স্পোর্টস রিপোর্টার ॥ 'বাংলাদেশে অনেক খেলাই রয়েছে। তবে বিশেষ করে ক্রিকেট খেলার জনপ্রিয়তাই অন্যরকম। বিশ্বকাপের উত্তাপই তার প্রমাণ বহন করে। বিশ্বকাপে সবাইকে একত্রিত করার পরিকল্পনা করেছিলাম। তা সফল হলেই সার্থকতা। তবে এই রকম আসরকে আরও সাফল্য করতে প্রয়োজন একটি বড় স্টেডিয়াম। যেখানে ৭০-৮০ হাজার দর্শক বসে খেলা দেখতে পারবে। প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার কাছে সেই অনুরোধই করেছি আমি। বলেছি, একটি ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়াম বানিয়ে দেন।'-গতকাল বুধবার নগরী শোভাবর্ধনে হোটেল সোনারগাঁওয়ে ইসলামী ব্যাংক বাংলাদেশ লিমিটেডের সঙ্গে বিসিবির চুক্তি সম্পন্ন হওয়ার আগে এই তথ্য দিয়েছেন বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ড (বিসিবি) সভাপতি আ হ ম মোস্তফা কামাল (লোটাস কামাল) এমপি।
টিকেট নিয়ে কতই না জলঘোলা হয়েছে। তুঘলকি কা-ও ঘটেছে। বিশ্বকাপ হবে দেশের মাটিতে। অথচ অধিকাংশ ক্রিকেটপ্রেমীর স্বাদই পূরণ করা যাচ্ছে না। মাঠে বসে ক্রিকেট খেলা দেখতে পারছে না বেশিরভাগ দর্শকই। তা করা যায়নি মূলত স্টেডিয়ামে আসন সংখ্যা কম থাকায়। এমনটি থাকলে ভবিষ্যতেও এরকম দুর্ভোগের মধ্যেই পড়তে হবে। তা জানেন বিসিবি সভাপতি। এইজন্য প্রয়োজন আরেকটি বিশাল আকারের স্টেডিয়াম। যেখানে দর্শক ধারণ ৰমতা বেশি থাকবে। একসঙ্গে অনেকেই খেলা দেখবে। বিশ্বকাপের পর দেশের মাটিতে দুটি বড় আসর রয়েছে। ২০১২ সালে এশিয়া কাপ হবে। মিরপুর শেরেবাংলা স্টেডিয়ামে ১ থেকে ১২ মার্চ অনুষ্ঠিত হবে এশিয়ার বিশ্বকাপখ্যাত এই আসর। ২০০০ সালেও বাংলাদেশ এশিয়া কাপ আয়োজন করেছে। তবে ধীরে ধীরে ক্রিকেটের প্রতি সাধারণের আগ্রহ, আবেগ আরও বেড়েই চলেছে। সেই চাহিদা মেটাতে আরও বেশি আসনের স্টেডিয়াম লাগবে। এশিয়া কাপ শেষে ২০১৪ সালে কেবল বাংলাদেশ একাই আয়োজন করবে আইসিসি টি২০ বিশ্বকাপ। সেই আসরের সিডিউল এখনও চূড়ানত্ম নয়। তবে দেশের প্রতিটি ক্রিকেট স্টেডিয়ামেই খেলা পরিচালনা করতে হবে। কারণ আসন্ন বিশ্বকাপের মতো সহআয়োজক নয় বাংলাদেশ। টি২০ বিশ্বকাপ একাই আয়োজন করবে দেশ। এইজন্য দেশে একাধিক স্টেডিয়াম রয়েছে। কিন্তু বেশি আসন সংখ্যার স্টেডিয়াম প্রয়োজন। সেটি কঙ্বাজারে হলে সবচেয়ে ভাল হবে। খেলা দেখার সঙ্গে পর্যটকদের বিশ্বের দীর্ঘতম সমুদ্র সৈকতের সঙ্গেও পরিচিত করানো যাবে। দেশের পর্যটন শিল্পেরও প্রসার ঘটবে। এমনই ভাবনা মোসত্মফা কামালের। দেশের ক্রিকেটকে আরও প্রসারিত করতে এবং দেশের সম্পদকে বিশ্ববাসীর সামনে তুলে ধরতে প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার কাছে তাই একটি বড় স্টেডিয়াম এবং সেটি কঙ্বাজারে হলে ভাল এমন অনুরোধই করেছেন বিসিবি সভাপতি, 'বিশ্বকাপ দিয়েই বুঝেছি, দেশে আরও স্টেডিয়াম প্রয়োজন। তাহলে যারা হতাশ হয়েছেন তাদের অনেকের মন ভরানো যেত। কিন্তু আসন সংখ্যা কম থাকায় তা সম্ভব হয়নি। সামনে একাধিক গুরম্নত্বপূর্ণ আসর রয়েছে। আছে এশিয়া কাপ। ২০১৪ সালে টি২০ বিশ্বকাপ আয়োজন করতে হবে। তখন প্রতিটি দেশ এসে খেলবে এখানে। এই জন্য অবশ্যই একটি স্টেডিয়াম প্রয়োজন। যেখানে আসন সংখ্যা আরও বেশি থাকবে। তাহলে আয়োজনও আরও সমৃদ্ধ হবে। এখানে আসার আগে (হোটেল সোনারগাঁও) প্রধানমন্ত্রীর সঙ্গে কথা বলেছি। তার কাছে একটি স্টেডিয়াম বানিয়ে দেয়ার অনুরোধ করেছি। বলেছি কঙ্বাজারে হলে বেশি সুবিধা হবে। জানি প্রধানমন্ত্রী হতাশ করবেন না। খেলার প্রতি তাঁর আলাদা আবেগ জড়িত। তিনি খেলা পছন্দ করেন। ক্রিকেটকে এগিয়ে নিতে যা প্রয়োজন সর্বৰণিক তাঁর সহযোগিতা পেয়েছি। এবার একটি স্টেডিয়াম হলেই হয়। সামনের আসরগুলো আরও ভাল করে সম্পাদন করা যাবে।'

