New Zealand battled to a two-wicket win over hosts Bangladesh, while Pakistan and Sri Lanka also enjoyed opening victories.
The Kiwis reached their target of 203 with just four balls and two wickets remaining.
All-rounder Sam McKay (40 not out) kept his cool to hit the winning runs off the second in front of a crowd of more than 15,000.
His sixth-wicket partnership with Anton Devcich (36) turned the match decisively in New Zealand's favour after they had stuttered to 118-6.
Earlier, Craig Smith took 4-43 for the Kiwis while Bangladesh opener Nafis Iqbal hit 67
