Default Utpol shuvros new article. He feels the same pain...

For those young people in BC thinks that BD win against these minnow will back fire or some thing... please read this article. Then u will know, we who have been following bd cricket for long long time, where r we coming from. To us win is a win and at least bd can now say the *** teams that they r minnow. but 2/3 years back we had to stay up all night thinking we might loose tomorrow to Hongkong. anyway here is the link

My favorite part of this article is the last paragraph. The author of this article quite interestingly mentions the long 5 year wait for a win.

I went home from work after that win. I told my boss (who have no clue what cricket is) some thing happen u wont understand but we won say super bowl so i need to go home and celibrate...(ok ok it was not super bowl just a match, but the feeling was like that) btw in that match ash made the fastest 50 for bd zimbo was in full strength. we could have won the series cause there was another match which went close...so I don;t know why zimbo think that its all about their players not playing.. I think even if they played bd could win the series may be not 5-0...

If the players are happy, then that matters the most. But let's not whine about not getting wins like Arnab is in his "love for India" thread in the other section.

I like to win, and I like that they come against the better teams. And I am prepared to wait as long as it takes, as long as players are trying and admins are being honest.

I salute his professional and patriotic reporting, and candid feeling for the BD team. He truly represents the past to the new generation so that they will understand the precarious past that the BD team and the tenacious fans went through. It was never easy. Thanks for this little gem on BD cricket.

I guess everyone should now realise..the current "wins" are not about playing the minnows or the big boys..its all about the emotions.
Let the players have belive on theirselves..and Let the whole Bangladesh has belive on our team... and we will win most of our matches then.. against ANYBODY.
I dont see it that far..

akabir77 : Thanks for posting the article.

Thanks akabir77 . Excellent Utpal Shuvro. He surely reflected the pain of mountain of losses and joy of a win in those years. It will not be so easy for those to feel the same unless being the part of the team and shared those ugly times. LIke him, I also sometimes felt the anger of people who probably started watching BD team int he Whatmore era and immediately jump into the bandwagon for being so judgemental. BRavo UPtal.

Good article..
who would forget that dreadful night when we lost to Canada??
and ...
who would forget that night when we won (finally) against Zims in Zim when they had the full strength team playing...

the ups and lows of life...

and then..who would forget that winter morning when we beat Australia..
hec man we (me and my flat mates) made so much noise that cops came in our house at around 4 in the morning to tell us to keep it quite...

i reckon that GP add sums it up beautifully...

Utpol Shuvro is just denying the truth. He gave more credit to "our self improvement" than the fall of Zimbabwe (and he forgot to name Kenya with Zimbabwe as depleted side). Can he honestly say that we would've surely won at least 1-2 matches against the Zimbos if their side had similar quality of early 2000's?

Yeah, you're right!

They show the fans in tears after losing the series to Zimbos, but in reality I didn't see anyone crying. That ad is nice and emotional, but is not completely factual. Same thing applies for this article.

People had very little interest in the last series against Zimbos, and the series against Scotland was a completely non-event.

we came very close beating them when we were not even a test team. so what makes you think that we couldn't?
And team's become weak. 80' WI is not the 80's WI anymore. SO what, now we shoudln't enjoy if we win against WI or should we just get grumpy like you thinking of this, WI doesn't have player like clive loyed or walsh or blah blah. If they can't produce good player its their fault not ours. we r playing the country not the players.

i liked his article. what he said is true. we may be celebrated too much after beating pakistan and we had to wait 5 years for years. and beating zimbabwe in 2004 in zimbabwe was a turning point.

we have won against a weak zimbabwe but we are not strong either.

This article is not about giving Bangladesh credit for these win. It is about comparing Bangladesh team of 2006 and Bangladesh team of 2004 or before. Even in 2004 Bangladedesh would be afraid of playing kanya and even scotland. Bangladesh is not scared of kaneya and scotland anymore.

The whole improvement is because of under 19 players being inducted in the national team. It is totally designed and expected . Bangladesh team started to win after first batch Aftab, Enamul haq Jr. and nafees Iqbal started playing in the national team. It is no surprise. We are waiting for them to show up for long time. All the investmants are paying off. Just ask Kaneya and Scotland.

Utpol Shuvro should concentrate on the match reports as Protohom-Alo match reports are deteriorating day by day. They got a crap Tareq Mahmood who deos not even know how to wirte match reports rather produces some rubish.

Probably Utpol thinks he is the sports editor so why he should be bothered to write but to keep the quality right he should write match reports often. I am not saying that he is best cricket wirter but certainly his reports are far better than anybody else in bd.

Well written article...Having had my heart broken way back in ICC Trophy 94 against Kenya...I know exactly what he had gone through and how he feels now.....A true reflection of an old skool Bangladesh cricket fan who is thoroughly enjoying this period of success and we all hope it continues.

But unfortunately, a few also think this success is not enough...they expect we should win the WC.

I loved the article...Was really a good one.

Why we start bringing things like - we have only won because others were minnows?Winning is a habit, so is happiness.I am personally on the side who devours the moments of glory for our country(hell we don't have many) than finding reasons for discrediting the success and remain unhappy for ever.
