Default Mahmudullah Riyad. The next captain of Bangladesh?

This guy has serious captaincy skills. He has already taken the team he captained to 3 BPL finals, only to lose to the best captain in Bangladesh, as one legendary captain comes almost to his end of career, another seems to be rising right on time. And rising how!

Said this before, this BPL will show us again who is fit to lead us. Will it be Tamim or Mahmudullah? On one hand you have Tamim who has captaincy in his blood, seems to command respect and if someone is not willing to respect him he will get it anyways because he is that alpha male kind of guy. But Tamim's captaincy is still immatured in many ways, tries too many things and is a risk taker. He won DPL with his side this year, however Abahani was too strong, strongest in the competition by fair margin hence not really considering a major achievement yet. And watching him in BPL he does create many mistakes, does not trust the quicks and has anger issues which will let moral down.

On the other hand, Mahmudullah continues to impress me every match. Every time I have watched him captain he looks calm, relaxed but at the same time attacking. He takes bold but strategic decisions, leads by example and takes responsibility. He is the Dhoni type of leader which is calm and composed but is always thinking on how to take the game away from the opposition. Even if he didn't single win these 2 games for his side single handedly, look at his past records. He has taken mediocre sides to finals in BPL and has been seriously impressive. If we can add his captaincy to the test side right now, it will add another dimension to our cricket and I believe strongly we will see more success.

I have repeatedly said that the next captain of Bangladesh will probably go down in the history as the most successful captain of Bangladesh ever. This is because he is going to inherit all the good work from Mashrafe, a settled lineup with seniors juniors ready to contribute and a team suitable for all conditions. If Mashrafe doesn't win a major trophy like CT or WC that is. So for Mahmudullah to impress as a captain is a major step in his career at this point of time, he is one step ahead of everyone to be considered as the captain currently. What's more inspiring is that he has been on record saying he enjoys captaincy, and dreams of leading Bangladesh one day. That is the passion and dream that is also needed, he is a dreamer as well as a performer.

I now can't wait for Mahmudullah to take the reigns of captaincy from Mashrafe, he might just take us to the top 3 tier or win us a major trophy by 2019. He is my next captain, I am sold, I was already sold after last BPL final but this time it is here to stay. He is winning games with just his captaincy, this is amazing!!!

Better than Shakib and Mushy? hell yeah

I hope Riad takes up the captaincy in all 3 formats. He is pathetic senior player in the background, looks dead, he sucks the energy out of the player. But as a captain he is different.

Riad should be the captain and Miraz his deputy. Miraz by the age of 24 will be a key component of our side.

^^ Riyad would make a good captain for Bangladesh LOI side. But his place in the Test team is not secured yet, so he should not be given Test captaincy.

Look at the team Shakib and Tamim have.. and then look at Riyads team... That shows you how good of a captain he is. He never complains about having a ordinary side. He knows his resources, he plans it well, executes it well, changes it when required and not afraid to take risks. Thats a good captain right there..

Agreed

His test performance is poor. He doesn't bowl at all these days and not a reliable fielder. I wouldn't mind replacing him with Mosaddek if we play in the SC.

Although, he seems too laid back on the field most of the times, being captain seems to give him extra motivation. Wouldn't mind him as our next captain.

Tamim doesn't have the patience to be captain. Today he threw his player under the bus just because he couldn't handle his anger. To be successful as a captain, you have to be calm and lead by example. Mahmudullah does just that and he knows his limitations with his players but he still manages to pull wins after wins. I think he's a strong contender to be VC in the LOI format.

Yes what Tamim did today was immature.

He himself got out cheaply twice in a row.

He should try to defend his own players

riad's captaincy was brilliant. i like the way he rotate bowlers. In T20, u never give chance batsman to settle. he did exactly what need to be done. i think he should be test captain.

mashrafi should know how to use riad as a bowler, infact he started his career as a bowler and he is more than decent bowler

Damn son, this guy is a different beast when he is the captain. Better question is, why doesn't he bowl more in international matches?

Captaincy brings out a new better stronger character in him. And so much, ideas, plans, he knows exactly what he is doing. He is simply the best choice for captain after Mash!

Mash, Haturi and management does not give him the ball. It's either that or coach told him to focus on batting more(we can see this move paying off huge dividends in the last 2 years or so). Now he has to bowl in BPL because he is captain and he has to lead from the front.

Riyad is a good player but it seems he is not been able to apply his full potential to become a world class . Captaincy might just be the key to achieve his maximum potential. I would not consider tamim as mashrafee's successor. He is batting good recently and lets not spoil that.

Maybe.

First move will be to drop passengers from the final eleven.

And he also has to believe in his players.

He should be captain for the New Zealand test tour. Definitely a replacement for Mortaza after the Champions Trophy. Mehedi Hasan will be our long term captain after the world cup.

I do see him as a future ODI&T20 cap, for tests he needs to play more big innings first

Nice reminder. But we all (am sure) know he needs more working on his test game. What everyone mostly want is him to take over LOI captaincy after Mash, and not TEST.

We don't have any other viable option other than Ryad. I am betting on him to score in the NZ test series and seal the deal as our test captain.
