BDFlag Our ODI batting lineup

What should be our batting lineup against Pakistan? This is what we know:
  1. Although Tamim is out of form, he is firmly entrenched at the opening spot as perhaps our best batsman.
  2. Mushy has become indispensible, although I don't want him to keep. I would rather have him in the team as a specialist batsman, even if it means going with one less good batsman.
  3. Shakib is the only batter capable to rotating the strike at will.
  4. Our top order is unsettled.
  5. Hom looked good in ZIM, but has been stinking up the joint ever since.
  6. Junaid and Raqibul are not fit for international cricket. They no longer can score 20's regularly.
  7. We have been playing two top-order batsmen, Naeem and Riyad, at 6, 7, and 8.
  8. Nasir looked good at 6 or 7. Hopefully, he will not disappear like Hom.
Anything else you want to add? Dispute anything I said?

What should be the batting lineup, leaving the last two spots for Rubel and another specialist bowler?

well no chance for hom anyway since he's not in the squad.....naeem at 3 mushy at 4 shakib at 5 riyad at 6 nasir at 7 tamim opens and i guess we keep imrul as 2nd opener (he's been way better in ODIs than tests)

Everything is nice and all but why give up hope on poor lad hom so early ? how many chances did he actually get to show his worth ? give him a break. He just needs to sort himself out to make a full comeback at a later time. Now we should focus on the ones who are regular in the national squad and aren't performing adequately. And I mean the likes of Kayes, Nafees, alok league.

i reckon hom will turn out to be a really good player and although he did ok versus zimbabwe he's been in terrible form since.

This is what I'd go with:
Tamim
Imrul
Naeem
Riyad/Mushfiq
Shakib
Mushfiq/Riyad
Nasir
Farhad
Razzak
Nazmul
Rubel

mushy
shakib
nasir
forhad
razzak/sunny
nazmul/shafiul
rubel

last time riyad played at 4, he was just about great! so i want him to bat at 4. we shouldnt unleash the in form pakistan team on sunny on his ODI ebut but given razzak's present form, i am in dilemma. if i were to give an unbiased view, i would go with nazmul and rubel as the 2 specialist pacers but since shafiul is my favourite, i just can't keep him out of my team

My preferred team

1. Tamim
2. Imrul
3. Naeem
4. Mushy
5. Shakib
6. Riyad
7. Nasir
8. Reza
9. Sunny
10. Nazmul
11. Rubel

Again I believe the selectors will go with Razzak and Shafiul rather then Sunny and Nazmul. And then I think SN will be the #3 but I believe this team would be very effective.

I don't want Abdur Razzak in the team, people who were calling Ajmal a chucker, look at Razzak, even after correcting his action he looks like a blunt chucker. So we shouldn't be pointing fingers at others when our leading wicket taker is one.

Imrul
Naeem
Mushfiq
Tamim
Riyadh
Shakib
Nasir
Reza
Nazmul
Shafi
Rubel

Tamim hasn't really shined as an opener in odis to be hoenst, I beleive if we play him down the order we can witness many great knocks from him.

This would be my lineup aswell, although i think it should be nazmul/shafiul rather than rubel/shafiul, as rubel should definately be in the team

I like the team, except:
  1. I would not move Shakib from his comfortable #5.
  2. Will they go with three pacers in the team? Especially against PAK. They play spin well, but they murder mediocre pace bowling.
  3. I would go with Nazmul instead of Shafiul for the entire series to see whether he has what it takes.

He asked for BATTING line-up only.

Tamim, Imrul, Nafees, Rahim, Shakib, Riyad, Nasir-- my first preference

I could live with these 7, although I am not sold on SN. We'll see, I guess.

Probably the best possible squad. Would drop Imrul if he fails this series and make Naeem open and bring in Shuvagoto Hom or Anamul (in future).

Probably not, but it will be a shame if they do not, given Shafiul's recent form (or the lack thereof).

Our biggest problem seems to be #2 and #3. If Mushy could do well against the new ball, perhaps we could have him open with Tamim. There are some options that can be tried at #3, but the selectors never showed the patience to stick with anyone to see whether it will work, other than Ash and perhaps Raqibul. How about trying either Riyad and Naeem at #3 for a few matches. Naeem is more suited for the tests. I wish Riyad rediscover his ability to rotate strike. Can he handle new ball?

Should we ask Shakib to open with Tamim? Shakib had to face new ball on many occasions due to top-order collapse and dd well. One player had the physical tools to be a reliable #2 or #3, but not the rest. I am afraid that we have to keep on looking for the next Tamim/Shakib/Nasir/Mushy for these positions. I would love to be proven wrong.

My XI for the 3rd ODI:
1. Tamim
2. Imrul (Let's give him another chance)
3. Mahmudullah (Let's see whether he can cut at #3)
4. Shakib (Should work well here)
5. Mushfiq (Please learn to rotate strike)
6. Nasir (Might be the answer at #3)
7. Kapali / Naeem (Neither is ideal here, but the selectors chose a lousy 15)
8. Sunny (Abdur Razzak lost his touch)
9. Shafiul (Has done OK in the series. 3-pacer attack in this ODI.)
10. Nazmul (Should give him a chance)
11. Rubel (Clearly our best pacer)
