I wouldnt want him in the middle order because it might upset the balance for the rest of the batsmen.

other option is to drop naeem and have marshall at #4 with mominul at #3.

Dont think Naeem deserves to be dropped at this stage.

probably not since he got that ton in the last series. that means the #3 spot should go to marshall or mominul. marshall is scoring tons of domestic runs but mominul hasn't been given a proper run in the national team yet, so who do you pick?

Thats a good question. I think since Ayub has been setting the NCL and BCL on fire so he deserves the #3 position ahead of Mominul. If Ayub does fail then next in line should definitely be Mominul.
Best #3 Options
1. Marshall Ayub
2. Mominul Haque
3. Jahurul Islam
4. Shahriar Nafees
We should persist with the first 3 names and see who settles into the #3 position the best. Plan Z should be Shahriar.

also i don't like the idea of selecting an opener for the #3 slot because there aren't any openers pushing for national selection and besides, if any opener should be batting at #3 it should be anamul since that's his preferred position and it's where he scored most of his runs in domestic cricket. also those saying middle order batsmen shouldn't be considered, well plenty of middle order batsmen face the new ball when it gets changed so those batting around 5-7 are options at #3, and #4's are also good options for #3 because often they'll basically be playing as #3 when the #3 gets out early.
kallis isn't and wasn't an opener, he was a middle order batsman but he's batted plenty at #3 and done a good job there.

i'd still put shuvagata as a #3 option ahead of jahurul and SN (especially SN), i'd even be consisdering mehrab given his current season.
something to think about with the comparison of marshall, to mominul is that mominul has international experience, he knows the quality he'll be facing whereas marshall doesn't. in saying that it's not like mominul undoubtedly secured his position as his numbers weren't there even if he did look good.

In the longer version, Anamul is #3. So, yes, we still have not found a decent batting partner for Tamim.
There is no decent opening batsman in the domestic circuits to consider either. IMO, we have middle order batsmen in the national team who are prolly much better against pacers than so called top order batsmen in domestic teams. Considering that now we have a good number of middle order batsmen competing for places in the national team, I think logical solution is to push one of them to open with Tamim. My vote goes to Nasir for a trial. He seems to have good enough techniques and reflex to be given a go.

Most of the member here are suggesting Anamul as an opener. Anamul hardly opens in FC level. In that case we will have to think him at #3.To me the most potential candidates for opening at Srilanka are:
1. Jahurul Islam
2. Imrul Kayes
3. Mysikur Rahman
Cause only this 3 has done something noticeable so far.

Suddenly we have a new option to consider- senior Iqbal (well, kinda old option), to partner with his younger brother.

As SN reaching his 50 comfortably, is he going to be re-selected for #2 in Lanka?

You kidding me? Just because he's been scoring 50s in the domestic circuit, after god knows how many years, all of a sudden he's international material? He may not even have international fitness for all we know.

This guy was a good option in his time. I dont know what happen to him, he is almost a lost case. Showing some form this year no doubt. But last time when he played for A team was just horrible . . . . . check out his scores. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engin...es/425111.html

About 2 years ago there was a tv interview of both Iqbal's together. Tamim repeatedly mentioned about some injury what was causing Nafis's prolonged bad patch. It seemed he would have been glad if they could become an opening pair at least in one series.

asi ahmed (maybe)
these are the main opening options (in no order) if anamul isn't to open.

I would put Jahurul's name up there. He hasnt had too many chances to prove anything imo.
Also Mominul is batting at #3 atm so lets see how he goes.

I think we could quite possibly gamble on Naeem to open the batting. In the test format he is selective about his shots and i think those are the qualities of an opener. He leaves bowls outside off and looks to hang in the middle. I wouldnt want this to happen considering the success Naeem has had at #4 but since we dont have good enough options for the opener slot id say we could possibly gamble on it. I would only do this for tests though because i consider Naeem to be a test specialist.

if any of the middle order bats were to be pushed into the opener slot then i agree naeem would be the one to do it with.

fair enough to put jahurul's name in there, he's the last opener in domestics who's had a lot of success but hasn't had a truly extended run in the national team. he's played a few ODIs and a couple of tests but his inclusion in the XI has always been intermittent. the reason i don't place him there is because from what i've seen i don't believe he is a long term option.
