Default Here we go again : Bangladesh bashing, this time from Ian Chappel - Less glamour, more competition

It seems premature for current and former internationals to be pushing for cricket at the Olympics when the ninth-ranked side in the world wouldn't beat a good Australian club side.
Bangladesh are currently a poor team and the most disturbing aspect is the rapid deterioration of their standard. In 2005, they beat a strong Australian side in England and then seriously challenged them later in the tournament. At the 2007 World Cup they defeated India and South Africa to reach the Super Eights. However, their recent form suggests they have as much chance of beating a major side away from home as George Bush has of becoming Iraq's next President.

Chappell, Chappell, Chappell. Putting things in his words, just like Bush can never be the president of Iraq, his words will fall deaf ears as long as he doesn't look before he leaps!

BDFlag wow young Chap

hmm thats strange for him to say...if he was at all intelligent, he would have known that Bush is the president of Iraq, just not in title. Who do you think is selecting their puppet administration, policing their cities and setting the rules of 'democracy'? anyways...back to cricket...Bangladesh has been very unlucky to not get it right in the third match..at one point, with Tamim and Shakib in the crease, the game was ours to take..but then we would be having a very different conversation now wont we?
heres my theory of what is going on...there has been a lot of asia bashing recently.
These are the same ppl that would not want white skin to touch Pakistan soil, regardless of whether the how secure you make their stadiums, therefore there is no champions trophy. There is always bad blood with India, umpiring slip ups and cover ups when they play australia, they cannot stand how a dark skinned man Murali can break Shane Warne's records..hey check his wrist action..he is a thrower! and last, lets kick these bangladeshis off the scene..we are an elitist sport...with only 8 nations playing each other year in year out. No need to expand..and now we want only 8 countries to fight for the olympics.
Tony greig wanted us to dump down with kenya and zimbabwe and doesnt consider BD an 'international' team..Ian and other white media share the same belief that BD should not be be playing cricket at all.
What does this tell me? it tells me that ppl like to take advantage of a bad patch...yes we are not performing, but the media is taking advantage of that weakness and making a bigger lobbying to get rid of Bangladesh in the international arena.
We are all angry and dissapointed with our performance, but we are not asking for cricket to be any more elitist than it already is. Its an expensive sport, and high level talent is not created, its developed. We need more exposure, more game time...after the SA series in december, nothing is scheduled...which means wait around longer till our players rot and lose their rhythm. Thats not the way to advance...give them game experience..play time equals win time..they might be run down right now, but they will show up against NZ..take my word for it...u heard it here first.

BTW why does he compare us with SL? Sl r the best in Asia... Why not compare us with India or NZ? and Even though we played the 1st ODI in 86 if he had done his research correctly he would know that team was full of amateurs who got the chance because we qulified in Asia Cup which also started very new...

Anyway so if we are not doing well what the hell the other 8 TEST nations r doing to help us? They give us the most difficult time to tour, most difficult picthes to play and then their Buddy umpeires rasies their hand with thinking twice even if they think then their captain tell the umpeirs to get it right...

Go and F***king do you research Mr chappel my foot before babling jubrish... What would you have said if we beat your Austrlian team in Australia? We became very good over night?

Ian Chappel's negative comments about our cricket during Aus-Ban match was really getting under my skin. But again honestly, I don't think we can blame him for criticizing our cricket. We just really have been playing crappy cricket. We really have not stepped up our game since our good performance in the last world cup. It has all been all downhill rather than going up hill. We should have defeated the Australis in the 3rd one day match. We had the match in our hand and we just blew it away. I was so mad and still upset and can't believe we threw away such a golden opportunity. Beating Australia in that game would have been an awesome comeback for us. Also it would have served as a great reply to Ian Chappel and Tony Greg's negative criticism about our cricket.

This kind of articles have been popping up time and time again for last few years. My concern is not how Chapple is phrasing his comments and how often he is singing the same song. My concern is that he is making some precise points about how Bangladesh Cricket (as in BCB, players, leaders) have not succeded in developing our cricket. Not enough has been done on our domestic circuit to develop the players.
Off-course there is a big issue on the Asian vote in ICC. Chapple can rant about it as much he like. The fact remains that Bangladesh was brought on to the Test arena based on the fact that there is a huge pool of players and fans to foster the development. Until we prove ourselves worthy of this status articles of such will keep on coming our way. Keep in mind that India, Pakistan and Srilanka had a huge interest in bringing BD into test arena for their benefit as well. Before hitting back on Chappel I would ask the question why India is not letting us play a single series in India when they were our biggest supporter in getting the test status. As some fans suggested that it may be an issue of white and brown skin but I see the biggest lack of support is coming from another brown skin nation not so much from the white ones.

Through cricket we still have a golden opportunity to show the world that we can. We need good leaders in BCB and on the field to inspire the players and people who are working for cricket directly and indirectly. Critics are getting stronger and stronger; sooner or later they will force the changes if we don't do something soon.

BCB, what are you going to do about it?

Tony Greig criticized the BD team terribly when they toured SL in July 2007. He was so critical of them, but Sanjay Mandraker, and the other 3 SL commentators were very sympathetic towards the players. Ranatunga called for other nations to help BD, but I think that it is only talk.
On the whole, The aussie commentators are very critical of players of any team playing against Australia, IMO, they are worst of the whole lot of commentatorsThey should only be commentating on the game and not criticizing the players, but they do this all the time, though, they never criticize their own.

The FTP is planned until 2012, who knows how BD will fare after that. Countries may not want to continue playing Test cricket with BD, which means that they will have to be content playing ODIs and 20/20s matches.

do u know what is the real reason behind our failure in the domestic arena? Money.

I have heard, "Pakistan, India and BD have so many inspired supporters, howver why aren't BD oozing with talent?"

This is incorrect. We do have kids who can exceed 145+ in pace, we do have consistent explosive batsmen...but they will forever be under the radar. They were weeded off way before local selections..they come from poor families..and under bribery, they dont stand a chance. Instead, rich kids get to play the game. We cannot change that culture. U would never hear of these injustices at the domestic circuit...no matter how much money u invest...u will be only training subpar talent...the real talents are finding other avenues to succeed after they realize cricket in not in their future. They cannot pay the fees, the equipment, the bribes to local coaches..necessary to make it in front of selectors...
U all know about it...when will you all admit it??

There is enough reason to criticize Bd cricket because not only we are not winning but we are
not playing competitive crickt.
If only we could play good crckt agains NZ this series it would save us.
I hope all Bd plyrs are informed about this threat agnst Bd crckt.
We really need to performe, performance is the key of all crisis.

One more year of JS/BCB (The cause of deterioration) will surely fulfil the mission of Chappels.

We should welcome these sorts of Aussie Criticism!

Last time they bashed Bangladesh (a very disgraceful, offensive and insulting advertise in Channel 7 Australia) - few hours later, we trashed them in Cardiff

This time senior Chappell have to eat his comment is quick succession

We had Kiwie roast, Let BBQ some Kangaroo steak this time...
