Who should open the batting with Tamim in the up & coming test series?
An important home test series against West Indies is coming up and most of us are facing the same dilemma 'Who should partner Tamim in tests?'. Most of you guys would have selected Mominul and Naeem in your own XI but the opening batsmen is yet to be decided. Who should it be? Many people to choose from.

Many ppl to chose from? really? who are they? I only see Nazimuddin(based on his last test series) and Anamul, if BCB r so desperate.

At this stage anamul or nazimuddin imo, but we should see how they fair in the domestic matches up until the squad us to be decided.

i think we could give Nafees a go if he makes a good string of scores in the next couple of FC matches.

He can open, similar to Ashraful in the sense that he could bat anywhere in the order. Naeem could open.
The people are a list of possible contenders. Junaid/Jahurul have played test and are always going to be in the fringes of the national team.

off the top of my head nazimuddin, anamul, shamsur, SN, jahurul, junaid, SS. tell me if i'm missing anyone. but so far out of those jahurul and junaid didn't perform this round and haven't really done much to warrant selection over the last couple of years, SS got a quick fire 96 and has an ok FC record but no centuries to his name, not quite consistent enough, SN has been tried and tried again, shamsur is becoming more consistent but has never been given a chance but hasn't set the world on fire just been decent, anamul didn't perform but has been the best FC performer over the last couple of years, nazimuddin played the last test series.
i think it really comes down to nazimuddin or anamul, SN a slight chance. the others haven't shown enough over the last couple of years to be selected.

yeah pretty much spot on. Imrul should solely concentrate in odi's and Ash can do whatever he wants to

Judging by the performance of the FC opener this season, Marshall Ayub should open the innings with Tamim, even though he is a middle order player.
A double century is a double century, no matter where and against who you play.
Naeem with his current form, is a must in our test line up against WI.
I'd prefer him at 4/5, not at open.

I will go with Kyes. He is unflattering, no doubt. But one thing he is good at is letting Tamim play. In other words, they play well as pair, and usually yields better partnership.

If the best yield is what one wants, it has to be Anamul Hoque for sure. Yes, trying him out in T20Is went horribly wrong but here, we are talking about tests. And yes, although he is still too young, I believe he has it in him to do far better than anybody else in the pipeline. In other words, nobody other than him and Nazimuddin comes close to contention for the number 2 spot and Anamul Hoque will definitely surpass Nazimuddin with his performance if he gets a chance.

I will agree with Rubu bhai. Partnership is really important. Listed below is top 5 overall partnership.

Apart from the obvious choice for opening batsman, Tamim that is, I don't think anyone can match Imrul Kayes in ODI. For test I think ZS has got the edge over Imrul. Anamul is in the pipeline to be the next partner of Tamim or at least I hope to see him there.
ZS never stretches his bottom hand. I'd love him to see stretching his powerful left hand like Shakib or Tamim. It's as though his left hand is tied to his waist from elbow upward. More often than not he gets out by top edging as a result. (MHO)
He makes me cringe every time I watch him live but he's good for the longer version. He can stay at the crease for a long time unlike Imrul Kayes.
ODI - IK
Test - ZS

We didn't have problem with the opening spots as they were producing good partnerships between TI-IK. Removing him was the mistake.
But, I think we have already spoiled it and his confidence as such by removing him ... He isn't performing that well these days too. I think we should try players who are in form and playing well in the NCL. Specially the players who were earlier dropped from the national team and doing well now. At least we will have some base for selection. Otherwise we will only be trying our luck and taking chances only. That doesn't make sense.

Can we have Ash to open? Ash will be selected no matter what. So why make him bat low? He has been opening with Tamim in T20 and I think he did a fair job..Not that bad. I go for experience when test is concerned and who is more experienced than Ash?
And No Nazim please..His performance in the PAK series is once in a life time thing. It wont be repeated

Ashraful is the most experienced failure in the history of cricket.. he plays as a "batsman" and averages 20 in test cricket. Even fools like Nazimuddin is a better choice. Experience doesn't mean **** when you are only experienced in failing

I personally will be extraordinarily pissed if Ashraful gets picked for Tests or ODIs based on his failures in T20s.

Its going to be tough to pick because none of these guys distanced themselves from each other. Only SN and Shamsur ended up notching 50's. While Soumya and Anamul look like the long term solutions, they still are very young and inexperienced. I wouldn't mind having them be backups for the time being. I would go with an experienced player and that would be SN. He did hit a 97 against Pakistan in a tough situation. So to me, he seems the favorite now to open with Tamim. There is 1 more round to go so there's still time left for 1 of these guys to stamp their place out in the team.

i dont understand, why so many among us dislike nazimuddin even for the test squad?
he showed good enough technique and temperament last time he selected for the test series. even in that series he looked more reliable than Tamim . We tend to forget things so easily.
