Default Bangladesh now and middle nineties SL

Have any of you noticed that there is a lot of similarities between BD's current team and SL in middle Nineties?

It's already been told that Ashraful is quite like Arvinda De Silva.

What i want to add is,Aftab has the killer instinct Joya had and we have a very good spin attack like them, althoug still short of a Murali.

And i really want to believe that we found our Vaas in Russel, someone said he once was a opener,so with proper care,he can be developed into an efficient allrounder.

I personally believe we have all the possibility to achieve SL-96 in 2011,and again, its another WC in the subcontinent.

If BD is given a fair chance to play the so called senior teams frequently, you will definitely do very well in the World Cup.

The mid 90-s team of SL was the World Champion side. A bit too early isn't it to compare with them ?

I would say that we have to win a few tri-nation's tournaments which has at least one other test playing nation and beat a few teams in away matches to come close to the mid-nineties Sri Lankan team.

No way.. Srilanka had their best cricketing moments in mid 90's. They were already a world beater by that time. You can perhaps compare Sl of late 80's to current bd team. So.. that gives us. liek 7 years to to win worldcup and to be a world beater.

We're not even as good as 1998-2000's Zimbabwe yet. That team went to the Super Six of WC1999 (without getting any walkover) and won a 3 test away series in Pakistan in the next year.

Heck, even the Zimbabwe team of 1996 whitewashed England in a 3 match ODI series (home series)

Rafique is too old, he's already 36.

I think we will be better served with a strokemaker filled batting lineup than having just a great hitter like Jayasuria in the top order. There are many prospects in the juniror level who could match Aftab/Asraful, provided they get proper nurturing.

definately we have to go a long way..... which is impressive and encouraging though is the fact that we are improving every series.... in the beginning when we got the test status, it felt like we were stuck in the same phase for a while and weren't going anywhere.... thats not the case anymore as more and more talented players coming up and filling the space in the national team....

Sorry to dissapoint!! Raifque will not play in the 2011 WC for sure. We will have plenty of SLA coming up. May be Sakib (19) can be the one.

We are not even close to the mid ninties SL team. No Murali, not even close. No Ranatunga. No Kallu. Ofcourse no Jayasuriya. They fought almost every match (be it test or ODI). home games were not a walk in the park for any team. That team may be better than the current SL team.

2 for one 1. Ash-Aftab can be our De silva. He performed every match, may be one of these two can step up every match.
