Default Congratulations Aleem Dar for winning "Umpire of the Year" award !

Aleem Dar named Umpire of the Year

Quote:
Aleem Dar, the Pakistan umpire, has been named Umpire of the Year at the ICC Awards ceremony in Bangalore. He has won this award - named the David Shepherd Trophy - for the second time in successive years. The other nominees in the category were Steve Davis, Tony Hill and five-time winner Simon Taufel.

Dar, 42, was voted by the captains of the ten full members of the ICC and the eight-man elite panel of ICC's match referees for the period August 24, 2009 to August 10, 2010. Their choice was based on his decision statistics and officiating skills over the past 12 months.

After collecting his trophy from match referee Chris Broad, Dar said: "I think the fact that I'm still playing cricket in Pakistan makes me a good umpire. In the last four times I've played cricket I've scored centuries so I definitely think that has helped."

Very sad to see nobody opened a thread to congratulate this great man. He is a true gentleman in cricket area and needless to say, a great Umpire.

Congratulations Aleem Dar for winning this award for the second time in successive years beating his counter part Simon Taufel.

He has been a trademark of overall good umpire after Simon Taufel. He is also very hard working as I read on Prohom Alo. He was taxi driver for sometime in his early life.

congrats! you deserve it

How he missed the dead plumb of Vettori in last match? This series would cost him in next year?

that was clearly inside edged. Forget about what Dumb Athar said in the commentary.

Aleem Dar is a very good umpire. He is up there on the highest standard from the very beginning. Also I like his personality in the field.

Nadim, even Simon Taufel makes so many mistakes.

Congrats! Wow, still playing cricket at age 42, very impressive indeed. Imagine the pressure on the umpires on the matches Mr. Dar is actually playing, haha.

dont believe cricinfo. It was dead plumb as the replay suggested. I think cricinfo didnt watch the replay before posting. There were some delay on providing replay by NeoC.

Aleem Dar is a BOSS. Favorite umpire, well maybe Taufel but definitely one of the best in the business. Hats off to him.
