LIVE and EXCLUSIVE Discussion with Coach Ian Pont
I, on behalf of BaglaCricket.com, have the singular pleasure of welcoming National Bowling Coach Ian Pont as a member of BanglaCricket.com
He has agreed to come on board and answer fan questions as his time permits. Just as I requested all of you with Coach Julien Fountain, please respect coach Ian Pont's time and privacy.
We cannot be more grateful to have Ian here with us. He has been one of the most accessible of all the coaches we have had. His enthusiasm for Bangladesh and his desire for our boys to excel is palpable and so obvious! I personally believe his enthusiasm and self-belief is contagious and has carried over to the team. One only has to remember Shafiul's slower balls and Rubel's yorkers and both their improvement in death bowling abilities as testament to Ian Pont as bowling coach.
Let us all welcome him to Bangladesh and to our forum!
He is joining us as "Ian Pont"
Fans - ask away!
Coach - you are on!

1. How fast can our bowlers bowl now a days? Specially Shafiul, Rubel and Shahadat?
2. Are we gonna see any surprising element in our bowling department in the WC?
3. Who is the most improved bowler among the current lot? Who has the potential to be a world class beside our National bowlers?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Coach, in the absence of many fast bowling options Bangladesh Team has to make the best use of its available resources and pacers mainly make sure spinners have the batsmen already in check by some accurate bowling. But how would you plan to take the pacers out of this position of standing behind the spinners helping them to dominate the batsmen and rather make them stand tall and be the match winners for Bangladesh?

Thank you Mr. Pont for sharing your valuable time with us.
My question to you is how is the preparation going on for the WC?
You are working with Rubel's bowling action. How effective will Rubel be with the new style?
How do you like Dhaka so far? What is your favorite place?
Thank you again

How do you rate Shahadat and Farhad Reza? Both of them played for National Team. Shahadat was once the fastest and changed his action, I guess, a year ago. He lost his pace after that. Farhad was a regular player in place of Riad/Naeem.. but he got lost due to his ICL stint. But he did well in the recent domestic league. Did you have any chance to give them any tips (although they are not part of the WC 15s)?

Welcome coach!!! We are super excited to have you here. here is my question:
Have you seen Farhad Reza? What is your opinion about him as a bowler? (given he can be an asset to our pp issues as well as third seamer)

Firstly, I would like to thank Zunaid for giving us the opportunity to have a direct interaction with our bowling coach. Appreciate your work, Boss.
Dear Coach,
It's a pleasure having you here among us. We have all been huge fans of you ever since you joined our Tigers crew. I hope you are enjoying your stay. It's really an honor to have you in our National Camp. Here are my questions:
1) Did you come across any potential bowlers in our domestic or national team who can bowl at 140kph+ consistently and swing the ball too?
2) How do you rate our pace attack of Rubel/Shaf/Nazmul? I believe we will be playing with 2 in the starting squad, who are our first choices?
3) Lastly, just like everyone else, I am eager to know about the butterfly ball, which bowler has perfected the butterfly bowler as of now?
Thank You once again for finding time out of your busy schedule and answering our questions

Welcome to BC IAN
1. Do you have any long term plan for making fast bowling all-rounders for BD as we currently got none in our present squad?
2. What happened to your attempt to make Junaid & Zahurul Fast bowlers?
3. Usually we see quicks from other countries are very strong and capable of big hit comming down lower in batting order, So far we only saw Mash doing that, why we don't see similar from Shafiul & Rubel? I am sure they are strong enough as they can bowl over 140k, do they need some training to convert their power to biggies?
4. What advice will you give to Rubel & Mash to keep themselves free from future injuries?

Hi coach, how have you been doing?
My question is about the butterfly ball. Did the boys fully master the technic or is it still " under construction"?
Btw under which username will he be joining us?

Hey Coach...How is your experience so far in Bangladesh? Are you also looking after upcoming bowlers except National team Bowlers?

A new speed star in making
Seems like Rubel and Shafi have to face stiff challenge from this young star.

Welcome to Banglacricket Ian, hope you are enjoying Bangladesh.
Injuries are very common among quick bowlers, but it seems to be a part of Bangladeshi fast bowlers. Are the constant injuries due to lack of physical strength or a poor bowling technique[foot landing, strain on front foot etc]? Or maybe a combination of both?

Hello Ian. Emon here...thanks a lot for joining with us. stay tuned and have fun. :-)
1. What should Bangladesh do to have more international standard pace bowlers with good speed?
2. What kind of pitches do you wish to be prepared for world cup?
3. Who sets the bowling plan, you or the captain?
4. What is the most inspirational aspect for you to be Bangladesh national coach?
5. which country's bowling attack do you think so strong in this world cup?
thank you Sir.

Welcome and thanks for your time coach,
1) Bangladeshi bowlers are not quicky like Steyn, Lee and others. Is there way to make our bowlers more effective at 135- 137kph pace?
2) Given the strength of our spin bowling, do you suggest pitch for this world cup should be spin friendly?
3) For long term, do you suggest Bangladesh should invest in pace friendly pitch and are you planning to bring this to BCB attention?
Thank you.

Been a great fan of Ian Pont from a long time. There was a lot said and I have followed every thread on Indiancricketfans.com and pakpassion. Let me share something about my belief in fast bowling which has changed after I have seen his interviews, fast is not only about that inherent talent, it is something that if taught properly can be mastered by anyone who is willing to work hard.
My question is
1) I personally believe that a slingshot action where can generate more pace than a regular round arm action. Can you shed more light on your opinion about this? I remember how you had mentioned how Javelin throwing can be used as an example to bowl fast.
2) In Bangladesh, it is a normal thing to discourage pace bowling. Captains would not give bowl to the bowlers who stray a bit in line to achieve more pace. There is a world of difference in the words said and the frustrations shown when a fast bowler gives a wide compared to a spinner. I genuinely think that this culture has to stop in Bangladesh, what is your take on this? Aren't we taking out the natural aggression of fast bowlers in Bangladesh by asking them to only focus on line and length?
Thanks Ian, and what a pleasure to finally write to you in our forum not the indian and pakistani forums.

Coach,
You have worked with Dale Steyn. could you please share with us how he was as your student and what he has achieved under your training? Does our bowlers got what it takes to be as aggressive as him?
Thank you
