Bill Gates' Favorite Teacher- A Bangladeshi Youngman!
This guy is a Bangladeshi! Part of the article:
'Like so many entrepreneurial epiphanies, Khan's came by accident. Born and raised in New Orleans -- the son of immigrants from India and what's now Bangladesh -- Khan was long an academic star. With his MBA from Harvard, he has three degrees from MIT: a BS in math and a BS and a master's in electrical engineering and computer science. He also was the president of his MIT class and did volunteer teaching in nearby Brookline for talented children, as well as developed software to teach children with ADHD. What he doesn't know he picks up from endless reading and cogitation: His gift, like that of many teachers, is being able to reduce the complex. "Part of the beauty of what he does is his consistency," says Gates. Of Khan's capacity to teach, Gates, who says he spends considerable time trying to help his three kids learn the basics of math and science, tells Fortune, "I kind of envy him." '

Khan academy recently got $2million part of Google's Project 10^100 to support the creation of more courses, to allow for translation of the Khan Academy's content, and to allow for the hiring of additional staff.
Where are you from? What ethnicity/religion are you?
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Lousiana. My mother was born in Calcutta, India. My father was born in Barisal, Bangladesh.
If you believe in trying to make the best of the finite number of years we have on this planet (while not making it any worse for anyone else), think that pride and self-righteousness are the cause of most conflict and negativity, and are humbled by the vastness and mystery of the Universe, then I'm the same religion as you.

He is probably not going to do it himself. (I didn't read the link as I can barely read bangla myself). According to his Translation Project he is looking for volunteers to translate it to as many language as possible:
Quote:
Help Educate the World!
Our mission is to provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere. With that said, Sal only speaks English (and very barely passable Bengali) which can only reach 400 million of the 6 billion people on this planet (don't think English is spoken much off the planet). With your help, we might be able to reach the other 5.6 billion people. Let's translate the Khan Academy into all of the world's languages!
If you feel that you are capable of dubbing a video or even re-doing videos in a non-English language, here's a chance to become a hero and minor celebrity to your people. More importantly, it is a tangible opportunity to leverage your skills and talents to seriously change the world in a very good way. For all we know, students 500 years from now may be learning negative numbers from YOU! Frankly, this might even be the best possible way to preserve languages that are otherwise being threatened by "Englishization"!

You are right. On his interview with PA, he mentioned that he is looking for volunteers in order to translate his videos in Bangla. Moreover, all his videos are under the open source licence, so anyone can download/redistribute them anytime. Also, he won 2 million dollar prize money from Google and he can use that money to hire some hands.
The more I read about this guy, the more I feel a positive energy inside myself. A true Alchemist he is (and I'm just the pretender). Here's the email address to volunteer for the project: translations@khanacademy.org

The wikipedia page on Salman Khan used to show that he's of 'Pakistani Origin' before!
When Ragib bhai(one of the wikipedia admins from Bangladesh) tried to modify that part, he had a fight with a Pakistani (who was trying to prove that Salman is a Pakistani).
Thanks to Ragib bhai. The updated wiki page shows the correct info now.

This deserves a mention. Thanks for making us proud. Not sure why it took so long to mention...

Salman Khan
Educator

Jamie Chung for TIME
Like a lot of great innovators, Salman Khan didn't set out to change the world. He was just trying to help his teenage cousin with her algebra from across the country. But from a closet turned office in his Silicon Valley apartment, Sal, 35, has produced an amazing library of online lectures on math, science and a host of other subjects. In the process, he has turned the classroom — and the world of education — on its head.
The aspiration of khanacademy.org is to give every kid a chance at a free, world-class education. The site has over 3,000 short lessons that allow kids to learn at their own pace. Practice exercises send students back to the pertinent video when they're having trouble. And there's a detailed dashboard for teachers who use Khan Academy in their classrooms.
Early pilot programs in California classrooms show terrific promise. I've used Khan Academy with my kids, and I'm amazed at the breadth of Sal's subject expertise and his ability to make complicated topics understandable.
Sal Khan is a true education pioneer. He started by posting a math lesson, but his impact on education might truly be incalculable. Gates is an entrepreneur and philanthropist and a co-founder of Microsoft
