Shoaib Doubtful for AFRO-ASIA CUP [ Mash = automatic choice? ]
Shoaib Akhtar, the Pakistan fast bowler, is unlikely to take part in the Afro-Asia Cup in India next month, citing personal commitments. He added that he needs more time to recover fully from his knee injury, which ruled him out of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi later this month.
"I have some personal commitments in June, so it is unlikely that I will play, although these are international matches," Shoaib was quoted as saying by Reuters. "I have informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about this."
Shoaib was included in the Asian one-day squad for the Afro Asia Cup earlier this week after he told Cricinfo ten days before the squad was announced that he was confident of recovering in time. However, he later stated that he needed more time to get his rhythm back and was hopeful of playing in the one-off Twenty20 international against the Africa XI which precedes the three-match series.
"I have offered to play the Twenty20 match instead as it will give me a chance to bowl a few overs in competitive conditions,'' he was quoted by PTI. "I am fit but I want to be super fit and make a permanent return to international cricket.''

Soo.. Shoaib not playing in the ODI's.. Mashrafe can be the AUTOMATIC choice for the seamer spot? eh? He can even bat better than vaas, malinga, asif.
Shoaib wants to play 20-20.. maybe they can shift places.. mash n shoaib.. though mash overtakes shoaib in both 20-20 and odis for now.. FOR NOW..when shoaib is not confident on his own bowling..mashrafe is the better choice for both 20-20 n ODIs..
I HOPE the selectors picks mashrafe.

If I were the guy representing Bangladesh I would have said either take in at least two of our players, or no one at all. That would have sent a much bigger message. I don't know if he had the authority though.

I sure don't want Mash to play a three ODI series in hot & humid Chennai in June. The chance of an injury in this series for a pacer is too big. I don't think the honor of representing the marketing XI worths the risk.

I hope they don't select Mash, or any other player from BD for the ODIs. Who wants to play at Chennai in June? 120 degrees heat index (feels like).

worthless series...plus we don't get due respect...just one guy in the ODI team who prolly won't get a match either.
put 4 token bangladeshis in a meaningless form of the game during a meaningless series, i hope all BD people know what that means.

No, I don't want Mash to play in this. In fact, I don't want Rafiq to play in this either.

Great idea, especially for Bashar. This would be another excellent opportunity for him to announce his retirement from ODI

hahaha
i'm sorry, i just found this funny...sending JO and Bashar...with the strike rates they have
at first i was happy about mashrafe being a part of it...but now that i think about, i don't want him getting injured for a game that's not even for bangladesh...although i like watching all the subcontinent people together...i think mashrafe will do much better in the 20-20 game...at least with his batting. and i wouldn't call this a worthless series...at least some of our players will get a chance to play with people from other countries and learn/improve (hopefully).

Looks like Protic is going to get his wish granted -
Quote:
Mohsin Khan, a member of Asia’s selection committee that picked Shoaib for the 14-man squad, told ‘The News’ that the pacer has been excluded from the team after it was ‘reliably’ learnt that he is not fit. He said that Shoaib’s replacement would be announced from among three reserve pacers shortly. Bangladesh’s Mashrafe Mortaza, a talented fast bowler, is likely to come in for Shoaib.
‘Unfit’ Shoaib Akhtar dropped from Asia squad

Mash is perfect for 20/20. It would be a crime to not play him.

I tend to agree with you mate. This afro-asia thing is a load of crap anyway, and hence there is no real pride in taking part, as shoib is showing.

TheWatcher : I dont want it anymore.. no mashrafe !! I got the heat thingy in my head..
But ..they are taking mashrafe for sure.. Even Dravid labelled Mashrafe as one of the best allrounder currently playing for Asian teams.

The young lad deserves it for a simple reason that he has a big heart and is a tremendous fighter.

We shouldn't send Mashrafee even if he is picked. He needs the break before the all important SL series. Selectors be careful !
