Nasir Hossain: Our next Mr. Dependable
We all will agree, that emergence of Shakib and Tamim mainly brought us some respect in international arena, before them, we had none, and i believe, because of their world class performances, we surely came up the ranks, and on the verge of breaking into the elites. Especially, Shakib. Whatever people might say, ofocurse, although it was a team effort, we cant deny the pivotal role he's played in Bangladesh's rise thru the rankings...in recent memory, i have yet to see a player that has had such a tremendous impact on a team....
i am sure now, there are some players waiting in the ring that is gonna take us a step further.....who do u think they, or will be?
My eyes are on Nasir Hossain, he's gonna be a lot like our Mike Hussey i believe, been following his performances, a lot like Shak in his earlier days, or dare i say, better...
badly want him in the team......pretty much sure.....he alone will have a better impact on our team than some 3 other deadwoods combined we had previously...what do ya think

Not yet. But he is better batsmen than what the batting line up suggest. coming down at number 8 today.
He will make a solid middle order batsmen for Bangladesh(better than Rock)

So since you call this "next", who was the dependable before him?

He should be in the 15 man ODI squad against Zim....it was 14 man squad against Aus so keep it same and just add Nasir and give him couple of chances after winning the series.

As usual, we're judging too quickly. I expect Nasir to be a decent player and I hope he doesn't wither away if thrown in the international scene.
But let's not put too much significance on his (not very impressive) records. One or even several good innings makes not one the next coming of Mike Hussey. May be we ought to be m,ore circumspect in drawing comparison next time.

A genuine finisher unlike Riyad and Naeem. Will eventually (pretty soon) slot in at number 7 for us. His tidy offspin will also add some much needed dimension to our bowling attack. Top fielder as well.

Coming at number 8. I have seen him play. MMW dilscoop he is good. Only thing I would say, he should be known as "batsmen who can bowl off-spin" not the other way round. At the moment team has been playing him as lower middle order batsmen which is a waste. He is also a very good fielder.

But who would you drop from the middle-order to accomodate Nasir? IMO our middle-order is fine with Riyad solving the number 4 dilemma. Nasir would be perfect at number 7/8. Especially since that's where he has been playing unlike Riyad and Naeem who in domestics batted at 4/5 but were forced to bat lower down when they joined the national team.

@ Equinox If you are looking for hard hitting number 7 batsmen then you are looking at a wrong player in my opinion. Shabbir Rahman Roman is who you need for that slot.

Age, 19... only played total of 40 odd list A and FC matches...
One or two (three, four, five or even 10) decent innings doesn't mean anything. International lvl is a whole new ball game. You know it, I know it. We should ALL know it by now. We've destroyed enough young talents already. But I am afraid we the fans haven't learned anything yet. But thanks to JS and the ex selectors, we have seen a lot less of it.

Surely he is in the pipeline but he is not ready yet. Let the under 23 batch play for another 2-3 years, let them prove who's got balls to stand still before they get into the National team.

I do not recall the exact year, but bone tests to verify age of participants became mandatory for ALL ICC sanctioned age-group events. I believe this was around 2005+/-. At the very least, the implication of this is that for any current cricketer who have played in ICC sanctioned age-group events, their age is what they purport to be. The olden era of age manipulation in birth certificates is no longer an issue. The birther movement needs to go away.
One note, the bone-marrow test shows whether someone's growth is in accordance to what would be expected for age, and does not necessarily prove how old they are.
In 2007, the BCB undertook a country wide initiative for medical tests medical tests to determine the age of U-14, U-16 and U-18 cricketer. Not sure if this completed and what happened subsequently,

I totally agree. Coming down at 8 and scores 66 of 60 balls shows some real character. Wish him all the best.

Give him some more time to play in the lower level. Although i think we really need a player for the no 7 slot and essentially we should look for a new face cuz all these old guns have been tested and except tamim, i really dont see it in anyone who can quickfire from the word go.

And how accurate is this bone test.

I think the age of the players nowadays are less of a question. Remember how Shafiul was denied a place in the U19 camp when the coaches thought he was too old? Also, most of the guys who came through the age group has played in U13,U15, U17, U19 etc, so it's very hard to fake your age. I for one would like to believe the age shown on their profile.
And about Nasir Hossain, I was mightily impressed yesterday, the way he came in when the team was struggling and batted with ease was impressive. But I have said this earlier, don't bring a player into the national team unless he has had 4-5 years of FC experience. Too much pressure of the feeble shoulders, and the shoulders might collapse.

Bolded above.
Precision is 90% for +/- 1 year.
