. Meaning - their batting average quite similar.
But the fact is that while Shahid Afridi is a good leg spin One Day bowler, Ashraful would never become a good bowler; on the contrary, Afridi will never become a proper batsman like Ashraful is.
In batting, when Ashraful started his International career, he may have proved to come from 'Shahid Afridi school of free strokeplay', but not any more.
Also, if you look at any player's general batting average of Bangladesh and Pakistan in one form of the game, you will find that while Ashraful's batting average (in tests) is on the 'specialist batsman's side, i.e., all the specialist batsman of Bangladesh have a batting average of above 20s, but all the specialist batsman of Pakistan have a batting average of above 30s, if not in the 40s; where Afridi's batting average is on the 20s. So how can you compare the two of them?

ashraful is better i think because playes bad ball and defence good ball where afridi just slogs everything and stays in the cries for very little time.

Don't feel you can compare the two. Afridi is slogger, Asraful more of a classic type. Afridi is a role player, Asraful a mainstay.
Asraful (despite his inconsistency) is the type of player you can build you batting around. He has the goods. While Afridi is talented in his won right he cannot be considered that.

this comparison is meaningless. ashraful is one of the most elegant batsmen in the side with all shots in the book under his belt. afridi is merely a "parar cricketer"

I'm not sure but I think there was poll in South Africa during the last World Cup and Kapali was voted one of the sexiest cricketers or something like that. Maybe Cisco Systems is talking about that.

Hmm..interesting comments by everyone....well i feel Ash will definitely have a better average than Afridi by the end of his career....However I feel Afridi has a better hand-eye co-ordination; thus is a better striker of the cricket ball...So if ur talking about consistency--Its Ash.....But as far as strike-rate and brutal hitting of the criket ball goes---Afridi...Cheers...
