New York bank 'bomb plot' foiled: A Bangladeshi arrested for plotting the attack.
US officials have arrested a man for plotting to detonate what he thought was a massive bomb in front of the Federal Reserve building in New York.
Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, 21, of Bangladesh, travelled to the US with the intent of planning a terrorist attack, the FBI said.
Mr Nafis was arrested after he allegedly attempted to detonate what he thought was a 1,000lb (454kg) bomb.
There was never a threat, the FBI said, as Mr Nafis had been closely watched.

Hope he gets the electric chair.....
Bangladesh government meantime should investigate the source of funding and arrest and punish everyone involved. Also use every possible diplomatic means to restore a positive image of bangladesh....
The damage he caused to the image of bangladesh is immense....

What a shame. It's all over the news now here in nyc. We are slowly but surely becoming a terrorist country. This will damage our reputation here in US severely.

Putting aside the shameful act, it kind of made me chuckle how he went after a financial institution, as if the US isn't already knee deep in **** financially.

Hello Department of Homeland Security, every time you walk in and out of the US.
The US was actually giving out 5 year multiple entry visas to Bangladeshis quite normally past 2 years. Now we'll see what happens.

Just saw the news on Japanese TV, he had student visa as they say. Since he is 21 years old, I guess, he must have got there very recently, yet went for executing such heinous act which must have took considerable time for plan and prepare. Means what the hell he intended to study there? Was there any intention of study at all infact?
Yes, what a waste of a young life, but grave concern is the mind, the logic behind that not only justify such act but actually work for materialize! These holy crusade knights [minds] are not born and raised in 'Mars', rather just around us BD people too, which we should be well aware of.

There are many justifications used by people who support depraved acts. Just follow the news; a 14 year old child activist is shot in Pakistan in an act drawing universal condemnation, and yet some people are trying to justify it by claiming she was being groomed by CIA etc etc
A common "logic" that may be used in such cases is " they started it when they attacked us; now it is natural there will be reaction against them"....

| | | Thu, Oct 18th, 2012 9:01 am BdST | | |

Yeah, needs to find out where he is from, his college or university, lets here out his family and neighbour. Media needs to go deep and follow up these news to let people know how and why these minds grow up in society. It wont take long to become 'Talebanized' if BD media do not dig deep.

While en route to his target, authorities say, Nafis detailed how his jihadist views were -- at least in part -- formed by watching video sermons by American-born al Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who was killed last year by a U.S. drone strike in Yemen.
Nafis was a student majoring in cybersecurity at Southeast Missouri State University from January to May of this year, said Ann Hayes, a spokeswoman for the university.

Whatever is banned/hated worldwide seems to eventually find it's way to Bangladesh. Banned mosquito sprays, horse feed disguised as daal, Yaba, match fixing, extra judicial killing etc etc the list goes on and on. It's really depressing to wake up every morning and realize that everyday the bad news always outweigh the good news in our country. I guess I shouldn't be surprised if religious extremism also finds it's there much in the same way it started in Pakistan.

The root cause is poverty, lack of education, unfair distribution of wealth etc.
Unless we find a visionary leader for our country, I don't see any bright future ahead of us.
With "desh-netri er jatir konna" what else you expect??

lol, It's strange how the whole country is basically ruled by two families who take it as their God given right to do whatever they pleased to it.

Good luck to all the other Bangladeshi students in that university and in US in general.
Best of luck to those who just applied.
