I am probably the only odd man out but I found it textbook, almost an encyclopedia entry and very cut and dried. I am not saying all articles should be full off juice and fluffy but what's the point of writing if a Turing machine can manufacture a piece given initial seeds?

Razi's Ashraful pic on the other hand really made my day. I'd much rather read a "human" piece than an arbitrary permutation of some given formal strings on a refrigerator.

And no, I am not hating on you.

Correct.

What good is it without nuggets like "arbitrary permutation of some given formal strings on a refrigerator" eh?

Nice read Isam.
Great to see you making your way to cricinfo.
Keep up the good work.

May be the year end stats could be added.
Sakib became the top wicket taker of the year, I guess that should be mentioned.
Tamim's test batting average for the year.
3 of the top 5 ODI wicket takers are Bangladeshis.
Razzak's hattrick ( you wrote the article before, I know).

I feel like those achievements should be mentioned.

If I'm not wrong, Mr. Isam is a reporter. Their motto is to state the facts as cleanly as possible, draw no conclusion, spread no speculation.
From that perspective, this report/ review quickly tells us everything that happened this year in Bangladesh Cricket.

If you want a juicier one, I'd suggest you yourself produce it. There are few more suitable for the job than you. Besides, it's been a while since you did any writing. If you wrote a fluff piece on 2010 in BD cricket, I'm sure there are many interested.

Nice article. I don't think it was intended to be juicy. That might be coming. Right?

I expressed my opinion that's all. I can do well without your or anyone forcing me to like it.

And as for Ashfaq -who has elevated the author to "Mister" out of great devotion -albeit 'cultural' he'd justify--pointing out that a journalist's main objective should be to deliver facts straight and simple, well in that case, why not do away with the namesake of the author under the article heading and just write "staff reporter"? I mean after all we are only interested to hear the facts and not someone who comes hear posts some thread for self-promotion without partaking in any discussion.

Well excuse me if I sound like the bad guy here.

Zee, your opinion being different than others doesn't make you a bad or good guy. If opinions didn't vary, we'd still be worshiping a flat earth around which the sun revolves.

I'm not justifying the authors creation, I'm just telling you why I think he wrote it that way.

The point I'm trying to make is that there are many way of looking at something. Some of them you won't like. So why don't you offer your own POV ?

I don't think Mr. Isam is a paid reporter of cricinfo. So staff reporter doesn't apply.

Ashfaq and Zeeshan

I should have responded earlier, but was too busy at the office. Year ending days, really crazy.

Anyways, it is definitely not an act of self-promotion and why I put my article here is to see the broader perspective. Honestly, and I say it from 10 years of mostly playing cricket in Bangladesh and also the reporting bit, nowhere else do people talk, discuss and care so much about Bangladesh cricket. This is a great place to get the pulse of the fans, and trust me, it is not the Bangladesh Cricket Board!

About the piece, there is a format I have to follow (given by those guys) and I thought it'd be best to go right to the point. Yes, I agree that a reporter's duty is to state the facts but I like to veer away from it at most times, just to make sure my articles is easy to read and makes sense.

A few days from now the Daily Star's year-ending specials will come out (one of the main newspaper and the editorial section) and there I wrote a piece on the three stars of this year. Do read it and let me know what you think of it. I hope it will please both you guys.
