Default Looking back to 1971 : The song of Bangladesh

Please watch the song.

And here's the lyrics,

Quote:
SONG OF BANGLADESH
(Words and Music by Joan Baez)

Bangladesh, Bangladesh
Bangladesh, Bangladesh
When the sun sinks in the west
Die a million people of the Bangladesh

The story of Bangladesh
Is an ancient one again made fresh
By blind men who carry out commmands
Which flow out of the laws upon which nation stands
Which is to sacrifice a people for a land

Bangladesh, Bangladesh
Bangladesh, Bangladesh
When the sun sinks in the west
Die a million people of the Bangladesh

Once again we stand aside
And watch the families crucified
See a teenage mother's vacant eyes
As she watches her feeble baby try
To fight the monsoon rains and the cholera flies

And the students at the university
Asleep at night quite peacefully
The soldiers came and shot them in their beds
And terror took the dorm awakening shrieks of dread
And silent frozen forms and pillows drenched in red

Bangladesh, Bangladesh
Bangladesh, Bangladesh
When the sun sinks in the west
Die a million people of the Bangladesh

Did you read about the army officer's plea
For donor's blood? It was given willingly
By boys who took the needles in their veins
And from their bodies every drop of blood was drained
No time to comprehend and there was little pain

And so the story of Bangladesh
Is an ancient one again made fresh
By all who carry out commands
Which flow out of the laws upon which nations stand
Which say to sacrifice a people for a land

Bangladesh, Bangladesh
Bangladesh, Bangladesh
When the sun sinks in the west
Die a million people of the Bangladesh

I know we have a thread on what we are listening now, but I think this song deserves a separate thread.

I don't know whether it was posted before. If posted, moderators please merge it with the previous thread.

Sounds like a communist war song.

Hmm...let me focus on some words here:

Sinks
Die
Anchient
Crucified
Vacant
Feeble
Cholera
Dread
Frozen
Drenched
Blood
Pain

Actually, it sounds like a loser's song. Nothing but negatives.

Pundit, if it was a song of 2007, I would have appreciated your observation, but the timing was different and the scenario hardly had any positives.

Another quote from Miraz from another thread:

I have to correct the information about my favorite restaurant from Fazal's list.

Samarkhand : It only serves buffet and hardly has any Deshi dishes. Serves Indian, Pakistani, Mediterranean dishes and Kebabs. Excellent for family programs. Lunch time buffet is not special, try to get the taste of dinner buffet which has about 5-7 more dishes.

================================================== =====================

I respect you for not trying to marginalize me atleast like the more cowardly Chinaman and Arnab with their edit priviledges.

But really, when we have long discussions around best restaurants in Dhaka from board members, I really cannot help but begin to think that some of them are flukes. With so many poor people in Bangladesh...yeah, let me talk about my favorite expensive restaurant.

I don't know what is happening with pundit, but I think the song Joan Baez (post 1) is the most emotional song (sung by a foreigner) about our liberation war.

by using Double DES and meet-in-the-middle attack I got this after decryption:

whoever related to BC(mods, editors, staff etc) and listen to this kind of songs (Looking back to 1971 : The song of Bangladesh by Joan Baez or Moushumi Bhowmik's Jessore Road) are communist hence they have no rights to dine in expensive restaurant like Samarkhand!!

Orphy- I have a paypal ac and only accept CAD

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread.

Here's another song. I guess most of you have heard it before.

Jessore Road by Moushumi Bhowmik.

Lyric

Actually, Pundit is just jealous that he is unable to experience the culinary brilliance at these restaurants. Why don't you pay him that $5 instead, and help him change that?

Better yet, give it to some road side kiddo so that he can eat their instead, or buy a shirt, or whatever.

AS: You were born in Ontario, but spent much of your childhood in Bangladesh. How did that come about, and how has it affected the way you approach life in the band and beyond?
AK: My parents moved to Bangladesh in 1987 as Baptist missionaries, so being 4 years old, I naturally went with them. It's definitely had a profound influence on the way I look at the world. And of course, it'd influence any kid to experience multiple cultures, but I was there through dictatorship, political uprising, new democracy... I mean, how many Canadian kids have gotten bucked off a water buffalo, gone to Hindu and Muslim wedding festivals, seen the house across from theirs get torched by an angry mob, or watched a gun fight from the roof of a church? It wasn't always fun, but I feel like I've got a wider, better experience of the world for having been exposed to everything I was. I'm really grateful my parents took my siblings and I there. If I'd lived back in Canada, I doubt I'd have been inspired to do half of the things I have.http://www.falseheroics.com/mp3/shonarbangla-falseheroics.mp3
Interesting The music is pretty good I must admit.

maybe this should have gone to current music thread....

Why? The last time i checked Bangladeshis usually suffer from patla paykhana or gas more than constipation.

I've always thought the national anthem should have been "Prothom Bangladesh amar shesh Bangladesh". The current national anthem refers to the land as "Bangla", but that could mean Orissa and/or Kolkata and/or parts of Tripura. Besides, with all due respect to the Kobi Guru, it wasn't written by a Bangladeshi.

Not just that, but I also feel "Prothom Bangladesh" does a better job of instilling a sense of pride, more so with its tune than its words, than the current anthem.

Shoot me. Come on baby.

Hey Asif, a lot of people have similar sentiments as yours but I am not gonna go into it. Just out of curiosity, did you hear the song I posted? It is "amar shonar bangla" with a different tune... it's awesome dude!

I wanna know what others think about it.

I am quoting myself because I figured no one listened to this yet. This obviously doesn't belong here. Not a single reply or did you guys already hear this before? I doubt.
