Quoting myself from another thread.

No.3 is a specialist position. Naeem won't be a solution here too. Basically he is a good middle order batsman who comes in no.5 or no.6 position for his divisional team in NCL. While playing for the A team, he used to play in this position too. I am afraid until someone good for this position arises, we have to bear Ash. Sad but true.

Definitely he can be dropped. But the truth is he won't be. Please don't think that I am in favor of bearing him. But the truth is he will not be dropped.

yeah the answer is too easy. Not only that, even if Ash is not dropped/rested, Naeem should still play. The possible replacement should either be Shahriar or Imrul or one of the 3 pacers. Naeem can still play in number 7/8. So either Shahriar or Imrul will open. I also think that we need a full time spinner in the next test apart from Shakibul. My suggestion would be to drop shahriar or Imrul and include Naeem in 7/8 order. Drop one pacer and inlude a full time spinner like Enamul/Suhruwardi or whoever. You cannot rely on Shakib all the time to do the spinning job.

Who can replace him as a succesful middle order batsman??
With the assmption thet the next player will get equal number of games to prove his worth or worthlessness....
and with the threshold is already set so low (to be considered equally successful as Ashraful)....
I think almost anyone whoever is successful in local league for two consicutive years or so...

I voted for Shuvo because I think Naem should be in already for Raqibul. He needs a break.

Or how about we give Ash license to hit...he could score a lot of quick runs that way...rather being too defensive with no use as he gets out anyways!!!

When Ash try to play sensibly, he gets out of an unplayable delivery.
When we will give him the license to hit, he will get out of a 4 ball.
You lose either way.

in this case he can play at no9-11 positions. Tailenders are always allowed to boom booming.

Ash really looked shaky and confused in 3rd day's match. I think mentally, he is having hard time finding himself- should he play sensibly or hit every ball; should he follow coach's instruction or his own instinct. I feel pitty for him. Unless he finds himself, eventually he will be dropped and make a way to many new talented players. Remember Sehwag was having problem with his form, then he was given license to hit every ball, even in Tests without any liability. Now he has become quite effective. Should Ash follow the same path or should the management/coach allow him to do that? That should be debatable, but of course Ash ain't Sehwag- Ash is Ash. I never favor of changing a player's natural style. It takes away the essense of a player and what he has trained for all his life. Afridi can never become a sensible player and at the same time our Rokibul can never become a big hitter. Like they say- you cannot teach an old dog a new trick. You can only rectify problems here and there.

Rajin. It's time to move on from the Ash era and move in to the Riyad era.

Apart from everything- Naeem should definitely play in the 2nd test. I don't care if it is at the cost of Shahriar, Imrul, Rokibul, Ash, Rubel or Shafiul.

I am just plain sick of heraing these names, Ash, SN...the sooner I can forget these names and do not pronounce them scum's names in the same breath, same sentence where I say current Bangladesh cricket, the better for me and the Tigers!
And yeah, I saw all the hard work, glory work, grand innings that them 2 played for BD in the past....That's then and Now is now and in between a LOT of wasted time and opportunities flew by and nothing but sh!t has been produced! The natiional team of a test playing country, a test team is not a soup kitchen, open for all, "Comon bhais, please take a seat"....And for the past I think we should respect the great players for their contribution and effort that they put in, and I still believe in that, I will respect you Ash, SN in a museum, in the hall of fame gallery, but I am not going to hold my words, bite my tongue while you fruitcakes play like morons in a present context and as a result the team is losing and the test status of the team and all sorts of other things are being questioned!!
We need to move on, now and quick, period!
And there is something else I must say here, Ash and SN, when people criticize their public behaviour, action, comments, we sometimes jump on them people to say it is not right to critisize these players, they need some breathing room and all! Therer is a problem here, Ash, SN, these men are involved in a public service type, glamourous, media attention seeking career, when you do that, you have to be ready to give everything up, no personal life, can not take it? Go hide in the hills of Bandarbon! If you can't take the heat, don't crowd the fudging kitchen, if you know what I mean! When you do well, you will be glorified and when you CONSTANTLY fail, you will be vilified! Simple as that! Let's move on!
Nadstar, I didn't even vote here...I say bring everybody, I would play someone from the u-19 team instead of these 2 fools that I have mentioned here! And we have a lot of guys waiting in line, believe me!

there are a number of solutions, riyad or rahim could be pushed up the order and someone else brought in down the order (a bowling allrounder or specialist bowler). the other thing to do is to drop both SN and ash. SN hasn't played FC cricket for a long time and it's silly to think he's ready at this point. drop SN and ash, move raqibul to #3, move riyad up the order, bring naeem into the middle order and bring shuvo in as the #2 spinner (strenghten's the bowling and the batting). the other thing to do is to drop SN and ash but move riyad and rahim up the order but for that you really need a genuine allround for your #7 spot (which BD don't have other than shakib) and another specialist bowler for #8.

Don't know much about Shuvo so can't comment on him. Apart from that agree with everything you've said.
