Bashar may opt for Surgery :(
Quote:
Is it Trophy jinx again for Bashar?
Staff Correspondent Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar fears of missing the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in India as he might be needed a surgery in injured hand that forced him to skip last six one-day matches.
Bashar was also ruled out of the last edition held in England when he injured his right thumb.
Bashar got an expert opinion from Australia on Saturday that advised him to undergo a surgery to be cured completely, something that put him in two minds as he is adamant to play in the Champions Trophy.
‘I’ve been told by the Australian doctors to undergo surgery but it is almost certain I will miss the Champions Trophy If I accept the suggestion,’ he said on Sunday.
‘I will consult a specialist tomorrow (Monday) at the Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka before making a final decision,’ added the premier national batsman.
Bashar, who had broken his fifth metacarpal while attempting to a catch during the second one-day match against Zimbabwe, had earlier visited Thailand for the treatment. But there was no concrete suggestion for him from the Thai doctors.
He was given both the option of surgery and external treatment and the Bangladesh captain accepted the latter for reasons understood by all.
‘Believe me, I have no pain now. I’ve even started training also. But still I am ready to do surgery if there remains no other option,’ said.
After the Champions Trophy, Bangladesh will play against Zimbabwe in November and then will prepare for World Cup in February-March. A home series against India is due in May.
‘I don’t like to miss the Champions Trophy anyway. But at the same time I cannot take risk, there are many more matches coming for us. It’s really a tense situation for me,’ said the middle-order batsman.

Bashar wants to play in the champions trophy but he doesn't wants to agrivatte the injury anymore and possibly miss the up coming tours and with the World cup just around the corner maybe he should lay off the painkillers and medication and take the surgery.

Hayre pora kopal! It's a maximum against our poor team!
Anyway, Bashar shouldn't hurry to join the Champions Trophy ignoring the injury. It might be more costly for him due to carelessness! Though he miss the CT, he should be patient and wait to be fully cure as WC is more important event for him as well as for our country. Best of luck-our captain. We will be praying for you.

I am ready for Shariar Nafees. Make him the youngest captain for the ODI's.

Bashar's absence is not just a 'hit below the belt' for BD's batting strength... it is also a moral setback for the team. And as seen in the African tour... when Bashar is not there.. the other 'senior players(including aftab group)' starts to play as if they are in a picnic. Not sure why that happens.. but this 'picnic mood' ultimately costs the whole team a lot.
Without Bashar, BD's Champ Trophy chances will probably reduce to 50% of what it could have been. Too bad!

I appreciate bashar's contribution.... and I realize bashar's role in the team to stabilize the team.
But for me .... Life goes on... with or without Bashar. This opend opportunity to other players in newer roles as long as their names are not Alok, Gullu or Ashraful.
Who know we will find some new gems in the dirt that will be part of our future team. So I am not that much worried like some of you: with or without bashar, we are going top loose most of the games anyway... its not that Bashar will single handedly win us some games.

Are we going to find a new face who will win the game for us?
If the answer is yes, who is that player?
If the answer is no, then why should we not play Bashar if he is fit as he is the captain and one of the most successful and experienced player?

If Bashar is fit, nobody is suggesting replacing Bashar. So the issue is non-issue here.
But if he is not fit, there no point of worring about that. we will have to see who take advantge of the situation. In that case, Your question/concern is premature here as no one can really predict the future here. May be we will find some one may be not.... we will see.
But what I am not ready to do, is start worring too much. Beacuse I personally think, Bashar is a essential player in our team but not necessarily a match winner player anymore.

Forget the CT jinx. Bashar should do whatever is in the best interest of the team in the long run. Our goal is to be impressive in the WC. The cricket world and us fans will be forgiving of a CT fiasco if they put up a decent show in WI next year.
