Default Bring Imrul Back as Opener for ODIs

Imrul is the best option to open the batting with Tamim. I want him back in the ODI team. We have tried Nafees, Nazim, Junaid but Imrul has had some form of success with Tamim. Tamim/Imrul have been the best opening combo for Bd in history (im assuming). Those quick starts that Bd needed, Tamim/Imrul provided it. We need Imrul back so we can have a decent opening pair. Im pissed off at the efforts of Junaid, Nafees and Nazim. They are good for nothing players. Personally i want Anamul at #3 as well.

The list of possible opening partners for Tamim
Imrul Kayes
Shahriar Nafees
Nazimuddin
Junaid Siddique
Jahurul Islam
Anamul Haque
Mohammad Ashraful

For me Imrul wins because he has provided success before. And at #3 i want Anamul cos i dont want hacks like Nafees, Nazim, Siddique to consistently make the score 2/40. Imrul should be opener!

he is already struggling is NCL then whats to point of bringing him back and prolonged his misery. he should work hard to get back to on his high and push for his inclusion. We cant select one on his past performances.

If we need to bring back a player with a Test average of 17 who hasn't done anything at all in NCL either, then we have serious problems that we need to address.

EDIT: I missed the "for ODIs" part. But the latter part stands.

NCL is what? Its for TEST cricket. Im talking about ODIs. You dont judge a persons form on a different format. Shaun Marsh averages 27 in tests. Would you make the assumption that he shouldnt be in the ODI team since he has a poor average in tests? As a matter of fact his average in ODIs is at a healthy 36.

So your reasoning is poor.

Our NCL is like two ODIs for each side...in terms of batting....

If he is struggling to score in NCL, it's not wise to bring him. But had he been even in some decent ((Not Superb) form, I would have preferred him.

I think we might as well try Imrul again cos do you really want the following to be given another chance?

Junaid Siddique
Nazimuddin
Shahriar Nafees
Mohammad Ashraful

Selectors should bring Golla back as Tamim's opening partner to give a solid start!

I agree 110%. After many experiments I think Imrul is THE only option by process of elimination. None of the other gadhas can hang in there for long enough with Tamim to sustain some early pressure. I love his batting style and his mental attitude. He may not be in form right now but what hell the inform players played like school-boy in the test series.

Hope the selectors can finally open their eyes.

I'm not please of Imrul's form but when it comes to 50 over games, I'll use him considering his success. He almost scored a 100 against Australia and was the best batsman at the World Cup so I'd use him as a specialist in that format.

I don't support Imrul but the other options aren't so good. Almost every opener is miserably bad. We tried two openers in Test series. Moreover, they were informed batsmen but they did nothing. So we could go back to Imrul.

I am okay with Imrul as long as he plays with a pencil so that there is no chance for any khocha.

Shahriar Nafees on the other hand should play without any pencil or clothes or gloves since there is a every possible chance the ball will nick something....

Kaedge is definitely an Odi specialist.
I really want to see him make a come.back.
more importantly we.dont have better options either.
besides Tamim adjusts oil with Kaedge.

In a dilemma here. One, like BP pointed out, IK and TIK complement each other really well in the ODI's. Two, he hasn't been scoring in the NCL.

But I don't want to see the likes of SN, Nazza!, JuSi, Sir Ash open with TIK.

As of now, it looks like either Naeem or Anamul will open with Tamim unless BCB does the unimaginable and get Jahurul in the starting XI.

As I said before, Imrul is not great in terms of scoring runs, but he is probably the best in terms of letting Tamim score runs.

Translation: they have better partnership together than anyone else at opening. So, yes, I agree.

To be fair to Imrul Kayes, He was in great touch with the bat right before the BPL, but he didn't find a place in Asia cup starting XI since Nazimuddin scored a 99 against England A and the rest is history. BPL kinda forced him to bat the way he is not comfortable with and as a result he lost his form and haven't gained it back since because we haven't really touched the 50 over format since Asia Cup. His BPL form didn't help him for Asia Cup selection.

Give Anamul a run and see if he's the long term solution at opener. I know he's stated he likes to be a #3 batsman but team's needs are more important and Anamul batting at opener while Shakib or Nasir batting at #3 would make far more sense. If Anamul ends up being the real deal then we don't need to go back to Imrul.

I really don't think Nasir should bat at 3. He still lacks the technique to do so. He can come in place of Mushy but not at 3.
