Default The mindset of Ashraful

Let me first say, well done to Ash for finally running into form, albeit against substandard opposition. But, as we have recently learned to accept here at BC, "A win is a win is a win".

Depspite his good form, I was a little concerned about his latest comment after the first win in the BD-Zim ODI series:

Quote:
Quotes
"As I am no longer the captain, therefore I have got to perform with the bat if I want to keep my place in the side."

Mohammad Ashraful provides the reason for his batting revival
[source: cricinfo]

So, according to this, Ash was not batting to an acceptable standard when he was captain because he felt his captaincy would guarantee his place in the side? Is that the right mentality of a captain - to merely be concerned about keeping his place in the side?? I am amazed that such a self-centred player has assumed the role of captain of the Bangladesh cricket team - a role that requires selflessness, and a singular desire to succeed as a team. What a disgracful attitude!

Correct. The question was posed as had the lift of captaincy released the burden from his shoulder and thus he is performing? (something similar)

Pola'ta thik moto uttor ditey parey nai first'a and then he says yea released pressure. That's all. Watch the presentation ceremony from Mo's thread. It is there.

I also noticed that odd comment. My interpretation was also same. I also thought it’s because of his poor communication skill and inability to express his opinion properly. If that is the case, then the less he talks to the press the better it is for him and the team. This time he is performing, therefore this kind of comments will not be over analyzed. However the same type of comment(s) would create lot of problem for him if he would say something like that after the WI TEST series before the ODI series (for example).

He need to understand he is indeed in show business; as sports is also part of show business now days and player(s) with more charisma (along with some success) get the most attention, money and pride as well as scrutiny and criticism.

He need to learn when to open his mouth and when not to; and further more when he open his mouth, he need to make sure he answers “to the point” and not create opportunity to interpret differently.

The same comment never came from HaBa when he was the ultimate passenger on the team dressing as captain . Ash at least realizes the situation which HaBa never did. I bet HaBa still thinks he is the best. I interpret Ash's comment it on its face value. If he doesn't perform, he will be out. Good realization and he is getting runs, which is of paramount importance for us.

After reading all the comments on Ash, nearly everyone scrutinizes and analyse each word that comes out of Ash's mouth.

My interpretation is that he meant that he has to perform to maintain a place in the National team, and that he is free from the burden of captaincy. Poor Ash, he just cannot express himself properly in English, maybe, he should have tried saying it in Bangla.

Now, if he fails to score any meaningful runs in the next ODI, he will once again be the bashing boy. Now, he is sort of elevated, but see how quickly he will be floored if he fails to come up to expectation.

I think it is now a tradition to bash Ash one day and compare him with Tendulker the next. Comes with being a Bangaldesh cricket fan, I suppose.

Ash was ignited by some comments from R.Price. After he hit Price for the 4th boundary in an over; he walked up to price too agreesively and showed him the ball outside the boundary rope & probably told him to bring it back. Some other umpires would have probably fined him for that.

He continued smashing price in his subsequent overs as well, until he was close to his hundred. He even surviced two partial chances.

He was clearly in angry young man type mindset on that day. And everything worked well for him. Lets see if he continues to show similar mind set.

Unless Ash starts to perform consistently, we should not spend so time analyzing every comment he makes.
