Shahriar Nafees - The WildCard
I had high hopes from this kid but he has been pretty disappointing in all the matches he played against India.
He looks pale shade of the kid i had seen play against the mighty Aussies. I just have a feeling that he needs to go back to basic for a short while, if not a whole long term.
He is already in squad for SL and is definitely gonna open. If he gets going, it will help Bangladesh team's fortunes no ends. However, another bad series and it might have disastrous effect on his career.
Not sure if he needs a break or he needs confidence boost by allowing him some more team with the national team.

The Bold and Underlined I think. Farooque is taking a big risk.

I think he is just going through the phase of poor run of form...he will soon be scoring runs.. He has a strong mentality and last thing he wants is pressurised by selectors...

Selectors Dilemma is understandable too
A Shahriar Nafees in form is the best hope (and believe me, better hope than Ashraful, IMO) to turns BD's fortunes around. The prominent reason being, he can provide a good start. And a good start is half the job done.
That explains the gambit.
The question is, is SL the team that will let him get his form back. Traditionally, Vaas & Co have been the waterloo of Banglar Players. I suspect most of them are gonna struggle against Chaminda Vaas, if not Murali.
And Malinga is their wild card.

I don't understand why our selectors don't understand the basic. Everybody knows that this kid needs a break and still they don't seem to understand.

Now that he is in the team, I would wish if he could bat little lower in the order, say 5 or 6. Which means, we should try opening the innings with Omar and Mehrab in test matches. Teams like Bangladesh should definitely try to play with 3/4 openers. Since batting is the weekest link of our team, our aim should be strenghting the batting order. I would go for a line up like bellow -
J.Omar
M.Hossain
H.Bashar
R.Saleh
M.Ashraful
S.Nafees
Saqibul H
Rahim/Pilot
M.Murtuza
M.Rafiq
Shahadat. H
Saqib and Mehrab can work together as the 4th bowler option.

The reason I'm saying SN to play down the order is to score some run and gain the confidence. There is no good for a team when a player go to open the innings without any confidence or with long poor form. Once he gets some runs in the middle, he can be always taken at the top again.

Instead of playing in leagues and scoring runs, our players are playing in test matches to gain confidence and form back...only happens in Bd team and with BD selectors...

If that was the case, all players were from other teams as well would have been thrown to domestic league after failure in one or two serries. SN is still capable to play better cricket for BD in national side and hope his luck is with him this time.
Go SN go............time is running out! Make your mind that you are not going to throw away your wicket in those test innings. Hope luck is with you this time.

Agree. In the same vein, don't want to see the BD cricket team as the regular hangout of middle class bored kids- as if it was their god given right to get things without merit.

Not sure why Tushar Imran is dropped from the test squad, wasn't it the same selection panel which picked him against India tests? Did he play any match since then? SO what prompted the selectors to drop him? I really don't understand this. Ridiculous. If you think he is not for the national team then don't call him again and again.
I am not sure how the top order will do. If SN plays good then our problems will be solved partly but otherwise we will have some tough time. Hope he comes back. Hope Habibul plays his natural game as a batsman. Who knows we might see the rebirth of Habibul- the happy hooker.

DJ is very much correct here in his observation. While I do appreciate the persistence shown by the selectors here, I am not sure, if this inclusion helps or hurts him ultimately. He is just plain out of sorts. I never thought I would see him getting out flicking balls leaving the leg stump. He was always shaky initially with balls leaving off stump, a trait shared by many a good left handed batmen when even in form, but, his case right now has more to do with his complete lack of intial foot movement, something very elemental. He needed a break to sort himself out playing at home and scoring a lot of runs to get his mojo back. He is one the very few we have who after a shaky start can actually extend his innings to something meaninful. He is very much capable of playing a big innings. Hope he repays the faith shown by the selectors. If he is unable to do so, we might see his alreday sapping confidence crushed beyond recognition. Keep our fingers crossed here. This is going to be an acid test series for him. He struggled all the way from the WC to India series, and now he is thrown to the wolves vs Malinga and co !
Something to keep in mind here : We have no back up in the middle order for this 3 test series. Don't be surprised if SN ends up playing in the middle order to counter against Murali, something he did in our last tour to SL, which was incidentally his first test series. That way we might be able to hide him from the initial firing line.
I will comment about the test squad in the other thread.

"Shahriar Nafees should start seeing every team as Zimbabwe - Myself"
Protic,
Maybe that is where the issue lies.
I would say, SN should start seeing every team as Australia.

bhai i do like giving chances.. hes the best opener.. but dont u think hes completely out of form?? he should have given some rest... and now if he doesnt do good in the test series.. he will not be selected for the One day also. and this willl affect him mostly..
