Default Promotion of Mahmudulla in Batting Order

For last couple months, many of the BC memers were asking the question whehter Mahmud should be promoted up in the batting order due to his consistency and batting form during last two series. BD team management thought the same and promoted him to No. 5 for BD-ENG series. In this series, he scored fifties in first innings of both the test matches and those fifties were not big fifties. However, in 2nd innings of both the tests he fell very cheaply, when BD needed his service badly. I dont believe he was one of the victims of the bad umpiring decisions in any of these four innings. I was wondering whether his mindset has changed due to this promotion in batting order. IMO, he played more responsibly at his old position (No. 8) knowing that there were nobody after him to make significant contributions battingwise. On the contrary, at No. 5 he probably thinks that even if he gets out there is no problem, there are atleat 3 good bastmen after him, who can hold the innings.
What do you guys think?

Riyad is not good in 2nd innings. So I will put him down in 2nd innings by promoting Mushy in middle order.

We have to be little more patient with our players. he played reasonably well after his promotion to 5. Couple of 50's in each Test is not a bad return. It will take some time for him to settle in his new position.

1ta test thekei eto theory ? the sample size of 1 makes this a most unscientific analysis.

would u send tamim at no 8 so that he can play more responsibility ???

batsmen want runs and they have more chance of getting the more upper they get.

batsmen want exposure and name, thats what they will get more when they play at 5 not 8.

just think a foreign commentator to whom riadh is unknown. when he will see riadhs name at eight then he will think he is a tailender who can bat. but when he sees his name at 5 they will say whes he is a batsman who can bat.

finally.... whats better? changing his mindset or changing his order ??? if we take him back at 8, what will happen to naeem who is currently at eight ???, who will come to five ???

did mushfiq had any problem when he was moved from 6 to 4 in ODI's ???

sachin, jayasuriya started at 6-7. botham started at 11. they gradually got to top order and become more responsible cricketers.

to me order is not a factor if somebody is good techinically and mentally.

look at india team now. dhoni has been moving up and down again and again. gambhir hasbeen going opening or one down depending on sachin playing ot not. well stat may show in some position he has averaged better. but does it matter too much?

for the teams sake a player should be ready to anything. to win our ICC final..... atahar was due come in 11.

I know this not scientific analysis. This career is not long enough to deduce any statistical conclusions. So far he has played only 14 innings, 8 of which is at No. 8, 2 at No. 9, 4 at No. 5 (NOT 1 as you mentioned).

Time will tell what happens in future. I sincerely hope that he would be our permanent solution at No. 4 or 5.

Good point. Law of mathematics dictates that you need a minimal sample size of 4 before establishing a pattern.

Mahmudullah is 99.01 % fit for any place. However, I believe he is 1100 better than Imrul Kay AND IT DOES NOT MATTER IF HE EVEN bats at No. 1

haha, kind of funny actually. he's played like 4 innings after being promoted up the order and 2 of them have been half centuries. honestly, he's done a pretty good job so far after being promoted.
