Yesterday, a young man named Elias Sunny, from Chittagong, hit the news headlines with his brilliant exhibition of spin bowlingas he made the West Indian batsmen toil hard with skill, art and accuracy. For a Bangladeshi cricketer to make his debut at the age of 25 is quite unusual but this young man has made hisTest debut after spending a hard time in the domestic arena for seven years. Most of the cricketers in Bangladesh make their debut without any domestic exposure and for which they just get lost in the long run. But from the word go Sunny has proved that he is well prepared to handle any sort of pressures, as for a split second none could realize that this young man is playing his first Test match. His body language had the professionalismand toughness to challenge the biggest challenger in the world of cricket. And the reward of this attitude has been seven wickets in the match in all with a six wicket haul in the first innings. The Chittagong track offered sharp turn and even being a debutant,Sunny was quick to exploit the conditions with extreme merit. He is slower than his team-mate Shakib Al Hasan and gives the ball a lot more air, and was threatening when he came round the wicket, angling the ball in and getting it to spit away from a good length. His courage to give the ball flightis praise worthy and his temperament in his first appearance has been like a genuine professional cricketer. Never for a split second you would notice a touch of rawnessand fear of playing the first Test match, but with each spell, with each over and with each ball, Sunny came out to cast a magical spell with his spin bowlingover the Caribbean batsmen. The reason of this professional attitude has been the reward ofwatching the ups and downs in the domestic cricket where Sunny has spent almost nine years. It was in that domestic cricket, Elias Sunny, the smiling and charming Chittagong lad, haslearned to be tough. He has learned not to get frustrated with failures, he has learned to maintain the confidence every time, and he has learned to be positive. And for which beneath the charming smile there lays a sea of confidence, there lays an iron-made mentality which always wants to hit the jackpot. Players like Sunny prove again the importance of giving the best in domestic cricket and not get frustrated. In Bangladesh, where there are names like Shakib, Razzak and Shuvo then it’s quite tough to get a call in the national squad. But patience and hard work has its rewards. At last the selectors responded to Sunny’s enduring hard work and patience in the form of consistent performance in the domestic circuit. Elias Sunny has arrived in Bangladesh cricket. But to keep him going we too have some duties. In 2005, in the two Test series against Zimbabwe, a young Bangladeshi spinner named Enamul Haque junior emerged in the scene with a bang by grabbing 18 wickets in the seriesand was being regarded as the perfect replacement of the ace Bangladeshi spin legend Mohammad Rafique. After his unique feat the newspapers, thecricket critics of the country started uninterrupted praises which simply led to the downfall of the young man who was simply undone by the enormous pressure of expectations. EnamulHaque is almost a history nowadays. The media already has started to over praise Sunny. Yes, what Sunny has achieved deserves hurrah but that too should be within a limitation as it shouldn’t put extra pressure of expectations on a young cricketer to get crumbled. Even though, I believe that Sunny is mature enough to handle such pressures but still there should be certain amount of control in praising as, when, we Bangladeshis start praising our men we tend to make them sit high in the sky but it takes a second to drag them down from the sky to the ground after a failure. Elias Sunny is an asset and it’s the duty of the board, the media, the journalists and the Tiger fans to back such a gem every time, even in his hard times. According to the DS, there's nothing wrong with Sunny physiologically. Apparently he is emotionally distraught over property related family issues. If the DS report turns out to be accurate, then it's a freaking shame for someone who's anything but a sissy with the ball.
Sunny's willingness to toss it up and go for wickets is admirable. Especially in light of the way many BC experts tend to conflate ODI style, flat and rifled, "containment" bowling with test bowling requiring 20 wickets to win a match. With Mushfique's defensive field setting, questionable bowler management and lapses in correctly assessing and responding to match situations - all observed during day 1 of Test 2 - someone like Sunny would've been immensely useful. I hope Mushfique continues to rely on Shakib (should never have been stripped of the captaincy, as great as Mushfique is doing with the bat) and uses Rubel and Nasir more than a totally useless Shahadat and semi-useless Shubho, that good delivery notwithstanding. Nasir needs the freedom to toss it up and vary his length. If he already has that freedom but is choosing to play it safe, he needs to be motivated into going for wickets on account of his merit, and not unforced batting error. Shakib needs to set the example here. None of this is easy on this crappy wicket.

