Write to Cricinfo for AKRAM KHAN
I did my part.
To
Management
Cricinfo Home Page.
A Test Cricketer has officially retired. And the only thing that Cricinfo
does is posts a news about it under "News Index"! A Test Cricketer deserves
more than this from Cricinfo. It does not matter whether the Test player is
from the best test playing nation or the worst.
Akram Khan, now a former Test cricketer of Bangladesh deserves much better.
He is the man for whom Bangladesh is playing test cricket now. He is the man
for whom Bangladesh played its maiden world cup in 1999.
Cricinfo is a well-reputed cricket website. It should at least have a news
of Akram Khan retiring on its main page, if not a picture.
Thank You,
F Waliullah.

fwullah, there is something wrong in your post.
Quote:
He is the man for whom Bangladesh played its maiden world cup in 1999.
|
The correct post should have been
================================================== ==========
He is the man due to which Bangladesh played its maiden world cup in 1999
================================================== ==========
Akram Khan led us to the win in the 1997 ICC Trphy due to which we got a chance to play in the 1999 World Cup.

When I wrote those particular lines, I meant of Akram Khan's heroic innings of unbeaten 68 off 92 balls against Holland in the quarterfinal round.
If Akram Khan had not played that innings on that day, then Bangladesh would have been out of the 1997 ICC trophy. And the dreams of playing in the world cup would have been delayed at least 4 years.
Shahid, if you had not gone to the Bangladeshi newspapers on what they said on Akram Khan, then know this from what I am telling you now - Bangladesh were 4 wickets down while chasing Holland's 150 odd total. Which, after rain, was also increased with the least number of overs to chase - probably at a run rate of over 6 after rain came (the target was set using Duckworth/Lewis method). And Akram Khan and probably Minhazul Abedin were at the crease batting. Then after Minhazul Abedin's out, Saiful Islam came in and scored 18 off 20 balls. And then Saiful Islam got out and another player came in. In all this time, Akram Khan stood tall and glued himself to one end as well as scoring runs at will when required.
It was that close - from our playing and not playing in the World Cup 1999.

Shubho man, give it a break. Couldn't help but laugh though.
Actually Shahid, there isn't much wrong with Fahmida's sentence although she could have put it better. However, your suggested sentence is grammatically incorrect. Also, as Fahmida has clarified, she was referring to Akram's innings against Holland which was instrumental in Bangladesh qualifying for WC '99.

I know about that Holland match in the 1997 ICC Trophy. Holland were one of the favourites to win it but we won it due to Akram Khan. I saw about that Holland match on Daily Star and Cricinfo.
I wanted to tell Fehmida that there was something wrong with his sentence, BD didn't play in 1999 for him but due to his innings against the dutch, BD played. I said to him to replace "for whom" by "due to which". I appreciate was he has done for our cricket.