On a serious note, I think it is a good idea to build a stadium in cox's bazar and promote tourism.

Yes it is. That's the culture. Salah uddin had to do the same thing to get the BKSP- Sylhet facility for his Football academy. Ramendu Mazumdar and Gong had to do the same thing for their National Theater. We all have to butter/oil/abdar the politicians for any project that is a capital project.

BCB was targeting Cox's Bazar for a while since it has the hotel facilities, airports and the geographical advantage. Fe months back, he said that BCB will fund their own statium instead of waiting for NSC to approve it for a ' multi-purpose' stadium. I think he now realizes the cost of it and asking for PM's nod while things are hot.. as much as I don't like Loitta, I do support his greasing the PM for the stadium because he wont get it without her majesty's kind consideration..

id dont think only one stadium will be enough we will need at least 4.

lets build 3 stadiums at cox bazar, mymensingh, jessore .....

then we should start renovating the SBNS. may be at 4 phases, we break 25 % and rebuild and so on.

so immediately after the WC BCB should make a stadium strategy. they need to identify current stadiums which can be renovated into higher capacity stadiums and also find suitable places for new stadiums.

i think we need at least two 80000+ stadiums (one at dhaka)

four 40000+ stadium

several 20000+ stadiums.

also we can consider like this we can play test or local matches at the lesser capacity matches were lesser people will come. the t20 and odi matches can be played at higher capacity grounds where more people are expected to come.

so its up to BCB to see there schedule for next 10 years and then make a plan of venues

If a stadium is built ever in Cox's Bazar...i would like to see hard & bouncy wicket...i am sick of seeing low & slow wickets in our stadiums....

#I also liked Bogra Shaheed Chandu Stadium...it had bright green outfield when i last saw it during the historic match against Srilanka(2006).... but the city may had few problems regarding the availability of international standard hotels & also the poor indoor facilities of the stadium.
If these problems are managed & capacity of the stadium is increased by amount of 10-15k more...then this will be another good prospect for our future cricket

So these 4 stadiums should be our main priority ahead of 2014 T20 WC

so whats going to happen to the SBNS in mirpur? i thought we invested a lot in it to be our "home of cricket". they should expand that stadium...or totally redo the seating and add a 3rd tier to make it a 60,000 capacity stadium at least.

Lotus continues to show he's a muddled thinker. A big stadium in Dhaka accomplishes nothing except create opportunities for corruption and an edifice that would be used only 5-6 times a year to maximum capacity. It is an unncessecary luxury for a poor country. He should focus on fixing Fatulla and making sure we have 6-7 world class facilities AROUND the country. One in Sylhet. One in Khulna. Improve Bogura's stadium. Improve Chittagong stadium. Make sure they have fields that drain well and a large number of practice wickets. Make sure they have an adjoined indoor facility. If you asked a Saber bhai, he'd agree. But our Lotus in the meanwhile focuses on something; শালা পচ পাচ করার জন্য তো ঢাকায় কিছু বানাইতে হয়