ক্রীড়া প্রতিবেদক আগের দিন যিনি নেটে দিব্যি বোলিং করে গেলেন, সন্ধ্যার পর টিম মিটিংয়েও ছিলেন, হঠাৎ কী এমন হলো যে, একাদশের বাইরেই চলে গেলেন চট্টগ্রাম টেস্টের নায়ক ইলিয়াস সানি। 'পেটের পীড়ায় শরীর ভালো নেই এই স্পিনারের।' টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টের পক্ষ থেকে হঠাৎ দেওয়া এ যুক্তি শুরু থেকেই ছিল বড্ড নড়বড়ে। সে কারণেই অনুসন্ধানে বেরিয়ে এলো সানির অন্তর্ধানের নেপথ্যের কারণ। পেটের পীড়া নয়, বৃহস্পতিবার রাতে পারিবারিক বিবাদে জড়িয়ে মানসিকভাবে ভেঙে পড়েন সানি, শুক্রবারও আরেক দফা হোটেল থেকে বাড়িতে গিয়ে ভুল করেন তিনি। শনিবার সকালে দেখা বিধ্বস্ত সানিকে তাই আর শেষ মুহূর্তে ঢাকা টেস্টের একাদশে রাখেননি কোচ স্টুয়ার্ট ল। শুক্রবার রাতে বাড়ি থেকে একটি জরুরি ফোন আসে সানির মোবাইলে। ছেলে এখন বড় ক্রিকেটার হয়েছে, পাওনা টাকা দিয়ে দাও_ এ দাবিতে সানির এক নিকটাত্মীয় রাতে সানিদের বাড়িতে সদলবলে চড়াও হয়। ঘটনাটা এতটাই বাজে মোড় নিয়েছিল যে, সানিকে বাধ্য হয়েই হোটেল থেকে তার লালবাগের বাড়িতে ছুটে যেতে হয়। গভীর রাত পর্যন্ত সেখানেই পাওনাদারদের সঙ্গে দেনদরবার করতে হয়। এলাকার মুরবি্বদের নিয়েও সালিশি বৈঠকেও সমঝোতা হয়নি। আমার ম্যাচ আছে, আমাকে ছেড়ে দিন_ পাওনাদারদের কাছে সানির এ আর্তি কোনো প্রভাব ফেলেনি। সুত্র জানায়, এক পর্যায়ে স্থানীয় সাংসদ ডা. মোস্তাফা জালাল মহিউদ্দিনের হস্তক্ষেপে ইলিয়াস সানি টিম হোটেলে ফিরে যান। ঘটনার সত্যতা স্বীকার করে সাংসদ সমকালকে বলেন, গতকাল রাতে বিষয়টি নিয়ে একবার কথা হয়েছে। আজ (শনিবার) রাতে দু'পক্ষের বসার কথা রয়েছে। চেষ্টা করব বিষয়টি আজই সমাধান করে দিতে। সকালে দলের সঙ্গে মাঠে এলেও সানির মুখ দেখে কোচ ল' ঝুঁকি নিতে চাননি। আগের রাতে পারিবারিক ঝামেলায় জড়ানো বিধ্বস্ত সানিকে ঢাকা টেস্টের জন্য উপযুক্ত মনে হয়নি কোচের। হোটেলে ফিরে গিয়ে ফোন বন্ধ করে সানিকে বিশ্রাম নিতে বলা হয়। বাংলাদেশ ক্রিকেট বোর্ডের (বিসিবি) একটি সূত্র বিষয়টি নিশ্চিত করে জানায়, 'সানি গতকাল থেকেই মানসিকভাবে বিধ্বস্ত ছিল। চট্টগ্রাম টেস্টে অমন একটা পারফরম্যান্স করার পরও বাড়ির ঝামেলা থেকে নিজেকে মুক্ত করতে পারেননি। একসময় এমন অবস্থা হয়ে যায় যে, দেশের হয়ে খেলার চেয়ে তার পরিবারকে বাঁচানোটাই সানির কাছে বড় দায়িত্ব হয়ে দাঁড়ায়। নিরুপায় হয়ে সানিকে রাতেই বাড়িতে যেতে হয়।' বাংলাদেশ টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টের একজন সানির ওই রাতের অন্তর্ধানের রহস্য উদ্ঘাটন করেন। যদিও দলের ম্যানেজার জাহিদ রাজ্জাক মাসুম ঘটনাটি জানেন না বলে এড়িয়ে যান। 