I believe it stands for Federation of Bangladeshi Associations (in) North America. They have these events every year if I am not wrong. Often they are mired in BNP-AL disputes. At times there are even parallel events going on sponsored by the rival groups. sigh! I do however have one pleasant memory of the one that was held in Montreal. I got to watch James in a concert!

this one will have some big name bd artists this year. This would be my first time and thanks for reminding me that there may be a bnp/al spat depending on who is where. It's sad really, how can anyone in their right mind support any of these groups ? I heard about troubles in one of the previous fobana's.
the website is fobana2004.com. If you want to find out who is coming. Prof Younis and Hilary Clinton are listed in their flyers as well as artists like Baby Naznin, Alamgir (my fav), Rafiqul Alam, Shakila Jafar, Subir Nandi, Hassan (?) etc.

That paki alamgir is not paki at all. He went to mirzapur cadet college and comes often to sing for mcc reunion. I have met him in reunion. He sings very well (not lipsyncing), real on stage singing
I don't think he goes to paki anymore. He is parmenantly in Bangladesh now, afaik.

the bangla-paki alamgir with "tomra bhule gecho mollikader naam..." and all, that's the one I like.
I also like Fakir Alamgir (may be not the sakhina song but he's got some others).

I hope to be their, but more so hope to tactically avoid the BNP-AL bickering (daytime), and just attend the cultural stuff (night-time).
Tehsin, wear a Banglacricket cap or something, so that I recognize you
And I'll put on my -------- hat !!
Cheers, and may all Bengalees have a good time.
