1) Bradman's 99 test ave (Cricket).

2) Hank Aaron's 755 home runs (Baseball).

3) Pele's 100 1st class goals in 10 consecutive years(Football).

4) Jerry Rice holding 38 NFL records. (Dan Marino had 25 NFL records and 5 tie still 8 short).

5) Jack's 18 majors (W. Hagen 11, Tiger 10) (Golf - This one is iffy. Tiger has time to catch this one.)

6) Byron Nelson's 18 win season (1945) with 11 consecutive PGA wins (consider this: Tiger only won 6 consecutive PGA in 1999 and 2000 with total of 8 and 9. No current player has more than 3 wins in a row) (Golf). Another record that will never fall is his 65 consecutive top ten finishes. The second is Tigers 10 consecutive top ten finish in 2002-03 - Simply laughable, no one even came any closer in the history of the game.

7) Wilt Chamberline's 100 points in game. 118 games with 50+ points, 14 consecutive games of 40+ points, 65 consecutive games with 30+ points, 126 consecutive games with 20+ points. In 1961-62 season he averaged 50.4 points a game. His Career life-time rebound average is 22.9 per game. In one game he had 51 rebounds, the next game he had 49. Never fouled out on single game in his entire career (NBA). These records are way up with Bradman's.

8) Bill Russell:NBA champion (1957, '59, '60, '61, '62, '63, '64, '65, '66, '68, '69).

9) Michael Jordan: 28 game winning shots in NBA. 6 NBA Finals MVP. Finals average 41 points in 1993. Playoffs average 33.4 per game. Career average 30.1 all records.

11) Lance Armstrong's 7 consecutive Tour-de-France victory. He was diagnosed testicular-cancer in 1993. After enduring surgery and debilitating chemotherapy he joined the ranks of the almost 10 million other cancer survivors in America. He won his 1st tour-de-france in 1999. The toughest among everyone mentioned in this list.

12) Nolan Ryan dominated hitters for an unparalleled 27 seasons on his way to 5,714 strikeouts, an all-time record. Most notable of his milestones are a mystifying seven no-hitters and 12 one-hitters. The eight-time All-Star fanned a single-season record 383 batters in 1973, and his career strikeouts encompassed 1,176 different players.

13) Mark Spitz - 7 swimming gold medals in one Olympic (1972).

23) Cricket: SR Tendulkar: Class of his own. In oneday cricket he not only made the records books but made it in such a way that noone can touch those numbers while he is living. 39 centuries, 72 half centuries, 14,146 runs and counting. Second nearest active player has 20 centuries.

Federer has long ways to go. Either he wins French open or he takes over Pete only then he can get in.
Bonds, I have reservation on him. His trainer, and conte all got sentenced and all he says that he did not know about the cream? He was a Hall of famer even if he never used any kind of enhancement drugs. He didn't need to use anything. Its like if Maradona broke Pele's record. Everyone would put an asterisk beside it. But if you guys want him in the list he can be #13.

How about Sergi Bubka's record of setting record in polevault? I am not sure how many times he sat record but probabbly 18 times. Also Steffi Graf (My Fab) for achieving Golden Slam (Grand Slam + Olympic Gold) in 1988 worth mentioning.

11. Gavaskar scored 36 in a 60 over one day match againest England in the Prudenticial World Cup 1975.

Warne does not have 700 yet. And even if he has it, Murali will shatter it I believe.

Peyton M has started to break Marino's records but I still have doubt he will get close to Jerry Rice. I was just mentioning Dan to show how far the second in competition was from Jerry. A quarterback has more categories (in the record books) than a running back or a wide receiver. Jerry Rice owns the wide receiver record book.

Gavaskar's slowest scoring rate is an ODI record that no one wants to break. So it will stand forever. Its like Taposh Baisa's 86 runs in 7 overs record performance against England in ODI. Noone (bowlers) wants to break it. Thats why its not up there.

# 2, # 5 may get broken but only time will tell. The rest in our life time we will not see to be equaled even. Juiced up bonds is still 40 something short. Tiger will have cubs and that will slow him down.

I am a Emmit smith fan. I know he holds the record of rushing yards but when all said and done there are few players who were and are better than him.

Jim Brown: early retirement going to Hollywood at 29. He would have easily crossed 20000 yards. Just so that you know, Brown earned 13 letters at Manhasset High School in New York State playing football, baseball, basketball, lacrosse, and running track.

Barry Sanders: arguable the best back ever to play the game with breath taking moves. Also retired early because of Lions not releasing him. (he wanted to play with a winning team and they wouldn't let him go. contract issue) If only he had the Dallas O-line he would cross 25k easy.

LT: He will take over the record books in near future.

One key issue that you have to consider abt running backs is their durability. They are lots of rb's that you can name that could've break the record but usually rb's don't last very long. The fact that Emmit Played all these years without any major injury is just amazing. You just don't see that. Do you remember the game against giants when he played with a broken shoulder? John Madden said that was the greatest and most courageous performance by an RB.

The only two records that is somewhat untouchable by Emmitt Smith is 164 touchdowns (NFL record) and 5 touchdowns in 3 Superbowls. Both records are heavily depended upon the Big-bad Dallas offensive line, Troy, Erving, Harper and Dallas defense. He was the most dependable short yardage back in the history of the game.

Emmitt Smith: In his 15 years career had only 2 individual award. 1993 league and Superbowl MVP. 4 times rushing champ 1991-93 and 95. 3 times TD leader in a season. 1000 yards in a 10 year span. But never had a 1800+ rushing season or a 200 yard rushing game.

Jim Brown: 9 years played in NFL and in his prime (age:29) went to hollywood to persue acting career. 8 of those years 57-61, 63-65 rushing champ. 4 MVP awards 57,58, 63,64. His career ave 5.22 per carry is an truely untouchable stat. He had 4 200+ yard games.

Barry Sanders: MVP 91,97. 2000 rushing in a season (97), 14 consecutive 100 yards rushing game (NFL record) in a season, 4 times rushing champ 90,94,96-97, 4 times had 200+ games. He was in a sorry Detroit team with a sorry offensive line and a sorry defense.

OJ simpson, Walter Payton and Earl Campbell have more NFL records than Emmitt in NFL. Statwise he doesnot compare to the all time great running backs but durable wise and big-heart wise he was the best.

Great find!! Certainly he deserves the nod. I will put it up there. 39 ODI centuries is mind boggling. Nearest active rival to challenge that is Ponting with 20. Ganguly has 22 but out of the team; S Anwar had 20, Lara and Jayasuriya has 19.