'সত্যি বলছি, এ ধরনের কোনো খবর আমার জানা নেই। তবে এটুকু বলতে পারি, রাতে সানি হোটেলে ফিরে এসেছিল।' এমন ব্যক্তিগত কারণে একজন সম্ভাবনাময় ক্রিকেটার অনুপস্থিত থাকায় বিসিবি থেকে অসুস্থতার যুক্তি দাঁড় করানো হয়। দলের ম্যানেজার জাহিদ রাজ্জাক মাসুম জানান, দুপুর থেকেই পেট খারাপ হয় সানির। অথচ বিসিবির ডাক্তার আমিন সমকালকে জানান, তিনি ফিজিওর কাছ থেকে সন্ধ্যার পর সানির পেট খারাপের খবর শোনেন। যদিও ওই রাতে সানির বাড়িতে যাওয়ার ব্যাপারটি নিশ্চিত করেন বিসিবির ক্রিকেট অপারেশন্স কমিটির চেয়ারম্যান এনায়েত হোসেন সিরাজ। 'সানি টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টের অনুমতি নিয়েই রাতে বাড়ি গিয়েছিল। সকালে সে দলের সঙ্গে মাঠেও এসেছিল। হয়তো রাতে বাড়িতে গিয়ে কিছু খেয়ে থাকতে পারে, যে কারণে অসুস্থ হতে পারে সে।' বিসিবি কর্মকর্তার 'পেটের পীড়া'র যুক্তি যদিও মেনে নেওয়া হয়, তাহলেও প্রশ্ন থাকে এমন গুরুত্বপূর্ণ টেস্টের আগে ক্রিকেটারদের কেন বাড়িতে যাওয়ার অনুমতি দেওয়া হয়? 'আগেও অনেক ক্রিকেটার বাড়িতে গেছেন। অনেক সময় জরুরি কারণ দেখিয়ে কেউ কেউ বাড়িতে যান।' যদি বাড়িতে যাওয়ার অনুমতি এত সহজেই পাওয়া যায়, তাহলে কেন সবাই মিলে সিরিজের সময় হোটেলে থাকা হয়? বিদেশে সফরে যদি সানি তার বাড়ি থেকে এমন ফোন পেতেন, তাহলে কি বাড়ি যেতে পারতেন? সানির কাছেও জানতে চাওয়া যেতে পারে, তার পরিবার হুমকির মুখে এমন ঝামেলার বিষয়টি কি বোর্ড কর্তাদের জানিয়েছিলেন? টিম ম্যানেজমেন্টের একটি সূত্র জানান, সানি তার সমস্যার কথা কর্মকর্তাদের জানিয়েছিলেন; কিন্তু ততক্ষণে অনেক দেরি হয়ে গেছে। একটা ছোট্ট পারিবারিক কারণে চট্টগ্রাম টেস্টের নায়কের ঢাকা টেস্টে না থাকাটা সত্যিই দুঃখজনক। টিম ম্যানেজমেন্ট সক্রিয় না থাকায় এমনটি হয়েছে, তা বলা যায় নিঃসন্দেহে। শুধু তাই নয়, ঘটনা ঘটে যাওয়ার পরও তা গোপন রাখার কৌশলেও ব্যর্থ তারা। পেট খারাপের মতো অজুহাত দেখিয়ে সানির অন্তর্ধান রহস্য ধামাচাপা দিতে চেয়েছিল টিম ম্যানেজমেন্ট। এমন মিথ্যাকে সত্য বানাতে দাঁড় করিয়েছিলেন নানা সব সস্তা যুক্তি। শেষ পর্যন্ত সেসবও ব্যর্থ। সত্য জানতে অপেক্ষায় থাকতে হয়নি বেশিক্ষণ।

I understand that based on the validity and truthfulness of the report, Sunny's family owes somebody money. was the situation that urgent to the extend that money was needed immediately? why couldn't they wait until the Test Series was over? It's is not like Sunny will be running away with his money, I am pretty sure he would contribute to his family cause.

acha amar akta qus ache...sunny took 7 wickets in spin friendly conditions and shuvo took 5 wickets in a dead pitch..sunny scored a 0 and shuvo scored 15 in the 1st innings..so shuvo er sathe sunny er comparison ta aktu unfair hoye jache na?
