We used to beat the MCC back in the late 90's/early 00's. Seeing that this is virtually the national team batting line-up under a different label, we better beat them again.

Law to rule MCC v Bangladesh ‘A’
Date released: 31 July 2008

"Law in action for Lancashire Stuart Law will captain a young MCC side against Bangladesh ‘A’ on Friday 1 August, in a 50 over match at the Racecourse Ground, Durham.

Law, the Lancashire CCC captain and former Australia batsman, will bring his vast experience to a team comprised of MCC University and MCC Young Cricketers.

The choice of a young team continues a recent trend of selection in MCC’s flagship matches, as John Stephenson, the Club’s Head of Cricket, explains:

“Playing the touring international teams gives us a great opportunity to provide our most promising University and Young Cricketers with quality opposition, in matches that will test their abilities and bring out the best in their game.

Stephenson: Keen to give young cricketers a chance "All of our players will be looking to impress the first-class counties in the hope of a securing a professional contract and so I’m confident we can beat Bangladesh ‘A’ in Durham.

"We are grateful to Stuart Law for captaining our side. His experience will be invaluable to the young guys in the dressing room.”

Tickets, team & commentary
The match commentary will be broadcast live on the Lord’s website – www.lords.org. Blind or partially-sighted spectators at the ground will be able to listen to ball-by-ball commentary on specially-provided headsets.

Spectators will be able to watch the match for free at the Racecourse Ground.

The MCC team (below), has one player still to be confirmed. Johann Malcolm, a Loughborough University cricketer, was due to play for MCC team but has had to withdraw as he is currently making his Leicestershire County Cricket Club first-team debut, against Warwickshire.

MCC team
* Stuart Law (Lancashire CCC)
Akbar Ansari (Cambridge UCCE)

Duncan Bradshaw (Oxford UCCE & Essex CCC internship)
Kunal Jogia (Cambridge UCCE & Derbyshire CCC internship)

Faisal Shahid (MCC YC)
Rob Woodman (MCC YC)

† Ned Eckersley (MCC YC)
Will Gidman (Durham CCC, ex-MCC YC)

Dan Gale (Durham UCCE)
Kyle Hodnett (MCC YC)

* denotes captain; † denotes wicketkeeper

The 50 over contest will begin at 11am.

Young cricketers step-up

Gloves are on: Eckersley The four MCC Young Cricketers's in the line-up, will be keen to seize the opportunity to test themselves against international players.

Young Cricketer (YC) new recruit, Ned Eckersley will be behind the stumps, having only joined the 'YC' scheme this season.

Eckersley has already enjoyed a good start to his season, scoring three half centuries and 102 against Northamptonshire II at Radlett in June.

Good all-round: Woodman All-rounders, Robert Woodman and Faisal Shahid have also shown good form with the bat this season.

Woodman has four half-centuries chalked up and Shahid scored an unbeaten 53* against a strong Surrey II.

The fourth Young Cricketer in the line-up may find himself opening the bowling.

Protea pace-man: Hodnett Right-arm fast-medium bowler, Kyle Hodnett, notched a five-for in the match against Northampton at Radlett.

South African seamer, Hodnett, models his game on Proteas hero Shaun Pollock.

No doubt, like MCC World Cricket Committee member Pollock, he's been enjoying his countrymen's asscendancy over England at the moment too!"

And, if you go back another ten-fifteen years, the MCC of Conrad Hunt used to beat our natl teams regularly. We have made a lot of progress in fact. Not as much as we would have liked, but, still progress is there if you really want to go back that many years. The teams of Hyderabad and Deccan Blues, with likes of ,Roger Binny and Madan lal gave us tough times. Our players now have the attitude, but not yet the mettle, to consistently buckle down and score a lot of runs. Will come.

I tend to look at it from a positive angle. Since we struggle so much, it also in a way make our fans a lot more knowledgeable, at least in BC, as we are constantly exploring new ideas, dissecting our players tendencies and teams weakness or inabilities. If we won all the time, we would only open celebratory threads congratulating each other, or just go to the games like in Australia to get some Sun and beer. Not saying that I would rather lose. Actually, more wins are what we need and looking for. However, nothing great comes out without some initial struggle. In the end, this generation of cricket fans, because of the struggle will end up as the most enlightened of cricket fans. Who knows, maybe in thirty years, our venerable Tigers_Eye may end up having the best selling cricket book of all time.

Lets teach the Marylebone Cricket Club thing or two.

Big Z: This is your chance to play big innings and return to form.

I cant believe we are playing MCC, well what i mean is that after a tiring experience in England where rest is at short supply following matches after matches. I hope Tamim gets a rest because if anyone deserves it most its him. Anyway I hope the boys post an impressive total against them and Im not hoping for a win because I am expecting the mto. Theres a difference.

If Stuart Law is there best player than we havent got too much trouble. For Lancs he got out for 7 runs but Im sure he will try and score better if his team are to have a chance.

Bangladesh A team must win against young MCC squad. If they can win comfortably against MCC then I think they will win their next match against Durham too.

The MCC is "the world's most famous cricket club" - http://www.lords.org/mcc/about-mcc/. Sorry, but if you don't know who they are, you're not a great fan of the game.
