Pacer Hunt Final Contest was today..

Grameen Phone pacer hunt final contest was held in dhaka today..

from the participating 25 contestants... top 8 has been selected and they will be sent to India/Pakistan institutes for further training.

Top Speed: 86 mph by a college-student from comilla.
2nd Top: 85mph.

Just saw the ntv news and they r reporting that the guy from jessor was the fastes with 86 MPH but to me he wasn't that impresive not tall at all but the guy POLASH frm rajshai (who was fastest with 82) was very impressive. He is 6'2" and looks like right handed wasim(facial).. So girls get ready we r going to have a LK in our hand pretty soon...

85mph by Palash of comilla

top 8 pacer's speed was 80+ mph

& interesting news.... Talha's speed was only 76mph & Sahadat's speed was 78mph today...

86 mph is impressive. So far 26 bowler has been found who can clock 78 mph or higher according to the posts. This is just the beginning for them. They have to go through a long process to fix their line and length. Now a days fast ball need swings to be effective.They need to work on that too. We need one or two more mortaza.

It will be interesting to watch who can emerge as world class bowler from this 26 prospect.

Why only 8 of them selected? I'd select most if not all for further grooming. Pacers have injury problems more often than not. We'd never know when we need them and how many.

talha and shahadat's speed is signicantly decreased in here probably because of the speed gun they're using. remember how coach mcinnis said these speed guns are about 10% off.

so the the guy speed from jessore must be bowling at around 94 mph!

Whatever the speedgun says, these guys bowl 5-10 mph faster than Talha. Thats impressive. WOW!

Yes, Chinaman; we need to groom more of them. Pacer-Injury. The hidden gem could be skipped over.

I can't believe this. With all these national level bowlers pouring out of Sylhet (Taposh, enamul, nazmul, shanto, alok, rajin) I can't believe they didn't get a single pacer hunt prospect from Sylhet. I wonder if they even did a hunt there. If they didn't, they should immediately. Sylhet is a gold mine for bowlers.

Why on earth would anyone want to send these guys to India for training ? How many world class pacers have India produced in their 60+ years of cricket history ?

They will go to MRF Pace Foundation(India). This was established in August '87, with the legendary Dennis Lillee of Australia, as Director. Our Masrafee and Santo also went there for training. Irfan Pathan also a product from this foundation. In South Asia as far as I know this one is the only academy for pacers.

There was a pacer hunt in Sylhet too but I guess there are no more fast bowling talents (in Sylhet) who are yet to be unearthed.

Grameen to help BCB hunt speed
STAFF CORRESPONDENT
After a long preparation the pace bowler hunting programme of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is finally set to begin on December 9 from Chittagong under the auspices of the GrameenPhone.
The BCB will conduct the programme in 11 regions across the country, where everyone under 16 years of age will be allowed to take part. The bowlers with the average speed of 75 miles per hour will be called up for nursing at the BKSP.
Of the bowlers, the best two will get a chance of higher training at the MRF Pace Foundation in Chennai, India. Besides, they will also be included in the High Performance Unit (HPU) of the BCB.
All these information were revealed at a press conference, organised jointly by the BCB and the GrameenPhone, at the National Press Club on Tuesday. Richard McInnes, the HPU manager of the BCB, was the principal speaker at the press conference.
Khondakar Jamiluddin, the vice chairmen of the BCB development committee, and Mirza Galib Ahmed Ansari, the head of the marketing department of the GrameenPhone, also spoke on the occasion.
McInnes said they will lay emphasis on the raw pace of the lads irrespective of movement and swing. A specialised device will be used to determine the speed of the deliveries.
GrameenPhone will provide Taka 15 lakh for this purpose. They will also bear the other relevant costs in this regard. Players, willing to take part in the programme, will be able to collect registration forms from the local offices of the GrameenPhone.
National pace bowling coach Sarwar Imran will conduct the programme in Chittagong (December 9-10), Comilla (11-12), Bogra(16-17), Rangpur (18-19), Rajshahi (20-21), Khulna (25-26), Jessore(28-29), Mymensingh(January 3-4), Dhaka Metropolis (6-8), Barisal (10-11) and Sylhet (13-14)

This hunt is solely for finding Speed-Stars.. and yes they have intensionally ignored the line-length factor(as the Coaches explained on TV). After this primary selection.. the top speed-guys will be set to train for the Line-Length thing... so dont worry!

One more thing: If BCB speed gun shows 10 mph less thn wht the actual speed is... they we have 25+ nos. of findings who bowl at 90+ mph?!!:duh:

in that case we really should train much more (than just 8 of them) of these guys to improve the overall standard of our play in domestic level too!!

These guys are genuine fast bowlers. If even one of them can become world class that in itself is a big achievement. Best of luck to all of them; especially to Zahidul Hassan Khan from Gazipur (my home district

i think this +10 mph thing is crap. i know mcinnes mentioned it, but can't come in terms with believing that we have so many ppl who can bowl at 90 mph. i think mcinnes meant that the machines are faulty to some extent, but not as much as 10 mph.

Don't under estimate our new generation. I see almost all of the youngsters (that I know in Bangladesh) are taller than their Dads. Is it change of food habbit, eating too much 'growth hormone enriched' farm produced meats, change of environment, or what I don't know. Now they are growing stronger and bigger!

Whether faulty or not the pace of these youngsters are bound to increase over the years. Their actions will be worked on by coaches and they will get stronger with more practice, mind you they are all teenagers. Akram, Akhtar, Lee, Waqar all bowled at their fastest when they were 23-25. As the coaches work on these bowlers bowling actions their pace could also increase. Shane Watson is a recent example. Watson usually bowled around 125-130 kph, and with his new improved action his bowled as fast as 144 kph in a recent ODI against New Zealand. Ajit Agarkar is another example. He may seem like a thin, slightly built person but he was a very strong wrist action. At one stage Ajit bowled regularly around the 140 mark. Lillee was the man responsible for working on his action. So lets hope for the best. Maybe we will have a couple of genuine fast bowlers in 2-3 hrs. For the time being, lets keep our fingers crossed...
