Default Non-existence of BD second string team

WE NEED A STRONG & REGULAR BD 'A' TEAM

This is very unfortunate that Bangladesh has no regular second string team, which can play the role of back-up resources. This has been discussed in different platforms and forums to have a strong and regular 'A' team and keep them busy with tours and series. As a normal procedure, any change to be done in the national side should be backed up from the 'A' team. Now at last, the Chief Selector Farouq Ahmed also complained about the samething and expressed his grief to the newsmen. Here is the report:

Strong domestic league and regular A team along with some improvements with facilities and pitches should be the top priority for BCB. There are really no shortcuts to these. BCB should be determined and commited to these if they were to held their (& our) heads high.

These are the integral parts of basic cricket structure. We just can't go about hoping to perform better in the absence of a solid base line. BCB spent enough time decorating the empty boxes. Its time for them to start filling in and filling in fast.

Default BCB walking on a whimsical path??

..no real A-Team!
....no regular U-15/17/19/21 teams touring internationally on regular basis!
......domestic league is almost extinct!!

RESULT?
1. Underprepared players having to enter National team.
2. Source of Future players not secured.
3. Performance improvement graph of national team is nowhere near as planned.

as I have said before.. that hiring a high profile coaching team(in our case.. Whatmore, McInns and others..) for the National Team is only 25% of the whole job that a country's Cricket Board has to do!!

What about the rest 75%?!!

bangladesh a-team was supposed to play this november in the ranji trophy in india i dont know what happened to that. mayb its cancelled. the selecter should select an a-team and make them play practice matches against the national team and under 19-team. i mean right now i think they could just select an a-team and make them play practice matches. after corporate league tht team can change a little but we should have players that are recognized as a-team player just like players like habibur bashar, ashraful rajin pilot and the rest of the national team players r recognized as national player.
my a-team currently would b

hannan sharkar ( he is dropped from the national team but has talent)
rasidul haque shumon (scored a century for a-team last yr
al shariar ( like him or not he is a good batsman and suitable for a-team)
tushar imran (formerr national team player)
alok kapali ( he can get his form back here)
dhimon ghosh ( he is a great batsman and a wicket keeper)
sabbir khan ( great all arounder has great domestic records)
nidif chowdhary (future all arounder)
alamgir kabir (when star bowlers gets out of injury they can take his place
shahadat hussain ( he can groom in the a-team)
monjurul islam (give him a chance to try out for national team

shamsur rahman
shariar nafeez
naimur rahman
anawar hussain munir

they could be extras. tushar imran was the captain b4 he could remain as a captain and sabbir khan as his deputy. for now bcb could creat this team and after corporate league they can change it. player who performs here goes to national team and players who dont perform in the national team comes back to a-team. players who performs in domestic leagues or for under 19 teams first plays in a-team then fight for a place in the national team. a-team should play more matches if they dont play matches outside of bangladesh they should play in bd. if they dont get a quality team they can play with under 19 or a division or club teams or bksp whoever they can. plus corporate league premier league in dhaka and national league should be played every year. i dont see any reason why it shouldnt. bcb should make it mandatory.

I agree 100% shaoun. How about a tri nations of National team, A team, U19s. Play that for 2 weeks or when the national team has no games. When they do have games A team and 19s will play each other.

That sounds great. As long as the A team is playing matches.

If we have established U-21, U-19 and A team formats and they carry out regular activities at home and abroad, I believe their standards will be very close to each other. There might be tournaments of 4-day, OD and twenty20 formats within these 4 teams (including the national team) at least twice a year. In that case back up problem for each of the formats will be eliminated.

However, domestic leagues of 4-day and One-day formats should be a regular feature with the final semifinal rounds of 5-day matches.

if only it were all that easy!!

Many of the things being mentioned as not occuring (crickethorizon) are actually occuring, so maybe we should all look a little deeper into what is happening and the magnitude, implications and variable factors that go towards playing games between National, A and U19 teams, playing domestic cricket in other countries, extensive touring for age group teams, home and away.

