Match report - Ash thought the match was lost
http://www.espncricinfo.com/other/co...ry/489166.html
How does a 20/20 captain think a match was lost with 5 wickets left & RRR so low?
Frankly, I thought this was a thrilling game, but the both team's batsmen were swinging their bats like they were playing baseball. I have never seen such atrocious batting even in local club matches. Bangladeshi batsmen seemed to have forgotten all batting techniques, and tried to copy the free swing and miss batting of the Afghans.
Sabbir has tremendous determination in his eyes. There is no stopping this kid. He is the next piece of the puzzle.

The scoreboard never tilted to the point where it was unrealistic to win. Any sportsman is a loser if he thinks we would lose until it is impossible to win.

Most of the people in BC lost hope after the 14th/15th over. Shabbir didn't do well in the last two game. Naeem is slow. Nasir the next batsmen who didn't get to bat in the first two games.
He didn't lost hope. He was tensed like everyone else. And he was being honest about it.

most of BC members thought lose was certain...given our history of losing against associates.
but yeah the RRR never exceeded 9, which can be overcome in ODI cricket, so it was a bit premature to think we would lose. but most fans thought we were gonna lose. i myself thought so once Hom and Dickens got out, but still held hope that Naeem would smash a couple sixes.
the game was always 2 sixes away...

It doesn't matter what BC members think. We're fans with close to zero direct impact on the game (unless players' performances are impacted by fan-pressure, in which case the said players must be *whipped*). But a captain shouldn't give up when there isn't much reason to.
I've never thought of Ashraful as a sissy, but more of a loser who doesn't function too well mentally (not mentally challenged, he understands the game well but just has no mental-physical coordination). Up to this day, I considered him a loser, but now he's put the label on himself - he is a sissy.
You can't really blame the fans for losing hope when the captain gives up.

Not even that Asad bhai it was only 1 six away. I didn't watch the gave so correct me if i'm wrong but we needed 19 runs from the last 2 overs right? so if they hit one six that brings it down to 13 runs from 11 delivery? If they can't score 13 from from 11 freaking deliveries against AFG, than they should just go jump off a bridge.

Well personally I'm still embarrassed we made such a mess out of what was supposed to be an easy run-chase against an Afghan side and believe they should still jump off the first floor balcony if not a bridge, but we did win Gold in the end, so I guess that's all that matters.

its T20...if netherlands can beat England (who won the world cup just 13 months later, mind you) than why can't Afghanistan (the equal top associate side along with Ireland) beat or run Bangladesh A close? and for the record we won by a fair margin of 5 wickets, although we could have won with 10-12 balls more to spare.
agree on Ash making a sissy comment...however, if you say BC fans have no impact on the game, Ash also had no impact on the game at the precise time he lost hope as he was already back in the hut. captain has much to do while fielding if he isn't bowling or keeping, but in batting, unless he's actually on strike he has zero impact on the game.
unless he told Hom, Roman, and Dickens "game's over just bat out the overs" as they crossed paths at FOW, then his idea is a just a personal "we're in some s**t now"...which may not have been true, but it wasn't false either.
you can't be successful if you can't even assess the situation, whether good or bad.

It doesn't matter what kind of cricket it is and it doesn't matter who did what - we should PWN Afghanistan regardless. In fact, we should always look to PWN anyone at any time.

It's not about assessing the situation and it's not about whether he had any impact on the game at that point of time. He said he was feeling low, but a good captain shouldn't feel low when you need 19 off 2. You'll never hear Shakib or Tamim say anything of the sort and they are the only winners in the country.
It isn't about the impact Ashraful's mindset had on the game at that particular instant - if it did we wouldn't win gold - all I'm saying is that a winner, especially a captain, doesn't feel low in difficult times, and Ashraful's attitude here didn't match that of a winner.

disagree. this means Netherlands has an equal chance of beating England in a 5-day Test match as they do in a 2-hour T20. not gonna happen.

Shakib and Tamim are on another dimension of existence: they are truly world class. I agree Ash and others should aspire to be that good, especially when innate ability is actually greater than theirs.
But at the same time, this is a case of walking into a Rolls Royce dealership and wondering why there are no cheap cars on display!
If Ash was Sakib or Tamim, he would not have gotten out till winning the game already.

here we don't know what he meant by "low". many times when our players say stuff and its gets transcribed by cricinfo, we are getting a very aproximate idea of what was said.
Did Mash really say he wants to lose 2 games to the ZIMs? Maybe, but i dont think so. His comment is still bad, but its not the blasphemy we've made it out to be. We're just an emotional bunch. I'm just as guilty as anyone else.
But did ash really say he felt "low"? I have a difficult time imagining Ash saying "uuhhhh....obveesly, i was feeling little bit low, but then shabbir won the game!"
or alternatively "amar ekto nicha nicha lagtesilo...tarpor shabbir miah match ta jitlo!"
hence, that word is an interpretation of whatever journo wrote that article.

The difference is, you dont admit that in public.
Just say, meh, never for a second we thought we were losing this match.
Despite few quick loss of wickets, our batsmen always knew what to do and how to get the game out of the opposition's hand. We knew we gonna prevail since we were the more experienced side...blah blah blah...
What you thought, keep it there in your head.

I think everyone gets scared/low/afraid whatever you want to call, and that's perfectly fine. But what separates you from everyone else is you don't let others figure out what's going on inside you. Even if he really was low deep down inside, he shouldn't blur it out like that. He should just be like I had faith in them, and there was still 2 overs left to go plenty of times to make things happen.

It doesn't matter if he said in public or not. The fact is that he was actually thinking that we were gonna lose. Really ash? Afghanistan could be dangerous but you should never think the game is lost when you got 19 runs from 12 balls. So people are saying that he should not have said that. It really doesn't matter. He actually thought we were gonna lose.

Ok Bangla version of the sentence:
"Ekta shomoi kisu ta chintai pore giyechilam"
Chintai pora ta ki game er baire? Ektu tensed to jei keu hoite pare.
