Default A different match preview!

A different match preview by me, feedbacks are appreciated!

Bangladesh Vs Netherlands!!!

3 days since my last preview, and this match came fast! The last World cup game for Chittagong and the Tigers will want to end their Chatgai tour with another victory! After beating England, their quarter final hopes are back up and now they face Netherland which is also a must win game for the Tigers! While Netherland have been performing below expectations, they had a great start to the world cup against England where they lost the game because of inexperience. So can they bring back their form against the tigers or will the tigers finally make a winning streak in Chittagong?

Team Conditions

Bangladesh:

For Bangladesh, it was about winning the toss, use their strength to max and chase an average total to victory. However, things did not go as it should have. After a quick partnership between Tamim and Imrul, to everyones frustration, Tamim Iqbal surrendered to a very good delivery. Junayed Siddique remains an “out of form” player as he failed to stand out once again. The skipper and Imrul build resistance and were moving towards a victory before there was yet another middle order crash. The game was pulled out from the grave yard by the quick Shafiul Islam who with the support of Mahmudullah Riyad pulled off a huge victory. Now, it’s show time again! Bangladesh has to beat Netherlands in order to proceed to next round and even then they will have to beat South Africa unless West Indies helps us out!

First things first, Bangladesh needs to fix their middle order problem and fast! When 3 main batsmen fails in a batting order it is hard to put together a competitive total unless someone puts a one man show! Bangladesh won’t see Shafiul’s fireworks every day! It is too harsh to depend on lower order to make up for the middle order. Players like Junayed Siddique, Roqibul Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim is failing consistently and therefore, it is a must in for the batsman Shahriar Nafees to make his comeback. Tamim Iqbal looked solid and will look forward to providing some more delight for his home city tomorrow. Captain Shakib Al Hasan also found back his rhythm but will need to convert his good starts and avoid throwing away wickets. It was an absolute relief to see Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah Riyad shine. The resistance from both of them will provide a backbone to out batting line up so others can bat freely around them. The power play has finally acted for the benefits of Bangladesh but it will still need to be continued.

As for the bowling, Bangladesh did everything right! With Shafiul and Rubel providing a good seam attack, the spinners have done their job in Chittagong. With an extended 4 men spin attack, expect one of them to start with Shafiul tomorrow. It was also a relief to them to see turn in Chittagong wicket, something that was missing in Dhaka. In a low scoring field like this, spinners should dominate in the morning and afternoon.

Netherlands:

Well Netherlands dream of quarter final is already over. But it never looked as though they had any chance of making it in the first place. They performed an average cricket even to the associate standard. However, they are definitely capable of creating upsets. They will be confident going into the game as they defeated Bangladesh in their latest match up. They will look to continue similar performances. But exactly how well can they adjust to spin and a different condition will be the question and challenge. Their last game against India would have been a lot more competitive if they would have managed to score more. A score of 189 wasn’t enough neither it will be enough to hold Bangladesh. Their bowling showed signs of improvement as they managed to take 5 wickets for 139 at one point of the game against the massive Indian top order.

Squads!

Bangladesh:

For Bangladesh there isn’t much to change in terms of bowling attack. They will want to utilize the benched Sorwardi Shuvo as their 3rd leg spinner as the Netherland batting line up is loaded with right handers. But who will replace him? It should be one of the off spinners as they won’t be as effective. But after a match winning effort from Riyad, it is Naeem Islam that might need to stay away! Banagladesh will definitely miss his wonderful fielding and excellent bowling, but Sorwardi Shuvo is capable of nothing less! His only challenge will be to handle to pressure from the crowd as this will be his World Cup debut. So the bowling attack is expected to be, 2 pacers, 3 leg spinners and an off spinner.

The problem however remains with their batting order! As mentioned above, the top order is proving to be a complete disaster for the team as nearly every batsmen is failing again and again. To everyone’s further disappointment, Coach Jamie Siddons is reluctant and even stubborn to try the experienced and underrated Shahriar Nafees. After a 4 game failure, it will be doing nothing but a dishonor to him if he does not get the shout. However, news is running high that finally Siddons has “thought” about him! If he does get a shout, than it is likely that Roqibul Hasan might be taken off even though he performed well in first 2 games instead of Junayed Siddique who failed in every single one! Either ways the squad becomes,

Tamim Iqbal

Imrul Kayes

Junayed Siddique

Shahriar Nafees

Shakib Al Hasan (Capt)

Mushfiqur Rahim (Wk)

Mahmudullah Riyad

Sorwardo Shuvo

Abdur Razzaq

Shafiul Islam

Rubel Hossain

Netherlands:

As an associate, they really have one way to go, pick the best possible combination. After their batting woes, they will want to improve on their batting line up to put together or defend a competitive total. Their bowling was better against India but there is a huge difference between Delhi and Chittagong. They will need to load up with every possible spinner to gain some advantage from the surface. Peter Borren, the skipper will have to stand out on both sides and give his team an edge, the squad remains,

Eric Szwaraczynski

Wesley Barresi (wk)

Tom Cooper

Ryan ten Doeschate

Alexei Kervezee

Bas Zuiderent

Tom de Grooth

Peter Borren (capt)

Bradley Kruger

Mudassar Bukhari

Pieter Seelaar

Watch out for!

Shakib Al Hasan:

The captain of Bangladesh who have been unsuccessful recently until the game against England where he performed well with both the bat and bowl. After getting his house stoned after the horrific display, he was in a huge pressure going into the game, Now, he will be able to play much more freely which generally produces better result. He will be delighted to have all the right handers as opposition to his advantage and expect a run through the Netherlands line up if he gets a chance. His captaincy on setting up the field and bowling attack is getting better every day! So his controlled and dominating performance is something Netherlands will hope to avoid!

Ryan ten Doeschate:

He has been the one that managed to stand out in this world cup from the entire Dutch squad. Started the world cup with an amazing century against England. He is also proving effective with the bowl as well as he did pick up a couple of wickets in this tournament. However, his recent matches have not been successful. Well this will be his chance to revive and on his day, he can cause some major damage!

Toss:

Finally an all-day game! That’s why the captains won’t have to worry about dew factor which makes the toss less important. There will be positives on both sides. Batting early in the morning might be a better idea when the surface will be less effective for spinners. However, if the bowling team can restrict the opposition under 240, it will be a joy to bat after noon as well! Don’t expect a high scoring match unless of course Tamim and Ryan steps up and plays at least 20-30 overs. So the key will be bowling!

So win the toss, 50-50, I might just move in favour of batting!

Thanks, the reason why i would want to bat first is because, later on the afternoon, the pitch is expected to dry up and even crack a little bit aiding our spinners

I would bowl just to be on the safe side.

If we do bat first, it'll be a good practice for the SA game. Yes, i should not discount Holland but it is what it is.

If Neds bat first, restrict them to 200 runs. If BD bat first, it has to be 250 runs.