If it were as easy as some of your are mentioning, then we would be doing all of those things plus more, unfortunately we can not do everything at once and sometimes you need to take one step backward or side ways in order to take several steps forward.

Yes coach..I also agree that probably the 'age group programs' r the thoughest ones ... Sorry if i sound too demanding.

As a core member of the BCB's recent developement program... can u please put some lights about BCB's thoughts on building a strong domestic league format?

Why is it missing in the recent past?
and also.. what r the plans regarding forming a full-time BD-A team?

we would really appriciate to get to know from you how BCB is planning to construct the 'Background Structure'
(other than the U-19/17 programs.. coz probably its well underway in ur accordance..as we already hav seen.)

As for a full time A team squad, we have that in the shape of the High Performance Program (Chinaman i am still to send you info on that,) They don't have a full time playing program as the cost is massive and they also need to play in the domestic competitions as much as possible to strenghten it. The HP Squad will have a series against the Sri Lankan Academy from Nov 20, will then travel to Zimbabwe on Feb 15 and then to England on July 17 next year, so there is plenty of cricket for our A Team / HP squad coming up. They will also play corporate league, premier league and national league.

We are in the process of trying to arange under age tours with Sri Lanka and Pakistan for U15 and U17's, U19's, but all of these take time and negotiating with other cricket boards is a slow process, particularly on the sub continent.

Thanks coach for the update. Its good to see few tours are lined up for BD A team ( HP squad). But this types of tour should have been in place by now. Well, better late than never! Probebly most of us suggesting for REGULAR A-team matches like ALL other test playing nations than full-time A team program which isn't financially feasible I reckon.

Erm, does A-team (HP squad) tour of England coincide with national team tour of England in 2005? BD will participate in Natwest Triangular ODI series in May'05? And test matches to follow in June? Just wondering, would it be more beneficial to have A-team (HP squad) tour prior to national team tour? Everything is settled by now, I guess. If not, it deserves a second thought. I think.

Thanks coach for sharing information with us.

It was nice of the U-19 coach to take the trouble of replying to the queries of the members of this forum.

Unfortunately Zephaniah the A team will be there after the national team. Tihis out of our control as the ICC dictate when the national team tours and the ECB dictate when the A team tour. Commonsense would dictate the other way around but television rights and season schedules have determined other wise.

India has a tournament where Indian national squad, A, and the B teams play against ecah other. We can have a similar type of tournament. This can be a solution to the "lack of domestic league" problem, and the selectors can atleast check out the players who are not in the national or in the age group teams.

Yes i also saw that Sunniath. It was the India seniors, India A and i think Mumbai played in the tournament as well. It was very Interesting. Bangladesh should copy this and have. Dhaka Division, Bangladesh seniors and Bangladesh A in a tournament before each home series. Starting from India series because it is not possible to start up the tournament before the NZ series.

First thing we need to improve our six divisional team's cricket structure. They should have U19 tems with the regular team. If money permits, a league with U19 can run along with the national league. For example, if Dhaka plays with Rajshahi at Dhaka then Dhaka U19 will play play Raj U19 at Rajshahi. If it is too much for U19, it could be the second string teams of the divisional teams. In this way we will have at least 30 players for each divisioanl teams.

One HP squad at Dhaka will not help our cricket that much we need more such squad for all divisioanl teams. I know it requires money but did not hear any idea about this from BCB yet. They all busy with international cricket and some of them do not have any idea about domestic cricket! Our main focus should be to improve the divisional teams and this will creat healty competition for the national team and also bring some orginaer in front who do not live in Dhaka.

Another important thing is that we need to create some rivalry between divisional teams... if we can bring general people behind their teams it will be helpful for our cricket and also generate some money from there.

What about some kind of names of the divisional teams like ... Barishal Outlaw (Khulna will compete for this name too), ...
