Congrats to Mr. Barack Obama on winning the 2008 US Presidential election!
Yes, I know this thread is a bit premature but I wanted to be the one to create the celebration thread and I would probably be asleep when it becomes official. So here it is: CONGRATS!!!!!

Officially it has not yet been declared but yeah, it is a matter of time.
I hope Obama will change the world.

America made me proud today. Event like this gets your faith back into what America is all about - a land of opportunity where anybody can become anybody. This is the reason why I love this country. And this is the reason why America will always be the greatest country in the world. There are still subtle racial and religious hatred here but with time I can only hope they go away...
America Zindabad! We love you.
Congrats Barack - he is indeed once in a century leader.
My prediction he will be the man of the year for Time magazine.. lol (seems so useless achievement after becoming the president isn't it?)
I also predict Barack will win the Nobel Peace prize within next 15 years. This guy is a uniter. Let's hope for the best.

let me share you my experience when i was traveling US few months ago. I went to DC to see white house. Over there near the white house park, i saw a muslim woman who was covered in full , taking her prayer in one corner. I didn't notice her and i was walking right in front of her.
then this Police man, stopped me and insisted not to walk in front as she was taking her prayer.
really great country!

It is unfortunate that the race issue has to be associated with this election and quite frankly, an insult to Obama's talent. He could be any color and yet be my first choice candidate. Not once during his campaign did he strike me as someone different because of his racial background.

I am sure that in 2004, most people thought it would take at least a generation before we would see a Black President in the US !

actually I think a lot of people saw it that way. That's why he won. The only "black" person that ever had the chance of becoming president, who people would associate with black was Martin Luther king.
A lot of average joes will still say - Barack isn't black. Is the glass half empty or half full. Is barack black or white.. ? LOL

I dunno... a man who's half black, half white, and was raised by a white mom in Indonesia (with Indonesian stepfather), then by white grandparents in Hawaii... hmm...
The other thing I'm lost on is what his religion really is... his mom was an agnostic (but mostly atheistic) who didn't like the things some Christians did... he grew up in an Islamic environment in Indonesia... and now he seems to call himself a Christian (perhaps pandering).

Warmest Congratulation to Mr. Barrack Hussein Obama.
You have done what seemed impossible and literally rejuvinated the whole world, not just US.
Your ascension to throne and the ability to inspire and unit people of all backgrounds is truely amazing and an example for all of us.
Now that you have made it with unprecedented control of senate and congress, please remember, with great power comes great responsibility.
Unlike your predecessor, please do not use your power to instigate violence, hate, partisan and interventionist politics around the world. The world needs a true leader who can unit us all and the ONLY man who can do so is the President of US.
Please promote peace, resilience and unity amongst all race, colour, social, georgraphical and economical backgrounds of this world. Please lead us all to get out of this economical and political chaos around the world. Please stop the killings of thousands of innocents. Please deeply look into Africa. And YES! off course towards the greater cause of Bangladesh!!
Btw, should we call it "Black House" from now on?

But yes, hooray for Barack Obama! Wagged the hospital and came home early to watch him win and make his speech! Truly a great leader.. and I hope his non-supporters can get behind him like he's asked for. Lookin forward to the next eight years!

It was two back to back great speeches from McCain and Obama. To me, the biggest difference between the two were their approach to conflict. I prefer Obama's approach where a civilized country should always try to make peace with the enemy. I have witnessed great things in America, I see a lot of great people around. I am not surprised to see white, brown, and Asian people voting an American (not african-American) as their president.
Congrats and good luck, you have a Texas size mess to clean up.
ps. Popular vote is now 52-47.

To Sandpiper's picture above:
Obama looks like a man who knows he SHOULD be there.
He was destined for it.
Determined and solid.
The white fella (Biden): Just grateful to be there. He knows, personally, he could have never made it to that podium but is grateful to the person next to him to bring him along.
Obama made his own luck, Biden just can not believe his luck.
A true transitional picture in my opinion.
