Bangladeshi batsman

This is the first time i have seen Bangladeshis playing ODI on TV against west-indies. Since i stay in Thailand, so i don't have opportunity to see cricket.
Well, one thing i have noticed about bd batsman, the way they hold their bat i dont' think it's proper. They hit hard but it never reaches the fence for four or six. i don't think it's coz of their energy but it is their technique is wrong. I don't think Bd can even win comfortably with the Zimbabwe (black team), atleast their batting is perfect and they are quite aggressive. This aggressiveness is amazingly missing from our batsman. I don't know why but they look so "afraid" when they bat, specially agains the quick bowlers. Very funny to see when they bat agains the short balls.They just simply plate the bat againts it, result-simple catch for slip fielders. They put too much pressure on their right hand while batting and that makes all the catches. I guess Mr whatmore should work on this "holding bat" part.

Good observation, sunny. But I dont think anythings wrong with the way our batsmen hold their bat. Every batsman has his own style and way to place his bat as he choose the stump guard. Remember the way Cris Srikant of India used to hold his bat? It looked quite amateurish, yet he was able to whack the ball all over the ground. I think its all about timing and foot work of a batsman more than how he holds the bat.

Hence I totally agree with you about the inability to play the short balls from our batters. But are they solely to blame for this? Are they ever able to play on a bouncy wicket in domestic cricket? Unfortunately wickets in our domestic league are flat and the likes of Bashar or Javed Omar are flat track bullies. They also lack mental toughness and aggresiveness which is pathetically frustrating. May be a sport psychologist could help our batsmen to change this negetive mindset?

I agree, playing short balls has to do with the fact of the wickets prepared at home in the domestic cricket.

Plus, the powerful shot that all our batsman try to play, the batsman in particular, are all still young and new to International cricket, in time, they will learn to be successful in hitting balls for fours or sixes, when necessary.

It is the experienced batsman like Habibul Bashar, Khaled Mashud, Mohammad Rafique and Khaled Mahmud (experienced enough - having played more than 50 ODIs) who should come forward and close this gap that the youngsters are creating.

i'm a bit lost here (u may think nieve too). can someone show some lingt:

my question is: do we have to play short balls? even in test there can be only 2 bouncer per over. because of the hight, they will never hit the stamp. all the batsmen need to do is getting out of the line of ball and do nothing. even though the ball come real fast, around 90 mph, this should not be that hard. why do our batsmen has to try to play those ball and get out?

i think you missed the point. The limit is only on bouncers but not on short balls. They can bowl at their chest all day long if they want to. It was little funny, bashar was hitting it whenever the ball pitches up but he had no answer as soon as the ball comes around his chest or shoulder. They should have practiced it before coming to WI, even practicing with tennis balls would have helped them coping with bounce.

Actually, Agent Smith, bouncer or not, you have brought up the right thing. After the end of our Zimbabwe tour, the specialist batting coach complained about this exact thing. They do not need to play these pitches, specially in the tests. Also, they do not need to poke at the outswingers that pitch outside the off, when they are not using their footwork to get to the line of the delivery. The third bad habit of our batsmen is playing straigh deliveries across the line. These guys make these three mistakes repeatedly.

to me looks like BD are not so well-prepared for these issues yet. though whatmore said they are well-prepared this time.

I think fishing outside the offstump without getting in line has gone down quite a bit. They leave more of these balls now than they used to. Am noticing a lot of leg side dismissals in this series, again lack of footwork and an overeagerness to pull at everything may be a cause.
