Default A Solution to all our batting woes!! Sabbir at 3

Yea, didn't want to keep any suspense. The thread title says it all. With Sabbir coming in the practice game against a decent pak bowling line-up virtually at one down barely after 5 overs has been bowled, handles the innings at awesome strike rate and showing us a glimpse of his potential. He came in at no. 3 as well during BPL. With him at 3, we can get Soumya to open since he IS AN OPENER. And there you go, our batting line-up looks truly settled, without having to move Riyad, Shakib, Mushfiqur from their so-called "self-confessed" comfort zones at 4,5,6 respectively. Here's how it should be:
Tamim
Soumya
Sabbir
Riyad
Shakib
Mushfiqur
Nasir

Top 7 are good enuf, no need to push Nasir or other batsmen till 8. WE JUST DON'T NEED. Put in an extra bowler. And that's how it should be as preparation till next WC...

My main focus was on Sabbir. And of course Tamim isn't required. He can be replaced with Litton. Sabbir can very well become our own version of Steve Smith. Both started as leg spinners and lower down the order, but batting flourished and came up the order one down.

Lol. I already predicted this long back during WC. But, good to see people agreeing with me.

Here is the thread I opened about Shabbir at 3 - http://banglacricket.com/alochona/sh...ad.php?t=45593

Yeah liton and soumya open, sabbir has done well, has the tools to be a number 3 just like mushy.

too much of a knee jerk reaction. Still has a long way to go to prove he can bat at the top of the order.

My batting order:
Soumya
Liton
Riyad
Mushfiq
Shabbir
Shakib
Nasir

With Bijoy as back-up.

Batting at 3 will be putting too much pressure on Shabbir right now. Now is the time for Riyad to step up and move up to three. He is high in confidence and if he can bat at 4 in Australia then he can bat at 3 in the subcontinent.

End off Mominuls short boring odi career

We have many likes of Shabbir, Nasir, who can construct, and can be destructive. No need for another tuk tukii batsmen in the ODI .

My line up for the series would be

Rony
Soumya
Shabbir
Mahmudulla
Mushy
Shakib
Nasir
Abul
Sunny
Rubel
Taskin

Sabbir played the role for Rajshahi. I too think he is a worthy candidate here.

Let Litton-Soumya open.

Liton
Soumya
Mushy
Riyad
Sabbir
Shakib
Nasir

I really think that should be the top 7 (ODIs) atm, the order can shuffle a bit from what I listed but those should be the players

I agree liton and soumya should be opening, they are both openers, mushy, sabbir or riyad can bat 3.

#3 or not, player like Sabbir playing in the top of the order can simply change the game..instead of targeting 260+, we can easily target 300+ when batting first.

Same can be said of mushy, perhaps sabbir and mushy should bat 3 and 4 (not necessarily in that order) with riyad at 5, nasir at 6, shakib at 7...riyad really shouldn't bat lower than 5 ( I'd be hesitant to move him at all while he's doing so well), he needs time if he's going to accelerate, could have shakib ahead of nasir but shakib is a bigger hitter and likes to go for it from ball one. Only thing with that is that if shakib is having a good day we'll miss out on a big score from him because he won't have got enough overs.

We will need to stop carrying Tamim but its impossible until AK leaves the selection board.

We now have plenty of players in the pipeline to replace TI but yet we will have to carry a walking wicket!

I know you want Mushy to bat at #3 or #4... but Rahim, himself, doesn't wants it. So its fair assumption that it is not going to happen.

I don't want Tamim, Anamul/Imrul, Riyad batting one after another. Currently only SS provides the energy in the top order...and if go out cheaply, there is nobody in the top order to take care of the RR day-in day-out. That's why we need players like Litton and Sabbir in the top order to balance it out.

We cannot follow 10 years old Pakistan ODi strategy... we need to adopt AUG/NZ/Indian strategy i.e. to get some quick Runs in 1st power play and keep RR healthy.

Soumya Sarker is doing just fine at number 3. Why give that position to someone else? The only weak link in the team is opening pair. Rony is yet to be tested and Tamim is just not doing justice to his talent. Shabbir can replace one of them if they fail to perform.

Agreed up to the last part..

So you're saying If openers fail Bump Shabbir to Open?

Thats just plain Stupid, and what makes everyone else so sure he'll do so well up the order in a real match.

why change something that is not broken? Soumya is doing just fine at #3. So he should stay there. Shabbir is important in lower order for aggressive batting. Problem is not #3 but #1 and #2 positions.

Liton seems like an aggressive player who plays with high SR. Exactly the type we need at opening now. I think Tamim/Liton would be ideal openers for now in ODIs. When Anamul recovers he should replace Tamim (provided he is still struggling). Liton should get next 2-3 series in a row. Even if he fails after few innings, we should persist with him.

But too bad they have went with Rony who all of a sudden has lost form. Tamim and Rony is too fragile an opening combo.

Sabbir is just a new kid in the block. He is not a regular top order. It is a bad idea to replace regular inform batsman with make shift toporder.
