Default Sri Lanka in South Africa 2019

This series deserves a thread of its own, someone please explain how this Sri Lankan team is winning (with such an average team) in a place where no South Asian team has ever won a series.

SL needs 137 more runs to win the series with 8 wickets in hand currently, it's not over yet but they are on top

im happy for Sri Lanka. They've had a rough time lately, and this win would be incredible given the circumstances.

"Average team" I think so with the batting unit. But I thing Sri Lanka has found a lethal bowling combination and they are keeping the team in the game.

Amla should resign.

This lethal combination seems to have gone missing against Warner and Smith less Australia away and England at home

Yes it took one game for them to click and it has happened. It is no fluke by all means; with continued commitment and with proper management to be injury free this combination is going to do well.

Can our boys seal a similar historic win in NZ?

Teams winning series in South Africa since re-admission:
Australia (1997,2002,2006,2009,2014)
England (2004-05, 2015-16)
Sri Lanka (2019)
Wow...most shocking series win in long time...

SLC seem to have done two things right-

1) Take Hathuru out of the selection process (does not have a say even in XI selection anymore)
2) Bring some experienced players from their domestics, instead of keep looking for next teenage wonder

Hathurhu is a genius. He has some issues of his own but overall he is a great coach and yields better results. Beating south Africa at their own den is a great achievement with an average team.

Congratulations to the SLan team. What a victory. What a timing. Without Chandimal, without Mathews, without Perera.

Test win is no fluke. You have to have substance. Series win stamps your authority. Away series win, you are a legend.

No it doesn't.

SL played Tests in NZ and Australia, got annhilated in 3 out of the 4 games, and then won 2 games against South Africa.

BD tours NZ now, but their last tour outside equatorial conditions was 18 months ago in South Africa in 2017.

HUGE DIFF.

Sri Lanka 2-0 down in the ODI series.

Got knocked out for 138 in the second ODI chasing 251

It doesn't matter what they do in the ODIs. They won a TEST SERIES AT SA. This is their best overseas tour ever. Even better than beating England at England in Test.
