Is this for real? Both are different players and are thus suited for their own kind of play.
I would pick ashwin in subcontinent conditions, while shakib would be preferred for overseas.

Check the stats posted in OP. Quite close, hence the thread.

Yes...you should go further and bring stats for home and away.
Shakib has been ranked the #1 test Allrounder for quite some time now.
My ambivalence is based on the fact that ashwin Is a better player in subcontinent conditions...give him good support and he'll get you the goods.
Shakib has proven to be the more resilient in overseas conditions with minimal support from his fellow mates.
If you elaborate more on the stats, perhaps I'll make a decision. But for now, I'll stick to my original choices

Ashwin has had a lot of match winning performances.
But i still think Sakib is better, just that he never had any performance to boast because his team was always on the losing side. Give Shakib square turners and you would see

Ashwin = Bowling-all rounder (not genuine)
Shakib = Both batting and bowling all-rounder (Genuine)
Shakib is in a different league when it comes to current genuine all-rounder's (if there are any)

I believe Shakib is more talented but as he plays for BD There very low chance of a match winning performance.
Which is not the case for Ashwin
Still I will vote for Shak

Ashwin CANNOT be classified as a test allrounder. A decent spinner who can bit a bit. Thats about it. Even Abul hassan has a century in test.

Would like to see how shakib does on square turners, all he ever gets are flat pitches. On current form I think Ashwin is better in tests.

Lol at people saying sakib is better overseas. His batting is piss poor in overseas condition specially in Test matches. Bowling not special either outside bangladesh

Bring the stats and we'll be more enlightened and your statement will be vindicated.
PS. That's of him vs shakib. Overseas and domestic.

In England, sakib averaging 13, 9 and 7.5 respectively in tests ODIs and T20s with the bat. As a bowler he is averaging 34+, 37+ and 23+ With not mention worthy strike rate. I think piss poor is an understatement.
In south africa, sakib averaging 11.50, 34 and 11.83 with the bat. With the ball he is averaging 20.81, 57.71 and 17.12. So batting was ok in ODIs but poor in test and t20s.
In new zealand, shakib averaging 77.60, 21.42 and 3 with batting. With the ball he is averaging 59 and 25.84. No wickets in T20. So you can see only respected average is on tests courtasy to a century on a dead hamilton pitch where Mahmudullah looked like Bradman. Batted like a headless chicken and fluked his way to century.
In Australia (only ODIs) , shakib is averaging 24.85 with the bat and 38.83 with the ball. Not so world class eh?
Excluding zimbabwe because they are minnows. And west indies because he played there against a nothing team. Shakib's batting record outside Asia is pathetic to say the least. Bowling is nothing special eother. His back to back 5ers against south africa in a test series is probably the only worthy performance although he bowled sh!t loads of overs and strike rate was nothing to boast about.

Well the unfortunate thing for Shakib is his last away test vs anyone bar Zimbabwe or the WI was in 2010 or something wasnt it? Not really got much to judge him on in that regard.
For me, Ashwin is better bowling wise but Shakib is better batting wise without a doubt. Depends on the situation when deciding between the two really, too close to call.
But since Ashwin is sitting lonely on no votes I'll throw him a bone.

^^ Ok so can we make a comparison with ashwin now to keep with the thread?
And being the #1 ranked Allrounder in the world is considered to be something above your level of judgement which is considered to be piss poor.
So the question comes to this?
Who is the better bowling Allrounder?
Who is the better batting allrounder?
Who is the better allrounder overall?
In tests?

Not trying to take anything away from him but Shakib is no1 allrounder because we play a lot at home and he is a monster at home tracks specially mirpur. But outside asia he has been pathetic to say the least. Ashwin actually got match saving centuries against australia in australia. I have no intention to compare both because i think they are different type of players and playing crucial roles for their respective teams. I just wanted to point out that sakib being superior than ashwin outside asia is not true. If anything they both suck outside asia. So next time do some research and use less imagination before you post.

I'm not taking anything away from both players, they are important part of their teams. One might say that given on his day, ashwin is better than shakib and vice versa.
Research wise, I can't put a number on these guys. They are proven performers.
The second bolded sentence I might have to agree with you...there is no really solid performance by shakib besides his bowling feats in SA and WI. That was long long ago. And I remember his century in NZ.
I'll end this here. I understand wht you werr trying to explain. Both suck outside Asia.

5/10 with the bat
Shakib 7/10 with bowl
8/10 with bat

The truth is we can play a home series without Shakib and still can make it a draw or won series. India currently may not be able to do it without Ashwin.
India very recently started to win test overseas. So the sample size is too small to compare.

Ashwin is a better bowler but no one expects him to carry the burden of scoring runs but Shakib on the other hand has to carry the burden or both taking wickets and score runs. While Kallis and Watson was still in picture, you had 3 genuines all-rounder playing. But after Kallis retired and Watson out of the picture, Shakib is the only genuine left today.

Ravindra Jadeja will continue to get five wicket hauls on those spinning pitches though

Clearly shows Donal Cozzie has more cricket sense than most in this forum (after me). Also shows neutrals always rate Ashwin as a better all rounder.

Out of your stats Shakib 4 - Ashwin 2.
Who is the dumb one?

^^What would you expect Austin? You created a thread in a Bangladesh cricket forum beseeching people to vote for a Indian or a Bangladeshi. Most people would vote for the Bangladeshi with their eyes close.

Its not an eye closed pick, people have good reasons why they would pick shakib. And if you look at the who will qualify thread there are plenty who are ready to pick non BD options if those options deserve it.
