Best Year Ever?
I know, there is still a month left and this series is still young, but overall, is 2012 the best year ever for us? Overall?
Things like reaching the 2nd round of world cup, or reaching the world cup is significant in terms of milestone, but not for overall performance over the entire year.
We started to beat the G8 more regularly than ever before, at least in ODI.

3 out of 5 against top oppositions? Not bad!

And the encouraging thing is, we could have easily won all 5. Or at least 4.

Could have been a lot better if we had played against more top opposition.

We hardly even played Cricket this year so I don't understand how this can be our best year probably 2010 where we had tremendous performances i.e. back to back 100s, more centuries and series win over New Zealand and Zimbabwe even beating England in a game.

We beat World Cup Champion, Runners up and World T20 Champion. So how do you compare it back to back century which was only individual performance? But we are playing now as a team.

Tough question. Will answer this, once the series is over.
Because, the main focus for this year has been on the T20's and we failed horribly.

If we take 5-0, it might just be. If we'd won the Asia Cup, it already would've been.

Well, this year we have established ourselves as one of the top guns in international cricket (both Tests and ODIs), so yes, probably the best year ever. We haven't beaten Pakistan, but we all know we would have had it not been for Cheema cheating.

-CI made no splash when we beat them last night
-We got no banner
-Win feels drab
So all these negatives are signs of a good progress.

2006 leading up to WC 07
We played 4 tests and had a legitimate chance to win 2 of them. Didn't lose Holland or Scotland, won all our ODI's against the lower ranked teams. Fast tracked Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiqur ... all into the Nat team.

Agreed. Although I wasn't really following BD cricket closely back than prior to the WC07, but that 2nd term w/ Dev did take us to the next level. WC camp followed by WC was one of the best journeys. Although we were still very inconsistent. And we didn't play much Test, and there was no T20.
So based on consistency this year is lot better, at least in ODIs. We're 6-2. We can make it 9-2 and end the year there. T20 results just hurt the overall performance.

Lets wait until the end of the year and this series to make a decision on ODIs....
We were poor in T 20 s and in tests we lost all even to Zim...so that's definitely Bad.

Seriously... some people have literally no idea about cricket. Reading their judgement of where BD is as a cricket nation and what represents good, is simply amazing.
Winning a series, after series, is way more important than winning an odd match here and there - regardless of who it is. Any team can be beaten the odd time. But to win against the same opposition consistently (series wins) are a measure that progression is being made.
After that, consistent series wins against sides close to you, is the next step up the ladder. Then the odd series win against a Top 4 side is the step above that. Finally, winning equally against Top 4 sides - as Eng, Aus, Ind and SA does with each other - is the sign you are a world team.
Even the top sides lose so it isn't a shock for low ranked sides to win sometimes against them.

Well said Ian.
On this thread:Wining 4 out of 6 matches in a year is a good achievement and guess what!We won against India, SL and the WI twice now. Heck of a good performance. I will back the Tigers to win the series and head on for a Banglawash. I can smell it.

Judging the 3 formats:
Tests : inconslusive due to only 2 home tests and that against the #7 team. Showed promise but also showed the typical mental folding when it counted.
T20: Miserable with all the preparation and failing to reach 2nd round in WC as well as a triseries involving Zimbabwe
ODI: Most definitely. Reaching the finals over IND and SL and almost winning it all or possibly being undefeated was a biggie. Taking the first 2 games vs. WI (and not some dead rubber match) is also impressive and beyone what we are used to. Albiet all of them are home ODIs, it is still significant. The WI wins are even more impressive as they are the defending champions of a limited overs format. It is important to note that in this format we have won our last engagements with IND, ENG, NZ, WI, SL, ZIM, IRE, NED; thats 8 of the other ranked 11 ODI teams.

We should revisit this thread after the series is over. So far, however, it looks like, at least at home, we can compete with G8 sides on a regular basis which is a positive. Before, we'd play great 1 match and then all of a sudden, fall off. Nowadays, it seems like we can string good performances game after game again at least at home in ODI's.

People are forgetting that Bangladesh were badly knocked out of World T20 Championship and before then lost to Trinidad and Tobago and other weak teams like Scotland and the Netherlands so some year.

I guess the lack of understanding of the game on display here is indeed quite appalling. There should be no doubt that 2010/2011 was the best season in our cricket, where we won 10/14 games, pushed the World Champions in a WC game before falling only a tad short and the players began to believe in themselves and play as a unit. All this without a good batting/HC coach.
